Brands Hatch offers bike or car racing, or experience the circuit yourself on a track day. Pubs, restaurants and leisure facilities, including swimming pools and golf, are all available locally. Sandwich Bay boasts a beautiful beach which is within walking distance. Fishing is also available locally. The nearby quiet medieval town of Sandwich has a delightful range of local shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs. The railway station in Sandwich offers a high speed service into London, plus the opportunity to visit France from either Dover or Folkestone with the Eurostar or ferry. Built in the 1880s The Old Guesthouse has been in the same family for 75 years. Previously a traditional Margate guesthouse, it is ideally proportioned for a comfortable and stylish holiday experience, accommodating eight people comfortably with an extra two in the lovely loft room. Having closed as a guest house in the late 1980s, the house has been lavishly restored and renovated and now welcomes guests again for the first time in 2021. From 1945 until 1988, literally thousands of people used the house as the base for their family seaside holiday and the family are thrilled to be able to offer the house again as a perfect holiday retreat.
Ideally located for all that Margate has to offer, the famous Golden Mile beach is a stone’s throw away. The old town, with its array of shops, cafés, restaurants and the Turner Contemprory is a 10 minute walk along the iconic sea front. Dreamland, England’s oldest amusement park is a five minute walk and the local shops at Westbrook are literally just around the corner!
Guests will find a welcome pack, including the all important pods for the coffee machine, a bottle of wine and other local treats.

The living/dining room features a double sided wood burner, creating the perfect ambience for cosy evenings in, whether you are sitting at the dining table planning the week’s activities with a glass of wine or relaxing on the beautiful sofas that bring a vibrant pop of colour against the rustic wooden walls. The countryside kitchen boasts hand built wooden units, original barn flooring and chunky wooden worktops, with a butchers block island ideal for socialising whilst a hearty meal is being prepared. Here, Bi-folding doors lead out to the undercover gazebo and then out to the garden.
After a day of exploring the countryside, what better way to unwind than in the stunning freestanding bath, or warming walk-in rain shower. Split over two floors are 3 individually styled bedrooms, ideal for couples or extended families holidaying together. On the ground floor, is a peaceful double bedroom, with rustic beamed walls complimented with a splash of deep green paint and sumptuous padded headboard. Upstairs, the further bedrooms are each accessed by their own separate staircase from the living area. Behind wooden shutter doors sits a navy padded double bed; lit with industrial, hanging bedside lights, whilst on the other side of the living area steps lead up to a quirky family suite. Here, two single pods and a double bed sitting above on a mezzanine level, accessed from the rear via open-tread steps. There is also a games area in this room, complete with PlayStation 4.
Come summer or winter, the covered and spacious outside courtyard features a Kadai firepit, the ideal spot for a warming glass of red/hot chocolate, cooking a BBQ or even a curry for an all year round al fresco dining experience. An additional charcoal barbecue is also available for further relaxation in the sunshine during the summer. For those competitive members of the family, the table tennis will be sure to provide hours of entertainment. This is the perfect place for a special party, and although the property only sleeps 8, the owner is happy to welcome extra guests during the day to celebrate with those who are staying.
Nestled in a picturesque spot in the Kent countryside, the historic market town of Faversham can be reached in 15-minutes by car and offers creekside walks and an array of independent shops and restaurants. The Old Shire Barn is set amongst rolling farmland and countryside, surrounded by apple, pear and cherry orchards. This lovely and homely four-bedroom family home is located on the outskirts of Canterbury city centre in the popular area of St Dunstan’s with a picturesque open green opposite. The property is in an ideal position with something for everyone. Within a 5-minute walk you can reach St Dunstan’s Street which has a plethora of restaurants, pubs, bakeries, wine and gin bars, the Westgate Gardens (where you can hop on a punting trip) leads to Toddlers Cove, which is a fantastic children’s play area. There is also a cycle path that takes you through beautiful countryside that follows the river Stour. Transport links are very convenient, a bus route a few minutes walk away takes you to the popular seaside town of Whitstable. Canterbury West Train Station, ten minutes away on foot takes you to London in 45 minutes. You may also wish to hop on the train to the next village of Sturry (a 4-minute ride) where you will be able to amble through Britain’s smallest town of Fordwich. You can go for stunning walks, take part in organised paddle boarding, canoeing or refresh yourself at the pub. You may also wish to treat yourself to a two Michelin star meal at the Fordwich Arms.
The house lends itself to families, couples, friends, ramblers, dog walkers, cyclists or shoppers! Canterbury has so much to offer from the world-famous cathedral steeped in fascinating historical references, city walls and other beautiful architecture, to the busy city centre shopping precinct set across a variety of cobbled streets and modern newly built outlets to peruse including the city’s very first roof top restaurant. For dining out, you can pretty much find every type of food from across the world and a large selection of boutique shops, which can be found on the street running parallel to the high street. There is also a large choice of traditional pubs dating back hundreds of years, bars and cafés too. Guest feedback is that the property is a ’home from home, where they instantly feel relaxed, is in an excellent location and provides a very central base for exploring the wider surrounding areas of Dover, Sandwich, Whitstable and Folkstone.
The property was decorated throughout in 2022 and is equipped with everything you could imagine making for a perfect holiday. The south west facing garden is a very good size, patio furniture, and a shady area to enjoy your morning coffee is provided along with barbecue, a few garden toys and fire pit. The owner has thoughtfully provided a baby/toddler bath and a rubber shower hose that can be run off the kitchen tap. Two dogs are also welcome, treats, leads, water/food bowls are provided for each dog along with print outs of local recommended walks.
