Wooler itself is just under 4 miles away and features a good range of shops, pubs, restaurants, and facilities. The beach huts are set on the shore and a walk along the pier is a delight for all ages. Take a boat ride over to Coquet Island or enjoy a leisurely walk along to Warkworth Castle, only a couple of miles away, a picture postcard village steeped in history. Nearby Alnwick, famed for the castle and gardens, is a short drive as is the start of the Heritage Coast stretching all the way up to Berwick on Tweed AONB.

The small village of Otterburn is 9 miles with a good outdoor shop based in Otterburn Mill.

A further 2 miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Budle Bay is a bird sanctuary and at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is home to thousands of sea and land birds, making this location a haven for bird watchers. The historic market town of Alnwick, with its own castle, offers many facilities, just a short drive inland. The market is busy on Sundays with visitors and locals and pop by into the little shopping pods and the Lobster Fishery to see how lobsters are reared and perhaps pick up some fresh seafood.
Trips to Coquet Island are a nice treat in the summer or a walk along the coastal path to Warkworth to see the castle and riverside is a nice morning out. Nearby Alnwick is the home to the famous castle used in Harry Potter, whilst the heritage coast line, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretches from here up to Berwick-on-Tweed. Days out can be as diverse as you wish, head over to Hadrian’s Wall or onto the National Park, or perhaps a rainy day trip to the Metro Centre one of the largest in the UK.
