    Otterburn village has a friendly village shop stocking all the essentials including a wine selection, and nearby Otterburn Mill is a great outlet for indoor and outdoor wear and is popular all year around. The local tourist information centre is also located here. The small town of Bellingham is only 9 miles away with a golf course, cafés and pubs as well as a supermarket. The town has a quirky tearoom set in old carriages with a small visitor centre telling the history of the invasions from the Scots around the area.

    The Northumberland Heritage Coastal route is easily reachable for a lovely day trip out where you can visit Alnwick Castle which was used in some ‘Harry Potter’ scenes. Northumberland is one of the friendliest counties in England and truly deserves the award in 2018 for the Best County to Visit in the British Tourism Awards. Take a trip into Newcastle and see the iconic Tyne Bridge or drive over to Hadrian’s Wall and visit some of the Roman Museums. Shop 800 yards, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

    Situated in the owner’s grounds, yet quietly nestled away, this semi-detached bungalow is 4 miles from the popular village of Lanchester, 3 miles from Consett for supermarkets and pubs and just 11 miles away from the city of Durham. The perfect spot for a quiet break, the village of Lanchester offers a super selection of places to eat, including three local pubs, an Italian restaurant and fish and chip shop. The very well regarded Knitsley Farm Shop is also only a little over 2 miles away and has a fabulous selection of local food and drink, and is definitely worth the trip.

    Ideal for guests who enjoy walking and cycling. There are numerous established public footpaths, walks and cycle paths close by, and the nearest cycle path is the C2C. The beautiful hills and valleys of Teesdale and Weardale are both between 20 and 30 minutes’ drive away, and walkers will find themselves surrounded by some of the most scenic countryside that County Durham has to offer. Hadrian’s Wall can be reached within an hour’s drive too and offers a more historic trail for walkers to take. The Derwent Valley Railway Path leads east towards the outskirts of Durham and is very popular with cyclists, whilst the Waskerley Way leads west and on into the vast open spaces of Weardale.

A day trip to Vindolanda, Aydon Castle and Dilston Castle are a must as well as a trip to nearby Newcastle upon Tyne which is only a 20 minute drive away, and offers cultural centres including The Sage and the Centre for Life as well as an extensive range of shops and boutiques. The popular Metrocentre is based in Gateshead and can be reached within a 25 minute drive and offers guests the chance to browse through the largest shopping centre in Europe, as well as enjoying a meal in one of the many restaurants or a film in the multi-screen cinema.
