A short walk away you have the options of various beaches and towns in Sandwich, Deal, Ramsgate and Dover. The Cottage has commanding, stunning views across the English Channel. This attractive, spacious, family home for all seasons is the ideal property for a relaxing holiday with both friends or relatives.

There is a private hot tub at The Cottage, and the property offers 2 games rooms, 1 in the house with children’s toys, a library, games and 2 table football tables. There is a large, second games room in the garage next to the house which offers a number of activities including: table tennis, pool table, darts, bows and arrows, basketball (outside the garage). These games rooms also feature a kitchenette with a fridge, and seating area with a large sofa, ideal for all ages. Please note this games room is not heated.
A decked terrace runs the length of the property, an ideal spot for soaking up the sun or relax after a brisk winter walk in front of a glowing log burner in the cosy living room, overlooking the frothing waves. Four of the six bedrooms have sea views and the other two have attractive garden views.
The white chalk cliff above St Margaret’s Bay is said to be the first place the sun reaches each morning on mainland Britain! The beach is famous for being the closest point to France and is the spot where Channel swimmers begin their marathon 21 mile swim.
The village itself offers good pubs, restaurants and local shop within walking distance. The coastal path leads to the famous White Cliffs of Dover, gateway to England and now one of the UK’s protected Heritage coasts offering some of the best cliff coastal walking in the country. The lighthouse is the place where Marconi transmitted his first radio broadcast to France. Closer to France than London, bring a passport, catch a ferry from Dover and visit the French markets in Calais and Boulogne for the day.

Decorated and furnished to a good standard, all the cottages feature Wi-Fi, comfortable living accommodation and each cottage has an enclosed, private garden with patio. Saddlers Cottage and Dairy Cottage also have the additional benefit of hot tubs to enjoy all year round.
There is a vast array of walks and cycling routes around the area, guests are welcome to bring bikes and store them in the cycle storage area. Attractions in Kent include the famous city of Canterbury, boasting a stunning cathedral, dominant city walls, boutique shops, bars and restaurants. Take a ferry trip over to France from Dover to Calais, or by train from Ashford through the Channel Tunnel, and enjoy sightseeing. Dover Castle sits proudly overlooking the town and is well worth a visit. Known as the ‘Key to England’, the castle boasts 2000 years of history and includes a Roman lighthouse, Saxon church and a Norman keep. Travel up the coast to the fishing town of Deal and sample fish and chips on the promenade or enjoy a stroll at Viking Bay in Broadstairs. Beach 4 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

The normal admission charge for visitors will be waived for all guests staying here, so you can enjoy the rural beach for as long as you wish. Next door is the Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory which can be used to spot many species of birds throughout the year. The Coach House (ref UKC2772) is a large barn conversion which can accommodate up to eight guests; it features Wi-Fi, a wood burner, and a large open plan living area. The spacious enclosed garden is perfect for the summer with seating and a gas barbecue. Coachman’s Cottage (ref UKC2773) is a quaint countryside cottage, accommodating four guests this property also offers Wi-Fi and open plan living, with a small enclosed courtyard with seating and barbecue for the summer months.
Nearby attractions include three championship golf courses, and includes Royal St George’s which will be hosting The Open in 2020. Sandwich Bay boasts a beautiful beach which is within walking distance. Fishing is also available locally. The nearby quiet medieval town of Sandwich has a delightful range of local shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs. The railway station in Sandwich offers a high speed service into London, plus the opportunity to visit France from either Dover or Folkestone with the Eurostar or ferry. A stunning property, with a private hot tub, set in a secluded rural location within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Overloooking the Alkham Valley, it is located on a 50-acre working farm, with horses, rare breed sheep and alpacas. It adjoins the owners’ home at one side of the livery yard. Steps lead from the terrace and hot tub down to a paddock, which is backed by woodland and is an ideal place for enjoying a picnic. In the cooler weather or in the evenings, you can light the wood burner, settle down in front of the huge cinema screen and open the popcorn! Enjoy sitting on the balcony with sea glimpses accessible from one of the bedrooms.

Walks are available from the doorstep, or you can gather your buckets and spades and head to Folkestone, 3 miles, where you will find the aptly named Sunny Sands Beach by the harbour wall, and where you can treat yourself to fish and chips. For animal lovers, Port Lympne Zoo and Howletts Zoo make great days out, whilst Canterbury is a ½-hour drive. Visit the magnificent cathedral there, or take a boat or punt out on the River Stour. The bargain hunter is also well catered for at McArthur Glen designer outlet at Ashford and the De Bradlei Wharf in Dover. Within a 5-minute walk you can reach St Dunstan’s Street which has a plethora of restaurants, pubs, bakeries, wine and gin bars, the Westgate Gardens (where you can hop on a punting trip) leads to Toddlers Cove, which is a fantastic children’s play area. There is also a cycle path that takes you through beautiful countryside that follows the river Stour. Transport links are very convenient, a bus route a few minutes walk away takes you to the popular seaside town of Whitstable. Canterbury West Train Station, ten minutes away on foot takes you to London in 45 minutes. You may also wish to hop on the train to the next village of Sturry (a 4-minute ride) where you will be able to amble through Britain’s smallest town of Fordwich. The house lends itself to families, couples, friends, ramblers, dog walkers, cyclists or shoppers! Canterbury has so much to offer from the world-famous cathedral steeped in fascinating historical references, city walls and other beautiful architecture, to the busy city centre shopping precinct set across a variety of cobbled streets and modern newly built outlets to peruse including the city’s very first roof top restaurant. For dining out, you can pretty much find every type of food from across the world and a large selection of boutique shops, which can be found on the street running parallel to the high street. There is also a large choice of traditional pubs dating back hundreds of years, bars and cafés too. Guest feedback is that the property is a ’home from home, where they instantly feel relaxed, is in an excellent location and provides a very central base for exploring the wider surrounding areas of Dover, Sandwich, Whitstable and Folkstone.
The property was decorated throughout in 2022 and is equipped with everything you could imagine making for a perfect holiday. The south west facing garden is a very good size, patio furniture, and a shady area to enjoy your morning coffee is provided along with barbecue, a few garden toys and fire pit. The owner has thoughtfully provided a baby/toddler bath and a rubber shower hose that can be run off the kitchen tap. Two dogs are also welcome, treats, leads, water/food bowls are provided for each dog along with print outs of local recommended walks.
