From the owner’s gate the famous Kinder Scout can be seen and there are many picturesque walks direct from the doorstep. For those with four-legged travelling companions a dog hatch leads from the kitchen into the completely enclosed patio area, with seating and barbecue which is great for the long summer nights. You’ll find lots of useful doggy extras, and as an added bonus by prior arrangement with the owner there is even an outdoor area on site where you can let your dogs have a run around stress free. A short walk will take you into the small friendly town of Whaley Bridge where you’ll find food serving pubs, some dog friendly, cafés and restaurants. 5 minutes the other way is the famous Buxwoth Basin and pub. There is a train station in Whaley Bridge with direct services to both Manchester and Buxton. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub ¼ mile.

In the pretty village of Middleton-by-Wirksworth, close to the High Peak Trail and near to Wirksworth, Cromford, Matlock, Matlock Bath and Carsington Water, the location is second to none! There are also many fantastic walks available direct from the door for those who enjoy exploring on foot. Cromford nestles in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site and is home to the Arkwright Museum. On site there is a wonderful shopping outlet as well as the working mills showing how the textiles were produced years ago. A couple of miles away you will discover Carsington Water offering watersports and cycle hire as well as an excellent visitors centre with a restaurant and coffee shop. Heritage enthusiasts will enjoy the Ecclesbourne Valley railways in nearby Wirksworth, and the fabulous Tramway Museum in Crich along the valley. Climbers are spoilt for choice with the Gritstone Black Rocks a short walk away, and the superb limestone crags nearby to explore. Let’s not forget the amazing stately homes and gardens dotted around this beautiful area to explore, such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall to name but a few. Redmonds Retreat is a mid-terraced cottage located within the village of Chinley. The village has two fantastic pubs serving home cooked meals and there are also direct train lines into Sheffield or Manchester. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy an abundance of walking and cycling routes to explore. The cottage itself has beed finished to a very good standard and is the perfect place for a couple or two friends. There is a lovely garden area at the front with table and chairs from where you can see the river. On entering the cottage, you are greeted by the open plan living area, which the owners have cleverly designed to feel spacious. There is a well-equipped kitchen, a great size TV with access to Sky, and comfy seating that can be made into a sofa-bed if required. On the first floor is the kingsize bedroom with its en-suite shower room. Redmonds Retreat is quaint and highly desirable for walkers or people just looking for an easy countryside escape.

Also close by is the Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, which are set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the river Derwent. Matlock offers a range of shops, pubs, and restaurants as well as a whole host of other exciting attractions. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car, which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham - a great place for all the family! South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, whilst to the north lie the market town of Bakewell, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House - not to be missed! Close by Belper, situated in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site, is a town with a long and famous history dating back to the 13th century, when it was then called Beaurepaire (beautiful retreat), a name that still holds today. Now you’ll find it to be a spirited and bustling town, with attractions including the North Mill, Long Row and the River Gardens. There is a thriving local music and arts scene, and the town hosts an annual Arts festival every May as well as winter and summer food festivals and a monthly farmers’ market.

Carsington Water is also nearby which offers many water sports activities, bird watching as well as having an 8-mile loop around the reservoir which is bike friendly too.
