The owner is a member of Clan Hannay, and there are a number of features throughout the cottage reflecting that family connection, including tartan in the twin bedroom and local ancestor portraits in the dining room. The clan’s seat is at Sorbie Tower, which is nearby and well worth a visit.Other activities include fishing, sailing and golf. Wigtown, Scotland’s national book town, and Whithorn’s historic dig are nearby, while Newton Stewart has a good range of shops, a cinema and swimming pool. Shop and pub 250 yards.

A delightful semi-detached holiday cottage in an idyllic location with magnificent sea views to the Isle of Man and the Galloway Hills. Situated ¾ mile up a private good road, on the edge of the owner’s 50 acres of private woodland, with paths leading to a secluded sandy, pebbly beach and rocks for sea fishing - 10 minute walk. Along the coast is the lovely little village of Port William, known as the “Machars of Galloway” and of course you must go and find “The Man” and get a photograph with him. As well as Port William, you can also explore quaint villages such as Sandhead, Portpatrick and the Isle of Whithorn. A must is a visit to Wigtown, which is famous for being Scotland’s National Book Town, a book lovers haven. The Mull of Galloway, Scotland’s most southerly point and home to the RSPB nature reserve, where thousands of seabird’s nests on the cliff face during spring and summer is definitely worth a visit. Dinduff Lodge is the perfect location to explore the area. Visit Dally Bay where seals and porpoises can be spotted. Walk down to the sea to the shore on Loch Ryan and around Wig Bay and The Scar, a circular walk along the loch’s shoreline and back into the village of Kirkcolm. The Scar is a sandbank which juts out into Loch Ryan, and home to one of the largest colonies of nesting migrant terns in the region. From a historical perspective, during the Second World War, Wig Bay was used as a base for the flying Catalina boats, evidence can be seen of this on a walk along the bay.
The Galloway coastline offers an abundance of sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore. Walking, golf, sea and freshwater fishing, pony trekking, watersports and cycling are all available nearby. Portpatrick is a short drive away and is another delightful little village where you can sit and watch the boats coming and going from the harbour or for the more adventurous walk part of the Southern Upland Way from here. There are many beautiful gardens to visit only a short drive away, including Castle Kennedy Gardens and the world-renowned Logan Botanic Gardens with is many exotic trees and plants and The Galloway Forest Park, the UK’s first Dark Sky Park, is a delight. The Byre @ Camp Douglas is a lovely and inviting barn conversion set around a courtyard and boasting picturesque views over Loch Ken. Furnished and beautifully decorated it is a large, bright and airy house with lots of space for all the family to enjoy. On the ground floor there is a fully fitted kitchen which has all the modern appliances you would need and the advantage of space for the large dining table so the cook need not miss out on all the fun. The bright and airy lounge has lovely views over Loch Ken and for the chillier evenings a large gas fired wood burning stove. Upstairs the three bedrooms are spacious, the master with an en-suite bathroom and there is a modern family bathroom.
Whilst The Byre @ Camp Douglas shares a communal courtyard to the front there is a private and fully enclosed rear garden with a summerhouse – the perfect place to sit and watch the sun go down over Loch Ken. There are many beautiful gardens to visit including National Trust Threave Garden. Close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and central to five of the 7Stanes, at Kirroughtree Forest and Dalbeattie Forest, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers.
