Walking through the church doors you are met with a spacious, cleverly designed, open plan layout. The ground floor offers two seating areas, a well-equipped, modern kitchen, dining area and downstairs shower room. You will notice many of the original features have been kept in the building, from stained glass windows to plaques and beams, simply wonderful. Upstairs follows an unconventional and unique design of glass walls centring the church. There are two en-suite kingsize bedrooms and a further two double bedrooms sharing a family bathroom.
St Margaret’s Church is located just off the main high street in the village, making it an easy walk to access the shops, restaurants and pubs Bentham has to offer. There are some fabulous walks to be enjoyed straight from the front door. If, however, you plan to do some more adventurous hiking, then Ingleton is just 3 miles away and the three peaks of Whernside, Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, and the lakeland hills are all easily accessed.
There is so much to do in this area from cycling, caving, hiking and golfing! Just 10 miles away in the neighbouring town of Kirkby Lonsdale. This quirky market town is surrounded by historic buildings, many of them hundreds of years old, that line the town’s streets and squares include a range of cafés, pubs, and independent shops, which combine to provide a traditional shopping experience that’s hard to find on the modern British high street.

Located just 1 mile from Clapham, Newby Cotes is a charming village with a rich history as a Kendal-to-Skipton thoroughfare. The Old Sawmill Café, housed in a former sawmill, offers a unique historical setting. Nearby, the Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail leads to the renowned Ingleborough Cave. Cyclists frequent the Croft Café, and local shops showcase crafts and knitting. The trail also unveils Trow Gill, Gaping Gill, limestone pavements, and Ingleborough’s summit. Ingleton Waterfall trail at Ingleton is also within driving distance and Kirkby Lonsdale, a quirky market town, is just over the Cumbria border. Burton in Lonsdale nestles on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Burton has been called both ’the first and last village in Yorkshire’, tucked into the hillside above the River Greta, and at the cusp of the county boundaries of both Lancashire and Cumbria. There are a number of amenities all within walking distance, including a village shop run by the community, children’s park, and the picturesque All Saints Church.
Burton in Lonsdale is a short drive away from Ingleton, where you will find the infamous Ingleborough Cave, Ingleton Waterfall and an outdoor swimming pool. Ingleton is another beautiful Yorkshire village boasting some unique shops, bars and restaurants.
A short drive in the other direction will take you to the small, but perfectly formed, market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. The town is notably home to the 14th century Devil’s Bridge, as well as Ruskin’s View, which inspired a painting by artist JMW Turner in 1822. It is becoming increasingly popular for it’s independent shops, and you will be spoilt for choice for places to dine out. Burton in Lonsdale is perfectly placed between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks, making it a perfect base to all that the area has to offer.

Situated in the old water mill and overlooking the water wheel, this two bedroom cottage is set within a cobbled courtyard and is a 5-minute drive from the main Broughton Hall Estate and the facilities there. Mill Cottage has been updated to give a truly retro feel both in design and furnishings, with bright and comfortable interiors. Step into a spacious dining area with large table and chairs and snug areas to relax and unwind in. Double doors into the living area with a cosy wood burner, TV and writing desk. Within the estate are the Land Rover Experience offices from where experience days are offered (by direct arrangement with the owner) for an exhilarating drive along the land rover track and obstacles on the estate.
The popular market town of Skipton is 3 miles away and offers a host of things to do for all ages. The Tour de France and the Tour de Yorkshire have both passed through Skipton and the surrounding countryside in recent years. Why not bring your bike and explore some of the routes for yourself? The area is peppered with gourmet pubs serving local produce as well as hearty, traditional pub food and there is a wide variety of restaurants and bars in Skipton to choose from should you wish to treat yourself and dine out during your stay.
