Friary Cottage is a Grade II Listed, detached and renovated town cottage. Well-positioned and beautifully presented with some antique furniture, it boasts original, quirky features and is only a 5-minute walk from the centre of the town and a 3-minute walk from Ludlow’s train station. A cosy wood burner and gas fired Aga are amongst the treasures of the house. From the sun room/conservatory there is a new garden room to enjoy. Guests can also enjoy a private enclosed rear garden, a separate, small walled courtyard, and it is located on one of the most prominent streets of this charming medieval town. Ludlow is overshadowed by its own majestic castle, as it was once, like York, a seat of Government in Tudor and Stuart England. Now hosting the famous food festivals and events throughout the year, there is always a lively atmosphere here. It has a reputation for fine foods, award-winning restaurants, speciality and antique shops and even a racecourse. An excellent base to explore the unrivalled countryside for picnicking and walking or nearby towns such as Bridgnorth and Bewdley (Severn Valley Railway), Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Tenbury Wells and Leominster. The cathedral city of Hereford with its chained library and Mappa Mundi are all within a short drive, as are historic houses such as Witley Court, Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, Stokesay Castle and Powis Castle on the Welsh borders. Acton Scott, an historic working farm and the Secret Hills Discovery Centre are all just a few of the nearby attractions, so you will never be short of something to see. Shropshire has many quaint towns and villages to visit including Much Wenlock, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Shrewsbury, all are accessible within a 30-minute drive. Activity centres are dotted around the county offering anything from clay shooting, high ropes and canoeing to mountain biking and Segway and quad trekking. Nearby is also the historical National Trust Attingham Park, Wenlock Edge and Cardingmill Valley, as well as Stokesay and Ludlow castles. The Secret Hills Discovery Centre and Acton Scott Working Farm are great for children, and the glider centre on the Long Mynd and horse racing at Ludlow are also available nearby. This holiday cottage, newly converted in 2019, is situated just outside of the village of Baschurch which is set near to Shrewsbury and Ellesmere. Baschurch offers pubs, takeaways, churches, a large convenience store and cash point. The local bus, which operates between Shrewsbury and Ellesmere, collects and drops off on Springfield Barns main drive allowing guests to leave the car behind.
Shropshire is a gem of a county with so much to explore within easy reach. The north of the county offers the meres, mosses and canals along with the county town of Shrewsbury. Whereas the south of the county offers the stunning Shropshire Hills and food renowned market town of Ludlow. The county is home to Ironbridge World Heritage Site and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site and nine National Trust sites including Attingham Park.
Shrewsbury is the birthplace of Charles Darwin and is a wonder of medieval black and white buildings. The town offers fantastic dining, individual shops, craft markets, museums, art galleries and the stunning Dingle within the Quarry Park.
The barn is set within the boundary of the owner’s grounds and it neighbours The Parlour (ref UK10958) on one side. There is private parking for two cars within the main parking area and the property is accessed from the main drive.
You step through the front door into a very modern, bright, airy open plan conversion with vaulted ceilings and beautifully restored original exposed beams. Firstly, into the fully fitted and equipped kitchen area with breakfast bar, oven, microwave, fridge and ample storage space. Then into the living area with dining table for two people and the peaceful living area with a 32” Freeview TV and sofa. To the rear of the living area is the sleeping area with a kingsize bed and an en-suite shower room. It is surprisingly spacious for a sleeps two conversion.

The property has the added benefit of a ground floor en-suite bedroom, as well as five further en-suite bedrooms on the first floor. The gardens and barbecue area provide wonderful waterside views. They are very much geared for family groups and celebratory gatherings. Surrounded by the owners’ farmland, with footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes from the doorstep, these properties are the perfect country retreat. Another popular pastime in the area is fishing, which is available for guests of the cottages on Chelmarsh Reservoir and also on the River Severn (day permits can be purchased from local fishing tackle shops). Ideally located near to the historic town of Bridgnorth and the Severn Valley railway, with RAF Cosford a short drive away, the cottages make an ideal base for touring. The Ironbridge Gorge Museum and the hills of the Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge are about 10 miles away, whilst there are many interesting walks from the door as well as numerous picturesque villages waiting to be explored.
