Carr House farmhouse is set on a working farm, but only minutes away from the attractions of Scarborough and only 1½ miles from the well known surfing beach at Cayton Bay, which also welcomes dog walkers throughout the year. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the large landscaped gardens with a summerhouse, apple trees and barbecue, with a perimeter fence making it ideal for both children and pets. This detached farmhouse is ideal for touring the North Yorkshire coast, from Whitby in the north to Bridlington in the south. A short journey inland takes you to the North York Moors, ’Heartbeat’ Country and Pickering for the steam railway, whilst York for its historic attractions is less than an hour away.

For activities nearby there is Dalby Forest for cycling and tree climbing, Wykeham Lakes for fishing, or the many beaches which offer the chance to just relax, sail, surf, sunbathe, paddle, and build sandcastles. Scarborough is a vibrant seaside resort with lots of family attractions, such as the waterpark, Sealife Centre and crazy golf, as well as a funfair, ice-cream parlours, amusements, and donkey rides. It also boasts superb live entertainment at the Open Air Theatre, with major acts booked each summer, and shows at the Scarborough Spa and the renowned Stephen Joseph Theatre. Beach 2 miles. Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. You can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train here and take a memorable journey through the glorious Esk Valley as it steams its way across the valleys into the historic market town of Pickering. The ancient sea port of Whitby is just a short drive over the moors, eight miles, a colourful harbour leads to the three mile stretch of sandy beach overlooked and almost protected by the ancient abbey ruins and St Mary’s church. The brave (and fit) can take the 199 steps up to the abbey ruins where panoramic views over Whitby across to Sandsend can be enjoyed. Explore the smugglers coves of Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes or visit the more elegant seaside resort of Scarborough, Britain’s first ever seaside resort. Paddock House is a beautiful detached, stone-built bungalow situated in Middleham, Wensleydale, nestled away peacefully just behind Middleham village square. The property feels warm and welcoming no matter what the weather. There’s ample private parking at the property with a double garage that can be used for storage. It is an excellent property which is exceptionally large and offers plenty of space for all family members. There are two living rooms and the bedrooms offer a great combination for sleeping arrangements with a super kingsize, two zip and link super kingsize beds that can be made up as singles on request, and a double sofa bed. Hairdryers are available. There is a double vanity unit in bedroom 1’s en-suite bathroom, and a single vanity unit in the main bathroom. The bungalow is perfect for that family or group get together. Step out of the patio doors from the living room into a beautiful landscaped garden and patio, a lovely outside place to entertain or simply take in the stunning views. Beyond the garden is an enclosed paddock, which can be used by guests to enjoy when it is not being grazed by sheep.

Middleham is renowned for its castle, formerly home to Richard III, and several race horse stables. A fabulous sight to watch as the horses are led through the village each day up onto the gallops. The Barn is ideally placed to visit the east coast of Yorkshire, with Scarborough, Whitby and Filey all just a short drive away. Scarborough is the nearest resort, with its long Marine Drive that takes you from North Bay to South Bay, passing the castle perched on the clifftop. The two bays are very contrasting, but one thing they both have in common is that they both have an excellent sandy beach. Scarborough has lots to offer, from excellent restaurants, shopping, a waterpark with a large wave pool and outdoor infinity pool, and of course the cricket festival.

The North York Moors National Park is also home to the Dalby Forest, with over 8,000 acres of woodland to explore and plenty of cycle and walking trails for all abilities. The Dalby Forest mountain biking track has hosted the world cup, so you will find some challenging runs there. It is also the home of the Go Ape adventure park, which is great for the children.

Within the hour you can be in the medieval city of York, with its picturesque streets and historic buildings. The city is voted every year as being one of the top 10 cities to visit. There are street entertainers, independent shops and cafes to enjoy, as well as museums and theatres. History buffs are often drawn to the former Cistercian monastery of Jervaulx Abbey, which was founded in 1156 and is now open to visitors all year round with an on-site tea room and a wide range of events. Middleham should also be high on the agenda – this famous horse racing town was once home to Richard III and Middleham Castle is steeped in history. Spend a day at the horse racing links and watch world class racehorses gallop down the track.

Guests will find an abundance of top quality local pubs and restaurants offering fresh local produce in the area. Visitors of all ages will love The Forbidden Corner which is just a few miles away, a folly-turned family attraction that has surprises waiting around every corner.
