This deceptively spacious, semi-detached, old fisherman’s cottage is set just off the harbour in the centre of Craster. Dating back to 1890, it is tucked away, only a stone’s throw from the sea. It has a tiered garden which is detached from the property, about 30 yards away with views to the sea and harbour. The coastal path leads to Dunstanburgh Castle and onto the sandy beaches at Embleton. Craster is steeped in tradition and centred on the ‘picture-postcard’ harbour, where visitors should try the smoked Craster kippers from the smokery or the local pub. The coastline and inland is peppered with friendly villages and castles, where visitors will find they have to return to enjoy what is reputedly the most unpopulated and unspoilt county in England. Craster View overlooks the harbour in the popular picture-postcard village of Craster, and it has been refurbished to a good standard. It enjoys a bright, airy living and dining room with large picture windows and a contemporary kitchen area with a breakfast bar, as well as four lovely bedrooms on the first floor. Three of the four bedrooms also enjoy the most magnificent sea views. The sitting area to the front and the pretty walled patio garden to the rear, are ideal for those times you want to relax after exploring this exciting and unspoilt county.
Turn left out of the cottage and you’re almost at the entrance to the cliff-top walk to Dunstanburgh Castle, once voted in the top 10 walks in England. Craster is famous for its smoked kippers which can be bought in the village. It is an ideal location for walkers, cyclists, golfers or those just wishing to enjoy the relaxed ambiance within Craster View. Nearby Alnwick only seven miles away, is the home of the Duke’s Castle used in ’Harry Potter’ and more recently ’Downtown Abbey’. The town has a great choice of shops, pubs and eateries and makes a great day out. Craster is a super location for exploring the whole of the county and Craster View will delight all age groups.

Surrounded by open farmland and boasting magnificent rural views this charming cottage is an idyllic retreat. The Hemmel is set in a small group of cottages and has been refurbished to provide tastefully furnished accommodation. The living room enjoys the cosy comfort of a wood burner a perfect feature in the lovely, large, beamed living room, ensuring The Hemmel is a suitable choice for friends, couples and families regardless of the season. There is a large living room, a kitchen/dining room, one of the bedrooms and a family bathroom are on the ground floor while the other two bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite, are situated on the first floor and enjoy superb tranquil views and beamed ceilings. Outside the garden is laid to lawn with a lovely selection of mature shrubs and flowers, overlooking the fields adjacent where you may spot some animals.
The Hemmel is nestled down a single lane and less than a mile from the welcoming village of Christon Bank with its friendly pub. Although this delightful property enjoys a peaceful rural setting, the pretty coastal village of Embleton is only a couple of miles east where there are local facilities as well as access to a glorious stretch of golden sandy beach. A further 3 miles brings you to the traditional fishing harbour of Craster, renowned for its smoked kippers where you can walk along the clifftop to Dunstanborough Castle, voted one of the top 10 walks in Britain. Travelling a few miles north up where you will come to Seahouses where boat trips to the Farne Islands can be booked to see the puffins and grey seals at play. Here there are several charming tearooms, quaint pubs, amusements and shops. Other activities you will find here are horse riding, fishing and a golf course on the links.
Alnwick Castle and Gardens is also an interesting place to visit and even more so with the added attraction of Lilidorei a fabulous adventure play area for children up to 12 years (pre-book). The dramatic castle, still home to Duke of Northumberland, was the location used for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Hemmel is an excellent base for those who enjoy a tranquil setting with stunning rural views yet conveniently situated to explore the 20 miles of beautiful heritage coastline designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.

Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.

Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.

The traditional fishing port of Seahouses is a short drive up the coastline, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony, depart regularly from its harbour.
Take time to visit the picturesque village of Bamburgh where its dramatic castle is an impressive visitor attraction. A few miles inland is the historic market town of Alnwick where its own castle is the home to the Duke of Northumberland. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. A must visit is the historic market town of Hexham, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops, stop for a coffee or take a stroll along the river. Locally there is an abundance of eateries to choose from. A nearby inn serving good food and ales offers astronomers a star gazing experience and is a 20-minute walk away, with nearby Haltwhistle, Bardon Mill and Hexham offering a range of pubs and restaurants.
