Fern Cottage is a quirky, rustic property filled with thoughtful touches that offers guests a brilliant holiday destination. Set over one level, this lovingly furnished holiday cottage has a cosy open plan kitchen/living room where guests can sit back and enjoy a multi-fuel burner after cooking up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen. Outside, at the front of the house, there is a bench seating two.
Straight from your front door, Barcombe Fell is within walking distance. The beautiful heather-clad hill gradually reaches the summit where you have spectacular views as far as the eye can see of Hadrian’s wall to the north and The Pennines to the south west. Barcombe Quarry is also famous as the place where a small bronze arm purse containing 63 Roman coins was discovered in the 1800’s. This find is now known as The Thorngrafton Horde and is one of many historic finds in the region.
The picturesque village of Bardon Mill is within easy reach of the A69 giving opportunities to explore this historic region by car or train, with the station only minutes away. There is also a bus service (no. 685) which travels between Carlisle and Newcastle on an hourly basis, and Bardon Mill is on the Newcastle/Carlisle railway line with a stopping service in each direction every 2 hours. Haydon Bridge offers plentiful facilities only 4 miles east and Haltwhistle, geographically acknowledged as ’the Centre of Britain’ has many amenities including several shops, restaurants, a sports centre and an outdoor swimming pool.

In addition, why not visit the Roman site of Vindolanda, which is world-renowned and the location of the finding of the Vindolanda tablets, the oldest ’postcards’ in the world. Harbottle is a welcoming village situated only 8 miles from the pretty picture perfect small town of Rothbury, found nestled at the foot of the Simonside Hills, sitting on the banks of the trout and salmon rich River Coquet. The Upper Coquet Valley is a popular destination for walkers and cyclists. It offers many facilities including tea rooms, pubs, shops, restaurants, cafés and a riverside 18-hole golf course.

The National Trust property at Cragside is a popular visitor attraction and is full of original and interesting objects with stunning gardens. The historic market town of Alnwick with its dramatic castle, which is home to the Duke of Northumberland and used for some scenes in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, is 20 miles east. The Alnwick Garden is also well worth a visit close to the castle which was founded by the Duchess. The Heritage Coastline, recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a lovely day out peppered with castles and miles of golden beaches.

Spacious for two people, Little Willows is ideally located to explore the Heritage coast, peppered with castles and friendly villages. Only a short drive from Amble, reputedly the friendliest port with a working harbour, good Sunday market and a good selection of pubs, restaurants and shops, with an award-winning ice cream shop on the harbour. Amble is the start of the Heritage coastal route so head north for glorious beaches or head west towards the National Park and Cheviots all within easy driving distance making fabulous days out. Little Willows and The Willows are both dog friendly properties and can be booked together for larger groups whilst maintaining privacy in both properties.

Kennel Cottage is a relaxing, tranquil retreat perfect for recharging your batteries for a special holiday or a much-deserved short break. With a small stream running through the garden the wildlife is abundant, Roe deer graze in the fields nearby, badgers and foxes are often spotted, and a small population of otters now reside in the area. The endangered red squirrel is seen here, often in the garden. Many rare bird species are regularly seen with the surrounding countryside home to ravens, peregrine falcons, buzzards and other birds of prey.
There is also a combination of cycle and dog routes directly from the property for those with bikes and furry friends.

Just over half an hour from Rothbury with some nice shops and cafes, pubs and restaurants, with Cragside House a popular tourist attraction situated in Rothbury. The Scottish Border can be reached in 30 miles where you can tour and discover some of the historic sites. Alnwick is around 20 miles with its majestic castle, cobbled streets, and the exquisite Duchess enchanting water gardens.
