This attractive, terraced stone cottage is set in a quiet corner on the edge of Chapel-en-le-Frith, outside the pretty village of Combs, which appeals to walkers and has a lovely pub/restaurant. Located on the edge of the Peak District National Park, the cottage is warm, welcoming and deceptively spacious, and is perfectly placed for exploring this beautiful part of the High Peak. Traditionally furnished with a homely feel, this charming cottage has character beams and a cosy living room, perfect for relaxing in, whilst the front bedroom has a stunning view over Combs Reservoir. Outside, is a quiet, secluded courtyard area overlooking uninterrupted views of open countryside, where you can sit and enjoy the sun.
Chapel-en-le-Frith means ‘Chapel in the Forest’, the ‘Chapel’ being the old Norman church which still stands in the market square with its original stocks. The forest has been replaced over the years by lovely old stone cottages. Market day is still Thursday, but is no longer a cattle market! The market place was filmed in the BBC drama ‘The Village’, where the Kings Arms featured as the old pub.
The Peak District is a paradise for walkers, cyclists and climbers, with fantastic walks and cycle trails from the doorstep; Rose Cottage is within 5 minutes’ drive of Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve, close to Edale and Hope Valley. For golfers, Chapel-en-le-Frith has a beautiful 18-hole golf course less than a 10-minute walk away. The adorably named Parsley Cottage can be found in the ever popular Peak District village of Tideswell. Nestled between the rugged Dark Peaks of the north, and gentle rolling dales of the south, Tideswell itself benefits from plenty of local amenities including shops, pubs serving food, cafés and annual events including a food festival, wakes week, arts festival and even its very own Last Night of the Proms. Probably best known for the large and impressive St John the Baptist Church, or the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’, Tideswell is surrounded by stunning scenery and glorious countryside and there are a number of other Peak District towns and villages within easy reach. These include Litton, 5 minutes’ drive, Eyam, 10 minutes’ drive, and Castleton, Bakewell and Buxton, all 20 minutes’ drive. Rue Hayes Farm Cottage can be found on the friendly owner’s working farm, set amongst the most glorious countryside on the south western edge of the Peak District National Park. Rue Hayes Farm first appeared in historical records in the mid 17th century, and has become a site of historical interest following the recent discovery of a hoard of over 50 Saxon silver half cross coins on the farm. The hoard has been sent to Birmingham Museum so they can assess their historical importance.

Magnificent views surround the property, which was completely renovated in 2018, and guests are welcome to walk in the owner’s woodland grounds. A path runs through the farm which leads to walking and exploring direct from the door. Dovedale, the Manifold Valley, and the Manifold Cycle Track are all within easy reach, together with local cycle hire if you don’t want to bring your own bike. After a day spent in the great outdoors you can come back, sit and relax in the bubbling hot tub in true peaceful surroundings with the most beautiful views (bathrobes are provided for those guests hiring the hot tub).
The small sandstone village of Onecote is about 1½ miles away, whilst the hillside market town of Leek is about 4 miles. Here you will find a charming cobbled market place and a wide selection of shops, restaurants and real ale pubs. Buxton and Ashbourne can both be reached in under half an hour, as can the Three Shires Head, which is the meeting point of the counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Chatsworth House, Matlock and Matlock Bath with the famous cable car ride to the Heights of Abraham, can all be reached in approximately 45 minutes, as can Trentham Gardens, Monkey Forest, and the National Trust’s Little Moreton Hall.
