Within the North York Moors National Park, in a sheltered wooded valley close to the magnificent ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, these spacious, comfortable and well equipped holiday cottages stand in a landscaped courtyard, close to the owners’ farmhouse. Visitors can wander the 70 acres of beautifully tended grounds or relax in the shared terrace garden with its small lake and river frontage. The views over the surrounding countryside are superb, and there is excellent walking from the doorstep. Long distance footpaths along this area’s Heritage Coastline, and the Cleveland Way, offer perfect terrain for walkers and cyclists. The Ryedale Folk Museum at popular Hutton-Le-Hole, and the ruins of Rosedale Abbey are both worth a visit. For a day out, the North York Moors Railway runs steam train journeys between Grosmont and Pickering. Whitby, is easily reached, with miles of sandy beaches and an ancient abbey overlooking its harbour. Scarborough, and the coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Sandsend are all within 20 miles. Horse racing at Thirsk, Wetherby and York, 25 miles. Closer to home, Helmsley has Duncombe Park and a castle. Shop 2 miles, pub 6 miles.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

For a relaxing day out venture further into the Yorkshire Dales to the picturesque villages of Grassington, 12 miles, and Kettlewell, 5 miles further, calling at Kilnsey Trout Farm on the way and a stop off to watch the climbers hang off Kilnsey Crag. Many walks and cycle routes for all abilities can be found here and all around the area. Country pubs serving local produce are within easy reach should you wish to dine out during your stay, with the closest just 500 yards away and easily reached via a stroll through the estate grounds. Top Lodge provides a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life but will come alive when filled with your family and friends, yet is within very easy reach of the main town of Skipton and surrounding attractions, what more could you want. You are only a 10-minute stroll downhill to the harbour and the heart of the town, making this an ideal choice for guests who wish to explore the many delights of this coastal destination. At the front of the house you have a designated parking bay as well as the secure artificial lawned front garden where you can sit outside in the sunshine.
Stepping inside you are welcomed into the hallway with a spacious open plan lounge and dining room at the front of the house. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, so that you can create all your favourite meals. Upstairs on the first floor you have a kingsize bedroom as well as a twin room with zip and link beds, along with the main bathroom.
On the third floor the attic has been converted to a third bedroom with zip and link beds to allow flexibilty and a bathroom with toilet and basin. This property has been completely renovated throughout in 2023 and is finished to a high specification ensuring you have a stay to remember.
Whitby is a proud seafaring town; you can find out more at the museums or even first hand up at the abbey ruins. Walk through the whale bone archway on the West Cliff or visit the shipwreck on Saltwick Bay and look up into the cliffs to spot the smugglers’ tunnels. For those who wish to experience the wonders of this inspiring area, why not take a long, lazy walk amid the scenic beauty of the North York Moors National Park, which can be accessed by the heritage steam train winding its way through the rolling hills of heather? You can also explore quaint coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes or Runswick Bay. Take in the sights along the seafront at Filey, Scarborough or Saltburn. And if you’re a history buff, take a trip into York to soak up the culture brought by both the Romans and the Vikings. Closer to home, the town of Whitby has the long golden stretch of sandy beach, the 199 steps up to the St Mary’s Church perched on the cliff top, the boat trips and the freshly caught fish and seafood.
