This cosy detached cottage making a romantic retreat, is Grade II listed and dates back to 1760. It has been tastefully renovated to a very good standard and benefits from an underfloor heated limestone tiled floor throughout the ground floor. Outside there is a large, enclosed, riverside garden, on the opposite side of a road that leads directly into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It has a shared patio with a sitting-out area, a further riverside secluded seating area, garden furniture, BBQ and summerhouse. Although shared with the owners it is available to guests and their pets to enjoy at all times. Within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, East Ayton is a village just a few minutes’ drive from the seafront at Scarborough. The village has all the amenities you could wish for with a post office, shop, garage and local pub as well as an excellent fish restaurant. The cottage is just off the main street on the lane leading further into the National Park and towards Hackness. This property is an ideal place for the walkers or cyclists amongst you, with great trails right on your doorstep. From the large riverside orchard garden there are open views across the valley to the castle that dates back to 1390. Cycling is also very popular in the area as this forms part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The Dalby Forest is close by with cycle trails for all abilities and home to the World Cup Trail, a challenging 4 mile route, or for beginners, there are plenty more leisurely routes. The cottage is an ideal base to visit all that Yorkshire has to offer from the North Yorkshire Moors to the Wolds and the beautiful east coast, and coarse fishing is available direct onto the River Derwent at the bottom of the garden with brown trout and grayling. Easily accessible is Dalby Forest with its 9 mile scenic drive and an award-winning visitor centre. The North York Moors Steam Railway offers a step back in time and a leisurely way to enjoy the scenery. Departing from Pickering
(10 miles) it passes through Goathland and Grosmont on its way to Whitby, with its stunning coastline and ancient abbey. Eldin Hall Cottages are set in a peaceful area and have been added more recently to the restored old Victorian waterworks. The four cottages have their own enclosed decked patios with garden furniture, and The Gatehouse has its own enclosed private lawned garden. There is also a shared garden with a fantastic play area for the children. The owners, who just 10 minutes away, will be there to greet guests whenever possible, and are available any time to provide information and assistance when it is required.
Situated between Cayton and Cayton Bay, the cottages are an ideal base to visit the east coast, North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds. The beach at Cayton Bay is less than a mile away (2 miles by road) and just a little further up the coast is the popular seaside town of Scarborough. The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are just a short drive away. The walks along the clifftops are spectacular and form part of the Cleveland Way walk. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs attracts visitors from worldwide and is just a short drive from the cottages. Here you can see puffins, kittiwakes and lots of other migrating seabirds. Not to be missed during your stay (as it’s always voted as one of the top ten cities to visit) is the wonderful city of York which is less than an hour away by car, or the train is direct from Scarborough. Tucked away in the peaceful village of Middleton this little cottage dates back to the 1750’s, where it was once a tiny farmhouse with its own small allotment that they used for animals and crops. This quaint hideaway still retains many of its original charm, with beamed ceilings and lots of character. With the benefit of your own designated off-road parking bay. Please note that the drive is narrow and may not be suitable for large vehicles. A footpath follows you through the courtyard with a table for two. There is also a bike shed with suitable storage adjacent to the parking area with a seating area too.

Stepping inside you will find the adorable country kitchen, which is compact yet has everything required to create delicious home-made meals to delight your loved one. The kitchen is open plan with the dining area, with a table perfect for two. The living is separate, with a sofa and armchair around the small but mighty “hobbit” stove, that ensures you are snug and toasty after a busy day exploring. Wooden stairs lead you up from the living room to the first floor landing, where you have a beautifully presented kingsize bedroom, with a large wardrobe for all of your belongings.

This is the ideal destination for those who love the great outdoors, with incredible scenic views in the National Park to soak up. There are wonderful woodland walks through Dalby forest nearby, as well as many scenic bays along the coast only a 40 minutes’ drive away. Middleton itself is a small village just on the edge of the market town of Pickering. In Middleton you have a popular pub serving hearty meals, as well as a small tearoom and a local shop. Neighbouring Pickering has a medieval castle as well as a steam train which winds its way from Pickering over the rolling heather, through valleys and hill all the way to Whitby on the coast.

The North York Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Nearby you have Malton, the food capital of Yorkshire, with a market, award-winning restaurants, and a cookery school. Castle Howard is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, sure to fill you with awe. There are also the beaches of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, with historical Whitby and whimsical Robin Hoods Bay all ideal for a day out to treasure. Tucked away in the peaceful village of Felixkirk, this cosy, dog-friendly holiday cottage adjoins the owner’s home and provides a very comfortable rural retreat on the very edge of the North York Moors National Park, near Thirsk. This brick-built, single-storey cottage is a hidden gem offering a very private stay whilst enjoying an enviable position near to the award-winning, dog-friendly pub and is 5 minutes by car from the nearby market town of Thirsk. It has been completely renovated internally in December 2019 and externally over the summer of 2020.
The cottage offers beautifully presented accommodation for two guests and their pets. There is a small double bedroom with under-bed storage. There is extensive garden space outside the cottage with stunning views, which is also fully fenced to allow your pets to wander in a contained area. Access to a larger field is also provided. Car parking for two cars is available next to the cottage, which is at the end of a private tarmac and gravelled driveway. There is also separate secure storage available for bicycles.
The owners are keen walkers, runners and cyclists and can advise of lovely local and regional routes and provide local dog-friendly walk guides for your use. From the doorstep, there are numerous footpaths and cycling trails and the renowned, traditional, dog-friendly village inn serves local produce just minutes from the cottage. The village is home to a 4x4 driving centre which offers action-packed days with off-road driver training and quad biking, and at Sutton Bank, visitors can take a trial lesson at the Yorkshire Gliding Club and visit the nearby famous White Horse near Kilburn. Thirsk, 3 miles away, is a quaint market town famous for its connections with James Herriot, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Thirsk is also home to a well-known racecourse and 15th century church.
Days out can be enjoyed at Rievaulx Abbey near the wonderful town of Helmsley, as well as Castle Howard and Fountains Abbey. Board the steam train at Pickering to be transported through the stunning North York Moors to the coastal port of Whitby and explore the fishing villages at Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes. The North Yorkshire Moors and also the Yorkshire Dales are easily accessible by car and the historic walled city of York is only 25 miles away, with its iconic minster, exquisite architecture, museums and art galleries, and is not to be missed when visiting Yorkshire. The magnificent stately home of the Howard family, Castle Howard, is a short drive from the cottage and is home to ITVs ‘Victoria’ programme and of course the filming location of ‘Brideshead Revisited’. A day exploring the house and gardens will be a welcome addition to your holiday itinerary and you simply must try the cakes on offer from one of the tea rooms! The Christmas experience is also one of the very best in the country. There are also other stately homes in the surrounding area, including Duncombe Park and Nunnington Hall. Close by is Middleham, with its famous castle and horse training stables as well as West Witton, with its award-winning restaurant and onwards towards beautiful Aysgarth Falls and the bustling market town of Hawes. Driving up to Swaledale, visit Reeth and Gunnerside or further up the dale to Muker, enjoying some amazing walks and breathtaking views along the way.
