Heading west brings you to Wooler, which sits at the foot of the Cheviot Hills and is a popular destination for walkers and cyclists. Heading 20 miles south is the market town of Alnwick, with its own castle and Alnwick Gardens, which are a popular visitor attraction. The National Trust property at Cragside is an interesting visitor attraction. The historic market town of Alnwick, where its dramatic castle is the ancestral home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy) is 14 miles east. Fairways Cottage is a lovely detached, single storey cottage perched in the lovely village of Belford. The accommodation is all conveniently on ground floor level and is immaculately presented throughout. The views from the property are absolutely divine. A warm welcome awaits you in Belford, where visitors to Fairways Cottage can also benefit from discounts in the restaurant of the Blue Bell Hotel. The village offers many facilities including a well-stocked shop.
Situated less than a mile west of the A1 means Fairways Cottage gives access to the wild hills to the west and the golden stretch of coastline to the east. The picturesque village of Bamburgh, protected by its magnificent castle, is less than 6 miles to the east. A couple of miles further down the coastline is where boat trips to the Farne Islands depart regularly from its harbour.

Croft Cottage is a detached, single-storey cottage with outstanding countryside views, set in its own lawned garden in a tranquil setting, close to the edge of the Northumberland National Park. With the owner living on-site, the cottage was completely renovated in 2019 and has generous sized living accommodation with a lovely wood burner for those cooler evenings. Step out of the French doors and sit and admire the lovely views from the patio.
Nearby Rothbury is just over 6 miles away. This friendly and peaceful little market town has a strong community spirit with riverside walks, independent shops, pubs, cafés and is home to Cragside House and Gardens, a beautiful National Trust property, well worth a day’s visit. The energetic may wish to walk up the Simonside Hills or explore over to Kielder Water for the mountain biking or water sports. For cyclists bringing their bikes, a lock up bike store is available on request and is just a 4-minute walk from the cottage. Being close to the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the skies at Croft Cottage can be clear and bright should you wish to partake in a little star gazing while staying here.
Thropton is only 4 miles away with a couple of pubs and Harbottle, set in the Northumberland National Park is only 6 miles. You can easily travel over to Alnwick from here where a visit to the famous castle used in Downtown Abbey as Branchester makes a lovely visit, even more so for Harry Potter fans. Alnwick still has the archway through to the town centre and some cobbled streets are still in existence. Travel up the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Heritage coastal route taking in Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island, all easily reached from the cottage, making lovely day trips out. Beach 21 miles. Nestled away in Northumberland along a country lane and with views across open fields, Vindomora Country Lodges are an ideal place to enjoy a super holiday. Perfectly situated near to the banks of the River Derwent with a boat house and fishing permits available for a small fee, guests who enjoy river fishing will be spoilt for choice. Also just a few hundred yards from the Derwent Walkway as well as a variety of established public footpaths, walks and cycling routes, there is no better base for enjoying and exploring the local area. Then leading further out into County Durham, Northumberland, the Northumberland National Park and the stunning North Pennines. Only half a mile from the village of Ebchester, there are plenty of amenities and facilities right on the doorstep. A local village pub, excellent restaurants and a village shop are at the heart of this thriving community and within easy walking distance from the lodges. Golf lovers will be able to book a place on the famous Slaley Hall course just 15 miles away or the closer course at Consett which is just 3 miles away. The cathedral city of Durham, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is only 15 miles away and well worth a visit.
