Located in Chideock, between Bridport and West Bay to the east and Lyme Regis to the west, this holiday home is the main part of the owners’ detached house with an adjoining self-contained annexe for the owners use. It is ideally situated for enjoying and exploring west Dorset and the famous scenic World Heritage Jurassic Coast, and has a large, enclosed, lawned garden with a patio overlooking fields and footpaths towards Seatown. Wander over the fields to the coast at Seatown and enjoy some superb scenic coastal walking up to the top of Golden Cap the highest point in the south of England. Lyme Regis offers a great day or two out, with its picturesque harbour, sandy beach and famous Cob, where you can pass the time fossil hunting, boating, fishing, swimming, walking, exploring the quaint character shops, or simply wining and dining. Inland perhaps enjoy a cream tea at the Broadwindsor Craft Centre, or travel further afield to south Somerset and visit historic Forde Abbey and Gardens. The Old Forge cottage nestles in the small ‘chocolate box’ village of Kingston in the heart of the Isle of Purbeck, on the Dorset coastline. Restored and adjoining an ancient stone pub, this traditional single-storey stone cottage (including restored forge) has outstanding views of the historic Corfe Castle and wonderful open countryside of the Purbecks from its flagged courtyard. Although the property is single-storey, there are steps between some rooms and to the bedrooms. There are two double bedrooms, one with en-suite facilities, and one with an additional single bed, and a twin bedroom. The living area has a cosy wood burner and is open to the kitchen/dining area. A family bathroom completes the picture.
Corfe Castle is a very pretty town whichh is overlooked by ancient castle ruins which are now owned by the National Trust.
Nearby is the historic riverside town of Wareham with quayside and is one of the most beautiful towns in the country. Brimming with history, you must see the ancient Saxon walls, pastel coloured houses and enjoy picturesque riverside walks.
Swanage (5 miles) offers swimming, sailing, many shops, pubs and restaurants and a steam railway, and there is easy access to walks along the Purbeck coast.
Poole is just 8 miles north east and has the largest natural harbour in Europe. It caters for most tastes with water sports, coastal and woodland walks, and a plethora of shops.
Bournemouth is a little further east with miles of beautiful sandy beaches and provides traditional seaside attractions including a pier, amusement park and rides to keep the children entertained. Award-winning beach at Studland, 9 miles away. Arne RSPB nature reserve, 6 miles.

Elizabethan House is 17th-century Grade II listed property located in Portland, situated just 500 yards from Chesil Beach and within a short walk from the National Sailing Academy.

For a greater selection of amenities and attractions, the traditional seaside town of Weymouth can be reached within a 15 minute drive. Weymouth boasts a large expanse of golden sand, complete with Punch and Judy show and donkey rides in the summer. In Weymouth you will also find an abundance of shops, restaurants and cafés to enjoy, as well as numerous attractions such as The Sea Life Park and Marine Sanctuary.

With Wimborne, Bournemouth, Salisbury, Ringwood, Fordingbridge and the New Forest all within easy access, there is something for everyone, all year round. There is a property attached which is occasionally used by the owner, and a wooded area to the back of the garden. Oakdene Lodge is located near to Moors Valley Country Park, which is great for all ages and is also dog-friendly. As well as scenic walks and excellent wildlife spotting, there are many recreational activities such as orienteering, cycle hire, angling, horse riding, GoApe Treetop Adventure, Segway and more! Avon Heath and Queens Copse are other nearby walking areas. There is a ski centre in the area as well as other activities including clay pigeon shooting, quad biking, golf and fishing. There is a lovely thatched roof pub/restaurant about a 5-minute walk away. Many holidaymakers visit The New Forest National Park where you can see the free-roaming ponies, donkeys and cattle, and enjoy off-road walking, riding and cycling. The quaint market town of Fordingbridge is close by with its famous stone bridge and fine arches, plenty of shops, pubs, a café and riverside location to enjoy. The priory town of Christchurch is also a short journey away with its beautiful harbour. Oakdene is in an ideal location for leaving the car and exploring close by attractions by foot.
Close by is a waterpark and both market towns of Wimborne and Ringwood are a short drive away, which also have a selection of shops, pubs and eateries. The coastline with its beaches at Bournemouth and Poole is within easy reach, as is the city of Salisbury with its medieval cathedral. There are many places of interest for the family to visit, including Marwell Zoological Park, New Forest Otter and Owl Wildlife Park or a day out at Beaulieu Motor Museum to name but a few places of interest nearby. Further afield, but worth the trip are Stonehenge, Monkey World and the Tank Museum near Wool and Southampton with its maritime history and West Quay shopping centre. There is much to visit further afield, in particular the unspoilt countryside of Dorset, famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast from West Bay, Bridport and on to Weymouth with its superb scenery and coastal walking. Spend a day at Lyme Regis with its harbour, renowned Cobb, beach and shops and enjoy fossil hunting, boating, swimming and fishing. There are many historic houses to visit in particular Forde Abbey and Gardens, or family attractions such as Pecorama, the quarries at Beer, or inland at the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton which is an adventure in itself. The Old Stone House, dating back to the 17th century, was originally a stone cutter’s yard, and later a police station. The kitchen is believed to be the original police cell. The property has recently been refurbished in 2022 within keeping of the original features. You can see this from the exposed beams, open fireplaces, and stonework which have been expertly renovated back to their former glory. With outstanding beaches and coastal hill top walks on the door step.
The accommodation is laid out over three floors; on entering the property directly into the living room where there is a Smart TV with airplay, open fireplace, and comfy sofas for all the family to enjoy a night around the fire, steps that take you in the dining room where there are stone steps and French doors opening on the rear garden. The well-equipped kitchen featuring a Belfast sink is adjacent to the dining room where you will find everything you need.
Upstairs on the first floor there are two kingsize bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room and utilising the space with a washing machine. The family bathroom is on this floor with a rain shower over the bath and heated towel rail. Up to the second floor you will find another large bedroom with a double and a single bed. On a clear day, there are views across Ballard down all the way to the Isle of Wight.
Outside is somewhere you will spend a lot of time, the evening sun giving you a beautiful place to sit and relax after a day exploring. There is a museum in Swanage with information on the history of the town including the Jurassic Coast, dinosaurs and the second world war; there is certainly something for all the family to be interested in. Swanage has a train station with a steam train which can take you to Corfe Castle, a beautiful town with the ruins of a 1000-year-old castle which is a National Trust site.
If you want to connect with the outdoors you can walk along the sandy beaches in Swanage or the National Trust Nature Reserve at Studlands or along the southwest coastal path on the Jurassic Coast. Perhaps a day trip to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door for spectacular scenery or visit Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve where you can also visit Durlston Castle an extraordinary Victorian building with ever changing exhibitions inside. For the thrill seekers you can book trips to go out on the water including sea fishing, diving or coasteering. A great way to explore the Purbecks is by bike, Rempstone Ride offers a 12mile, off road track suitable for all the family, Cross via pool harbour ferry, there are cycle tracks all along the coast. Bikes can be stored in the courtyard or the summer house. Hikers are spoilt for choice, Ballard and the Purbeck Hills offer some of the best walks in the country. Other nearby days out include Brownsea Island, Studland Bay, Arne Nature Reserve, Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, The Blue Pool, Dorset Adventure Park, Farmer Palmers and so much more.
