At Lady Edith’s Holiday Park, you have a welcoming family friendly bar next to a play area, making this fun for everyone. You can also purchase a fishing permit for the local mere, or explore the nearby woodland. In Scarborough there are two bays. North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts with the Sea Life Centre at the far end. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. At the south bay you have all the fun of a traditional seaside holiday with arcades as well as many cafés, restaurants, bars and shops to visit. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches. There is also Scarborough Castle which stands on the cliff top between the two bays, as well as the casino and the funfair on the seafront.
Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover. This charming newly renovated ex miners’ cottage is situated just a stone’s throw from the amazing understated Cattersty sands in Skinningrove, a friendly village offering a range of amenities including a shop and licensed cafe. It has a proud industrial heritage and is home to the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum as well as the famous Skinningrove annual Guy Fawkes celebration.
Located just a 10-minute drive from Saltburn, less than half an hour from Whitby and on the edge of the North Yorks Moors the area is a paradise for sightseeing, as well as dogs and walkers, indeed one is spoiled for choice as to how to spend your time. The cottage is mid terrace in an elevated position overlooking the village with on street parking to the front. Furnished to a high standard it boasts a range of amenities to make your stay extra special. It has a fully equipped open plan kitchen diner with a stone floor complemented by a log burner, perfect for cosy nights in perhaps playing board games around the spacious rustic dining table. Upstairs the master bedroom has a sumptuous king-sized bed with storage drawers, hanging space and mirror. The second bedroom contains chunky bunk beds suitable for adults as well as children and the cosy third has a single bed plus bedside table. The fully tiled family bathroom has a twin head shower over the bath as well as toilet and basin. There is an enclosed yard to the rear of the property with table and chairs for alfresco dining and a tap perfect for hosing down mucky boots and paws after a day well spent exploring the beautiful surroundings.
The village of Skinningrove is undiscovered by most tourists and is peaceful all year round. It is a quaint little bay, with neighbouring Cattersty Sands just a short walk away. This is a perfect choice for those looking for a tranquil beach holiday away from the crowds. Your dog is welcome to join you and will be in heaven with the fabulous walks you can enjoy together. Renovated to an exceptionally high standard in 2021, the cottage has some wonderful original features, in keeping with a barn conversion, including beamed ceilings throughout.

Stepping inside through the stable door you are greeted by a spacious open plan living space, with an authentic country feel throughout. The kitchen is well equipped, ideal for rustling up your favourite meals, perhaps using some of the fresh local ingredients which are grown on-site. There is comfortable seating on the sofas around the wood burner, where you can unwind and relax. Glass doors lead you out into the enclosed private garden, with a table and chairs as well as a barbecue, so that you can make the most of the sunshine. The garden leads down to the neighbouring woodland, attracting wildlife literally onto your doorstep. Back inside, you have a dining room adjoining the kitchen, as well as a ground floor wet room. The beautiful North York Moors are a delight to explore either on foot or by car, or alternatively, the steam railway runs along stunning scenery through many unspoilt villages including Goathland (Aidensfield in the television series ’Heartbeat’). The coast is easily accessible, 45 minutes away, and the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are delights not to be missed. The quaint cobbled streets of Robin Hood’s Bay, once a favourite haunt with smugglers, will keep children and adults entertained for hours with its shoreline full of strange and colourful pebbles. Castle Howard is within easy driving distance, and Flamingo Land (a popular theme park and zoo) is well worth the visit. The market town of Helmsley is just 6 miles away and has shops and inns as well as pretty walled gardens.

Many National Trust and English Heritage properties can be found within a 15-mile radius, including Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and Duncomb Park, to name but a few. The ancient city of York is but a 45-minute drive. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep. The cottage combine country living, yet is close enough to the coast to keep any visitor happy, whatever type of holiday they may be looking for. Located only 200 yards from the beach, you are just a stroll along the seafront from all the bars, restaurants and amenities that this bustling town has to offer. Inside this delightful house you have the living room at the front with a separate open plan kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is modern and perfect for guests who love to create fresh home cooked meals to enjoy together. There are glass doors leading out from the dining area into your enclosed garden, which has a table and chairs ready for sunny evenings of al fresco dining. Plus there is storage for bikes, surf boards and other outdoor equipment. The garden looks out onto a green open space which leads you down towards the beach. Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. The climb is worth the effort just to take in the fantastic views of the town and out to sea. Many events and festivals take place all year round such as the Goth Weekender, Folk Week, Whitby Regatta, Steampunk festivals and many music events. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and arcades to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down.

If you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay.

Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer. The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Malton. The walled city of York is just an hour’s drive away.
