Horse riders, cyclists and ramblers will love the numerous footpaths and bridleways which run through the picturesque scenery. Nearby Berwick-upon-Tweed is the most northerly town in England and offers a bustling shopping experience as well as many historic attractions. Also nearby is the picturesque town of Alnwick with its cobbled walkways and world famous castle. Other ‘must-sees’ are the picture postcard village of Bamburgh, which is almost dwarfed by its own hilltop castle, and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne which is accessed by a tidal causeway. From the coastal village of Seahouses, bird lovers can take a boat trip (in season) to the Farne Islands to see the famous puffin colonies.

Relaxing in the 6-person hot tub is just perfect after a day exploring this magnificent county, which was voted the best place to holiday in the British Tourism Awards. The park is set just inside the Northumberland National Park, a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, and sitting in the hot tub star gazing is a real treat.

Maple Lodge is just under a mile from a pub, and the lodges are popular with visitors who love to relax after attending weddings at the nearby venue of Le Petit Chateau. The nearby shop stocks some local produce and is handy if you forget essentials. The on-site restaurant (open weekends usually) is ideal for a nice meal, otherwise the pub is always welcoming in the village. The location is ideal for enjoying water sports on Kielder Water Park or visiting the observatory. Otterburn village has a friendly village shop stocking all the essentials including a wine selection, and nearby Otterburn Mill is a great outlet for indoor and outdoor wear and is popular all year around. The local tourist information centre is also located here. The small town of Bellingham is only 9 miles away with a golf course, cafés and pubs as well as a supermarket. The town has a quirky tearoom set in old carriages with a small visitor centre telling the history of the invasions from the Scots around the area.

The Northumberland Heritage Coastal route is easily reachable for a lovely day trip out where you can visit Alnwick Castle which was used in some ‘Harry Potter’ scenes. Northumberland is one of the friendliest counties in England and truly deserves the award in 2018 for the Best County to Visit in the British Tourism Awards.
