Cheddar village offers plenty of interesting shops and cafes as well as other attractions. Cheddar Gorge, Britain’s largest limestone ravine gouged through the Mendips, is a magnet for climbers, walkers and visitors to the floodlit caves and Cheddar Reservoir is a great place to take a picnic, look out for wildlife and join in activities such as sailing and angling. Axbridge is a charming market town with a medieval square and half-timbered buildings, whilst Wookey Hole attracts many visitors to the showcaves. Wells is England’s smallest city set around a cathedral; Wedmore is a lively town with many individual shops and eateries, Glastonbury is famous for its music festival, spiritual culture and King Arthur legends, and the coastal resorts and magnificent beaches at Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Berrow and Brean are all within a short drive, as are the cities of Bath and Bristol. Welcome to Withies, a wonderful large holiday home perfect for multiple families or friends to enjoy both inside and out. On the ground floor you will find a fabulous living room with a wood burner and a large electric reclining corner sofa, the perfect spot to relax in after a busy day. Head through to the spacious kitchen/dining area that comes packed full of everything you need during your stay. The dining table is ideal for large family meals and can turn into table tennis for some entertainment on those rainy days or fun evenings. You will also find a double bedroom on the ground floor.
Upstairs, on the first floor, you have two family bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds, the second bedroom with a double and a single bed. The family bathroom has a bath with shower attachment, plus there is a separate wet room with shower and toilet. There is also a further double bedroom and a smaller single room.
Outside, the large garden is set up for fun and games, from the mini football pitch to the trampoline and the children’s play area. The huge lawned area hosts a picnic table and BBQ for those long summer days you never want to end! When you arrive at The Malthouse a heavy oak door leads you into the original cart-way. From the cart-way, go down into the lower ground floor utility room, here you will find an extra fridge, washer and dryer. Also just off the original cart-way is a bedroom with a bathroom adjacent. A spacious open plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is stylish and handmade with all the modern appliances you’d expect. The dining area has a large, impressive Bath stone fireplace in front of the long pine dining table. Heavy curtains and underfloor heating keep you warm in the winter months whilst stone floors, lime washed walls and ancient beams reflect its historic character.


On the ground floor the sitting room and the garden room, both comfortable and thoughtfully furnished. The sitting room has an inglenook fireplace with a wood burner, ideal on colder days. Walk through the cosy sitting room to the airy pitch-roofed garden room and enjoy views of the garden and countryside from the window seats. Climb the turret stairway to the first floor where there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are large and elegant with crisp Egyptian cotton linen and fluffy towels, side tables, soft furnishings, and comfy chairs. Up another turret stairway to the second floor with another bathroom and a further two bedrooms, one with a unique view of the ancient malthouse roof structure through a floor-to-ceiling glass window. There’s a generous open courtyard and a large garden with lawn and lavender lined path. Guests can enjoy al fresco dining; there are large tables with benches and chairs, a large comfy sofa and plenty of blankets to lay on the grass. A range of outdoor games including table tennis are provided.


Grade II listed, The Malthouse is steeped in history with some parts dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries and is quirky in many ways with uneven steps and floors, all of which contribute to the character of the building. The owners just ask that you take care whilst you experience living in a historic house! The property is in an outstanding location. The city of Bath needs no introduction and is a 15-minute drive (or catch the bus from the village).

It has its own dramatic history to investigate, including the site of the Pitchfork Rebellion in 1686. Other world-class attractions nearby include Longleat House and Safari Park, Stonehenge, Glastonbury, and the National Trust’s Stourhead. Don’t miss other places of interest including the Hauser and Wirth art gallery in Bruton, Iford Manor’s Peto Garden and the pretty market town of Bradford-on-Avon. There is a utility room and an adjacent outside hot doggy shower, equipped with a washing machine, tumble dryer, throws (for use on sofas and chairs), towels, poo bags, treats and toys. There is a den room with toys and books, and a shared park close by with swings and slides. Wagtails provides everything you would need for your dogs and the family. The garden is well-fenced and has a large patio area with seating, a coal barbecue and a food serving area. The garden is private with views over the open countryside. The hot tub area also has seating and plastic glasses are supplied so you can sip sundowners whilst in the hot tub on summer evenings.
Adjoining a 200-acre nature reserve, offering beautiful country walks from the doorstep and further afield on the Blackdowns, Quantocks and Exmoor. A walking guide and a list of dog-friendly pubs can be found in the cottage. A dog-friendly café is a 5-minute walk up the track, serving freshly baked cakes, cream teas and tasty light lunches. The dog-friendly village pub is a 10-minute walk and offers real ales, open fires and good food.
