The cottage lies within a private 200-acre family-run farm and boasts its own enclosed orchard and courtyard. The orchard leads on to a footpath which, in one direction, takes you to the village of Hookagate with a pub that welcomes dogs and is popular for food, and a regular bus service to Shrewsbury. In the other direction the footpath leads to Hanwood, also with a village pub and local shop. Whitley provides the perfect destination for couples, families and anyone looking for a relaxing rural retreat.

Discover Old Church Farm, a truly wonderful country home in the rural village of Hinstock, set in north Shropshire. This incredible property has that all important wow factor that sets your holiday apart from all others. Sleeping up to ten guests, escape the trappings of fast paced day-to-day life with your loved ones in tow and enjoy a relaxing break in the beautiful countryside between the market towns of Newport and Market Drayton. The amazing living spaces are perfect for relaxing in with your loved ones. These incredible rooms have character with big, exposed beams as well as plenty of natural light. Gather around the log-burner in the spacious living room with your friends and family, staying nice and toasty all year round. When the weather’s warm open the glass bi-fold doors from the kitchen and let that fresh air in! The five bedrooms are lovely and comfy and offer you and your group a lovely night’s sleep. There’s a master kingsize bedroom with en-suite facilities, as well as three further double rooms. There is then one room with a single day bed which can extend into a further single bed - which is great for children. Take a walk around the village where you will find a small but well stocked village shop with a post office, a friendly community pub and a children’s playground which are only a 7-minute walk away. There are no direct bus routes in or out of the village, however, Newport (approximately 11 minutes’ drive away) and Market Drayton (approximately 11 minutes’ drive away) offer supermarkets, independent shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants to suit all tastes along with the weekly country market, monthly farmers’ market, canal walks and swimming pools/leisure centres, you have the ideal places to discover on your holiday.
Ironbridge, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, (approximately 32 minutes’ drive away), has plenty to see and do for all the family. Shrewsbury (approximately 30 minutes’ drive away), where ’A Christmas Carol’ was filmed on location, is full of finds to be discovered by foot or by boat. The River Severn is a must, as is the café culture, the castle and the churches that dominate Shrewsbury’s famous skyline. The Tumbling Sailor’s name derives from an old pub which was previously on the site called The Tumbling Sailors Inn. It was demolished in the early 1900s. This marvellous Shropshire cottage offers groups of up to six a wonderful stay located on the bank of the River Severn, and in the heart of Jackfield, you’re only one mile from the Ironbridge Gorge.
The cottage has a stylish interior, with modern features, and little touches of rural charm. You’ll love the comfy furnishings, oak beams, and exposed brick. A great spot to socialise with your loved ones is in the open plan living/dining room with comfy sofas, views across the garden and complete with a wood burner. You can stay toasty and enjoy a glass of wine long into the evening. This room also has a large wooden dining table with plenty of space for your entire group, and if that’s not enough there’s a conservatory with more seating to relax in and enjoy a book or cup of tea first thing. The property’s modern kitchen has all you need to cook up lovely meals, including a large Range oven.
The three bedrooms all sit on the first floor. The master boasts a kingsize bed, whilst the second bedroom has a double bed, and the third two singles for all your sleeping arrangements covered. There’s plenty of space and all have been decorated in calming tones but still showcasing that homely cottage feel. A large family bathroom with a luxurious corner bathtub and shower completes the first floor. Outside the River Severn sits at the bottom of the garden, offering you beautiful views and sounds from the river, and ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding. You’re located near to the wonderful village of Ironbridge, it’s just a quick, 15-minute walk from the cottage where you’ll find quaint cafes, great pubs and restaurants and independent shops to explore. The Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage site is a now a maze of footpaths, bridleways, and country lanes. Whilst the village is famous for being home of the world’s first iron-built bridge, built between 1777-79 a collection of ten industrial and Victorian themed museums makes up the Ironbridge Museums Trust, including the exciting Blists Hill Victorian Village. Within driving distance are the popular historical towns of Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Ludlow, as well as the Wroxeter Roman City, the Severn valley Railway, the RAF Cosford Museum, and many National Trust properties. The local village of Baschurch offers a small supermarket, two pubs, and a post office, within walking distance. With Shrewsbury approximately 20 minutes’ drive away, there’s a variety of things to do making it a great day out. Shrewsbury is full of finds to be discovered by foot or boat, the River Severn is a must, as is the café culture, the castle, the old market hall featuring local artists and lovely shops and eateries. There’s a produce and farmers’ market held regularly in the square, as well as a fantastic theatre. Visit Ironbridge Gorge, home of the world’s oldest working cast-iron bridge. Ramble through the Shropshire Hills, enjoying the countryside as you go. You can also drive your own steam train or dine in style on the Severn Valley Railway. Or venture over to the iconic foodie town of Ludlow.

Jackdaw Cottage sits on the Glyndwr’s Way footpath on the edge of the beautiful town of Knighton, within easy walking distance from the Offa’s Dyke Visitors Centre as well as the restaurants, bars and cafes in the town centre. It is on the south facing slope of a lovely small green valley know as ‘the Cwm’. The stone property is 200 years old with exposed stone walls and oak lintels. It has a large, enclosed garden and patio overlooking the wooded valley with private access to the clear babbling brook. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard in 2022/2023 with some beautiful character features throughout, perfect for a family holiday or romantic break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. it’s great for children and your four-legged friends to run about in this open space whilst you watch on, with a glass of something nice and listen to the local wildlife.
Throughout the year there are some lively fairs celebrated, and all year round, you will find an array of antique and gift shops, tea rooms, old inns, good food and friendly locals in Knighton. Local attractions include Offa’s Dyke Heritage Centre, Powys Observatory with Planetarium Show, golf, clay pigeon shooting and coarse fishing. The historic town of Ludlow, Hay-on-Wye with its antiquarian bookshops, and Presteigne all host cultural festivals during the summer months and are just a short drive away.

Orchard Barn lies on the grounds of the owners working farm, a converted cow shed which has been tastefully decorated throughout and offers home from home comfort in the glorious surroundings of the rolling hills of mid Wales. It has a great open plan living space with Smart TV and French doors leading to the patio area, whilst the kitchen comes with integrated appliances and a sizeable breakfast bar! The ground floor bedroom has an en-suite and the first floor twin room has its own bathroom. The large garden is enclosed, however those with small pets will need to be mindful that their dogs may get through the post and rail fence that surrounds the property.
Walks can be had straight from the front door of the property, if you are bringing your four-legged friend they will have plenty of space to roam. The village of Pen-Y-Bont is just 3 miles away and has a pub serving food. Further down the road in Crossgates there is a café, launderette and service station. The town of Llandrindod Wells is 8 miles and has an abundance of shops, restaurants and interesting walks and a fabulous lake that you can take a stroll round whilst listening to the local wildlife. Offa’s Dyke, a famous walking trail, is only a 20-minute drive, and there are plenty of other scenic walks nearby. The Royal Welsh showground, 15 miles, has lots to offer in the way of events and shows, not forgetting the famous Royal Welsh Show in July. Elan Valley is a must see with some fabulous dams and areas to explore. Pub 3 miles.

Betchcott is a hamlet near the village of Picklescott in Shropshire. It lies in the parish of Smethcott, in the northern foothills of the Long Mynd. The nearest town is Church Stretton. If it is time for a break away together, Keepers Cottage has you covered with all sorts of family friendly comforts. Even your dogs will find the large, enclosed garden a treat. Plus, if you would like to bring your horse along, yes you read that correctly, the owners can provide stables for up to six horses, along with a menage and three paddocks. There’s livestock on the farm and a beautiful private lake for everyone to enjoy, the owners are very close by and welcome you to enjoy all the facilities.
Inside, you have a well-equipped kitchen and dining area beneath wooden beams, complete with a Rayburn oven, fridge, dishwasher, and microwave. There is a roomy utility room, with more cooking facilities, a sink, and washing machine. Plus, a ground floor larder, with supplies and there is a ground floor toilet. Just off the kitchen is a lovely room for reading or playing board games, its light and airy and a great place to relax after a day out exploring.
The living room is open plan with the kitchen and dining area and very welcoming, offering a Smart TV and wood burner. The house was rebuilt in 2010 to a very high standard and features green oak beams and a warm, homely feel. Upstairs offers three bedrooms, sleeping up to six. The family bathroom is centred between them all, although the double does have an en-suite shower and toilet, so there won’t be any queues for the shower.
Outside Keepers Cottage is an expansive garden which loops around the property, including a decked area with outdoor furniture, a patio, and a large lawn for everyone to enjoy. The nearby pub is quintessentially English and is full of rustic charm and character, with oak beams, open fires, and a wonderfully warm atmosphere, only a short walk away.
Church Stretton is the main shopping area and has well known various independent shops from kitchen supplies to clothing. It also provides all the essentials with a supermarket and post office. The owners have plenty of recommendations for excellent places to eat around the wider area. You are within easy reach of the Shropshire Hills and The Long Mynd, which is excellent to explore by foot or bike and for anyone who enjoys nature.
Picklescott is ideally placed for access to Ride UK routes and the many miles of bridleways which criss-cross the Long Mynd for those bringing your horses. Further afield there is Ludlow, a thriving medieval market town and an architectural gem with a lively community feel, busy with events and festivals throughout the year. Perhaps the area’s charm is most evident in where you are staying, make use of the private lake for fishing or take a walk to soak in the breathtaking scenery. There is a lot to appreciate, and Keepers Cottage is sure to be a highlight of your next stay.
