Turn in either direction out of the Barn at Oak Tree farm and you’ll be spoilt for choice. With walks direct from the doorstep and wall to wall views, this is such a pretty area. Cycling is extremely popular here, being stage to the Tour de France and the annual Tour de Yorkshire.
Travel to Aysgarth to see the waterfalls or visit Hawes and its quirky shops and cafés, not forgetting to stop off at the famous Wensleydale Creamery. In the opposite direction you will pass the picturesque village of Middleham and its famous castle, enjoy the sights as the race horses’ ride to and from the gallops each day, or sit it in the village square and enjoy a coffee as you watch the world go by.
A little further and you will reach the bustling market town of Leyburn with its host of interesting shops, restaurants and cafés, all set around the market square, and of course Friday is market day and a good chance to snap up some of the gorgeous local produce. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, this lovely picture perfect village has country walks and some spectacular views over Lower Wensleydale. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are some superb walking and cycling trails available direct from the door, making this a perfect base from which to explore the pretty Dales villages. Try the circular walk from Redmire to Aysgarth taking in both the Redmire Falls and spectacular Aysgarth Falls, Castle Bolton where Mary Queen of Scots was held in the 16th century, Preston-under-Scar, the River Ure and Penhill, passing through the beautiful Dales countryside.
The village pub has now fully reopened after a complete revamp in 2023, and provides, amongst other things, a variety of local beers and delicious breakfasts, snacks and pub grub, and its only 20 yards from the back door. A fish & chip van comes on a Wednesday at 7.30pm - if you like fish & chips these are a must!
Nearby are the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants and craft workshops, where craftsmen display their skills and sell handmade products. For groceries, Leyburn is 4 miles away and has convenience stores as well as an award-winning delicatessen and winery. Fresh eggs are available in the village and newspapers can be provided at the nearby farm. All the big supermarkets regularly deliver to the village.
Historical castles and ruins are numerous with Bolton Castle almost on the doorstep, and Middleham Castle a few miles away. From Middleham square you can sit and watch the impressive sight as the race horses pass through on their way to the gallops. The Forbidden Corner is just down the road with its labyrinth of tunnels and underground caves to explore. With so much to do and see, you will certainly want to return.

Forge Villa is a beautiful property situated in the village of Ebberston, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. This area is very popular with cyclists as Dalby Forest can be accessed by the lane that runs to the north of the property. Dalby Forest in the past has hosted the World Cup mountain bike event, so there’s plenty of challenging runs for you to try. For those of you who enjoy a more leisurely trail, there’s miles of woodland paths for both bikers and walkers. The forest attracts international and UK visitors throughout the year, not just for the cycling, but for the many events that are held here, from concerts to educational nature visits for children.

The owner takes great pride in providing a beautiful holiday home, and Forge Villa has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. The gardens are beautifully kept, with areas for nature to thrive, plus a colourful, wild flower meadow. Chafer Wood backs onto the grounds so you have lots of woodland walks for the dog. Access to the driveway is via a electric gate for added security, however please note parking is at own risk and the owners take no responsibility for loss or damage. There is a pub opposite so perfect for a drink after a busy day exploring the area.

The village of Ebberston is a short drive from the east coast, with Scarborough, Filey and Whitby close by. The popular market towns that Yorkshire is famous for, such as Malton, Pickering and Helmsley, are all within a short driving distance. Pickering is the nearest town, just 10 minutes away, and is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Here you can take a wonderful ride on a steam train and travel across the Moors to Whitby. Stop off at Goathland, the fictional village of Aidensfield in the ever popular TV programme ’Heartbeat’. Pickering is also host to the very popular ’1940’s Wartime Weekend’, an event held every year that takes over the whole town and attracts visitors as far away as the USA. North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts with the Sea Life Centre at the far end. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover.
