    Ironstone Cottage is in a peaceful village served by a little local shop, with the rolling heather clad moors just at the end of the road. These stone terraced cottages were built for the miners back in 1860. You can visit the nearby mining museum to find out more about the history, as this area was at the heart of the steel industry back in the 1800s. The name Ironstone Cottage was chosen to honour the history of the area, the owner’s father was employed to care for the pit ponies from the age of 11. Now the biggest draw to the area is tourism as guests explore the national park and the nearby beaches. There are a host of wonderful walks and cycle trails to explore, this is the perfect base for those who enjoy nature.
    Just a short drive away you have Saltburn, Staithes and Runswick Bay leading down to the incredibly popular coastal town of Whitby, all ideal for a day of discovery. On the moors there are some stunning beauty spots such as Roseberry Topping as well as quaint rural villages with some great pubs, perfect as a reward after a day of walking.

At the back of the property you have an enclosed garden with a lawn and sitting out area, which is great for unwinding on a sunny evening, enjoying a bottle of wine. This area is very popular with cyclists as Dalby Forest can be accessed by the lane that runs to the north of the property. Dalby Forest in the past has hosted the World Cup mountain bike event, so there’s plenty of challenging runs for you to try. For those of you who enjoy a more leisurely trail, there’s miles of woodland paths for both bikers and walkers. The forest attracts international and UK visitors throughout the year, not just for the cycling, but for the many events that are held here, from concerts to educational nature visits for children.

    The owner takes great pride in providing a beautiful holiday home, and Forge Villa has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. The gardens are beautifully kept, with areas for nature to thrive, plus a colourful, wild flower meadow. Chafer Wood backs onto the grounds so you have lots of woodland walks for the dog. Access to the driveway is via a electric gate for added security, however please note parking is at own risk and the owners take no responsibility for loss or damage. There is a pub opposite so perfect for a drink after a busy day exploring the area.

    The village of Ebberston is a short drive from the east coast, with Scarborough, Filey and Whitby close by. The popular market towns that Yorkshire is famous for, such as Malton, Pickering and Helmsley, are all within a short driving distance. Pickering is the nearest town, just 10 minutes away, and is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Here you can take a wonderful ride on a steam train and travel across the Moors to Whitby. Stop off at Goathland, the fictional village of Aidensfield in the ever popular TV programme ’Heartbeat’. Pickering is also host to the very popular ’1940’s Wartime Weekend’, an event held every year that takes over the whole town and attracts visitors as far away as the USA. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover.
