History buffs are often drawn to the former Cistercian monastery of Jervaulx Abbey, which was founded in 1156 and is now open to visitors all year round with an on-site tea room and a wide range of events. Middleham should also be high on the agenda – this famous horse racing town was once home to Richard III and Middleham Castle is steeped in history. Spend a day at the horse racing links and watch world class racehorses gallop down the track.

    Guests will find an abundance of top quality local pubs and restaurants offering fresh local produce in the area. Visitors of all ages will love The Forbidden Corner which is just a few miles away, a folly-turned family attraction that has surprises waiting around every corner. The popular market town of Leyburn is only 4 miles away, with its weekly farmers’ market, along with a variety of quaint shops, tea rooms and restaurants for an evening out. The two bays are very contrasting, but one thing they both have in common is that they both have an excellent sandy beach. Scarborough has lots to offer, from excellent restaurants, shopping, a waterpark with a large wave pool and outdoor infinity pool, and of course the cricket festival.

    The North York Moors National Park is also home to the Dalby Forest, with over 8,000 acres of woodland to explore and plenty of cycle and walking trails for all abilities. The Dalby Forest mountain biking track has hosted the world cup, so you will find some challenging runs there. It is also the home of the Go Ape adventure park, which is great for the children.

    Within the hour you can be in the medieval city of York, with its picturesque streets and historic buildings. The city is voted every year as being one of the top 10 cities to visit. There are street entertainers, independent shops and cafes to enjoy, as well as museums and theatres.
