Situated in the heart of the vibrant market town of Pickering, this charming cottage has been lovingly restored with great care and attention to detail. Visitors can now enjoy all modern day facilities amidst the ambience of a traditional country cottage. The beamed living room has a lovely multi-fuel burner, perfect for relaxing after day’s out walking or sightseeing. Perfect for a family holiday, the owner has provided a number of baby/toddler items, including a dining chair booster seat, highchair, travel cot, mattress and mattress protector (please bring own fitted sheet), a single child’s step, a bed guard to fit a single bed and plastic children’s cups, cutlery and tableware. A stairgate for the first floor is also available. As well as this all the bedding is synthetic and non-allergenic, allowing you to get a full night’s shut-eye without any allergy flare-ups.
On the doorstep there are numerous independent shops, street market, restaurants, pubs and cafés alongside historic attractions and museums, including the medieval castle, the stunning Saxon church with its 15th century wall paintings and Beck Isle Museum. The famous steam train departs from Pickering, transporting visitors on a scenic journey through ’Heartbeat Country’ to the ancient fishing port of Whitby. This area is excellent for both walkers and cyclists, with miles of beautiful walks through the North York Moors National Park and Dalby Forest. Family fun can be found at the Go Ape Adventure Centre and Flamingo Land and there are miles of sandy beaches along the Heritage Coast. Explore the smugglers coves at Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay and the traditional seaside resorts at Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.

If peace and tranquillity is what you are after then look no further. The Dairy is situated in Beck Hole, one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets. The semi-detached cottage has had a newly fitted kitchen in 2022 and sits within the grounds of the owner’s home just a short walk from one of the smallest pubs in the UK, known for its traditional ales and warm friendly welcome. Beck Hole is located deep in the valley with the holiday cottage overlooking the village just a short stroll from the local pub. Stunning valleys and sweeping hillside views can be enjoyed from the idyllic location of the cottage. You could almost be anywhere in the world, close your eyes and listen to the silence interrupted only by bird song. Cycle tracks, bridle paths and walkways abound from the doorstep with quaint little villages popping up when you least expect it.
It is just 1 mile from the well-known village of Goathland best known for its connections with Heartbeat, indeed Hill Farm in which The Dairy sits was used for many of the film shoots. The village green is lined with quaint curio shops, inns and tea rooms serving some of Yorkshire’s finest cuisine. You can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train here and take a memorable journey through the glorious Esk Valley as it steams its way across the valleys into the historic market town of Pickering. The ancient sea port of Whitby is just a short drive over the moors, eight miles, a colourful harbour leads to the three mile stretch of sandy beach overlooked and almost protected by the ancient abbey ruins and St Mary’s church. The brave (and fit) can take the 199 steps up to the abbey ruins where panoramic views over Whitby across to Sandsend can be enjoyed. Explore the smugglers coves of Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes or visit the more elegant seaside resort of Scarborough, Britain’s first ever seaside resort. It would take a lifetime to explore the delights on offer in this beautiful part of the world. With country shows and fairs throughout the summer you will be spoilt for choice. This romantic little cottage is packed with character providing the perfect hideaway for a couple who enjoy cycling, walking and exploring this beautiful part of North Yorkshire.
Downstairs provides an open plan living space, with beamed ceilings, stone floors and a traditional window seat offering views out along the village. Comfortable seating surrounds the traditional wood burner, perfect for those cooler winter evenings. The bespoke kitchen is well-equipped with a Belfast sink, granite worktops and a quarry tiled floor. The breakfast bar is adjacent and makes a lovely addition to this sociable space. As with many old Yorkshire cottages, the stairs to the first floor are tucked away behind a wooden door and lead straight into the double bedroom. With views of the village and the luxury of an en-suite with roll top bath and underfloor heating, this part of the cottage really does have a homely feel. To the rear of the property is an enclosed, sheltered courtyard that catches the afternoon sun, a lovely place to just sit and relax with your favourite holiday tipple!
The local village pub is a mere three minute walk from the cottage and is well known for its beer festivals and pizza nights. The magnificent stately home of the Howard family, Castle Howard, is a short drive from the cottage and is home to ITVs ‘Victoria’ programme and of course the filming location of ‘Brideshead Revisited’. A day exploring the house and gardens will be a welcome addition to your holiday itinerary and you simply must try the cakes on offer from one of the tea rooms! The Christmas experience is also one of the very best in the country. There are also other stately homes in the surrounding area, including Duncombe Park and Nunnington Hall. Don’t forget the stunning gardens at Helmsley too. The Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is right on your doorstep.
This area is a fantastic base for both cyclists and walkers alike with a large network of footpaths and winding country lanes. Fishing can be found 2 miles away at Brick Yard Lakes in Amotherby (at additional cost). The famous market towns of both Malton and Helmsley are only a few minutes’ drive away. Both offer market days around the cobbled squares at their centres as well as a great array of shops to wander in and too many cafés and restaurants to mention. The ancient walled city of York with its beautiful minster and award winning-attractions is only a 20-minute drive away. If you want a little excitement in your holiday, Flamingo Land theme park is close by where you can enjoy the thrills of rollercoasters all day long. This lovely little cottage is tastefully decorated throughout with guests comfort in mind and is just perfect as your holiday home. Local pub and restaurant just 200 yards away.
