Wander down to the harbour and see the fishing boats at work, stroll along to the marina and small beach, where you will find some pretty beach huts that you can rent for a few pounds from the harbour master. Around the harbour’s edge there are some great fish restaurants to try and a varied selection of other eateries, coffee shops and ice cream shop within the town. The historic village of Warkworth is only 2 miles away, which is a lovely walk. A popular place to visit, with its fabulous castle dominating the skyline, a selection of good pubs, bespoke shops and galleries and pretty riverside walks. The beach is nearby and a fabulous place to go and walk. The market town of Alnwick, with its cobbled streets and famous castle, is a 15-minute drive away. The beautiful Alnwick Gardens, are worth a visit. Here you will find the world’s largest treehouse restaurant, beautiful displays and cascading waterfall. Explore further north on the Heritage Coast and you will come to the seaside village of Seahouses with its beautiful beach and selection of pubs, shops and fish restaurants. You can take a boat trip from here to the Farne islands and Holy Island. This is a Victorian workers cottage with many original features and was built for the farm workers of the Cragside Estate. This is a dog friendly property where two dogs are welcome, although they need to be kept on a lead due being on a working farm, there is an enclosed area where they can be let off and have a good run.
Staying at this cottage is to experience the history first-hand of the Cragside Estate’s Model Farm. Brimming with character on the edge of the National Park, East Cottage is in an ideal location for exploring the many visitor attractions throughout this glorious county. Only two miles from the pretty market town of Rothbury with its own private stretch of salmon and trout fishing (by arrangement and seasonal), East Cottage is set on a small historical site featuring the only agricultural weigh bridge left in the UK today and a Grade II* listed building of Agricultural Importance. The site is linked to the Cragside, Rothbury and Coquetdale Area. The property was built by Lord Armstrong of Cragside in the 1880s as part of his Cragside Estate to show off his model farm.

Wooler itself is just under 4 miles away and features a good range of shops, pubs, restuarants and facilities such as a post office and chemist.

This beautiful unspoilt area is close to Kielder Forest and Water Park which is fantastic for water enthusiasts, mountain bikers, cyclists and walkers where days out with breathtaking scenery is a daily treat. Kielder Observatory is also worth a visit. The Scottish Carter Bar with easy access to the Scottish Borders is only 18 miles should you wish to venture into Scotland during your stay. The small village of Otterburn is 9 miles with a good outdoor shop based in Otterburn Mill.

Day trips over to the coast don’t take too long and make a lovely change where you can visit the beaches and castles of Northumberland, perhaps stopping at Alnwick Castle and explore the cobbled streets.
