There are several National Trust and English Heritage properties and gardens within easy driving distance, as well as an eclectic mix of independent shops in Shrewsbury. If your hungry after all the exploring, try the hearty food in the nearby pubs, seek out the local tea shops, peruse the farmers’ markets, head to Ludlow for fine fayre or pop over the Welsh border for ice cream made fresh on a farm, or just treat yourself to a relaxing night in. This detached holiday property that stands alone in large gardens - there is a fabulous view of Wenlock Edge, an area of Shropshire that is well known by walkers. The Wenlock Edge links Much Wenlock with Church Stretton, the only market town in this AONB. You’ll find many attractions around these areas where the surrounding villages form an excellent base for the country lover or sportsman alike, in all seasons. Cross-country routes are well marked for hikers, horse riders and mountain bikers. Shops 4 miles, pub 3 miles, restaurant 1½ miles.

This 19th century cottage at the head of a valley on the slopes of the Long Mynd, is accessed via a steep track. In a secluded setting on working farmland, it adjoins acres of National Trust land, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest with wonderful views and birdwatching. Walking from the door with the Shropshire Way, 500 yards away. Close by are Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Bishops Castle, Church Stretton and Ironbridge. Long Mynd summit (517 metres) is a 30 minute walk. This well-appointed detached barn conversion is situated in a quiet hamlet, midway between Bridgnorth and Ludlow, two of Shropshire’s most well-known and loved historic towns. The interior of The Barn has been thoughtfully designed with beautiful stone floors and a cosy woodburner, and outside there is a private hot tub. Set in a convenient location, it is within walking distance of the locally run pub, and a short drive away from the visitor attractions of Ludlow with its castle and racecourse, Bridgnorth, Ironbridge and Much Wenlock. Also worth visiting are the River Severn, famous for its tidal bore, the River Teme and the Severn Valley Railway. Other local attractions include Rays Farm, the inland funicular railway and Daniels Mill. This is an ideal touring base for people wishing to explore Shropshire and Herefordshire, as well as the mid Wales borderlands. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

A lovely barn conversion set in the Shropshire countryside just 10 miles from the historic town of Shrewsbury. Offering spacious accommodation, this beautifully appointed barn with modern styling and high-quality furnishings has been lovingly restored and retains all the original beams. The large utility room leads into the vaulted open-plan kitchen and dining area with beautifully restored original exposed beams. This bright and airy area naturally allows for social interactions while the dinner is being prepared. The kitchen is fully fitted and well-equipped, and patio doors lead out onto the seating area within the gravel garden. Further into the cottage is the relaxing living area with a wood burner, comfortable seating, and a Smart TV. The bedrooms and bathroom are at the far end of the cottage. Both bedrooms have exposed beams and feature brickwork walls. The garden is equipped with a pergola, a seating area with wooden tables, and chairs, and a barbecue. The lockable shed within the garden is suitable for storing bikes. Set within the grounds of Springfield Barns is a 2-acre field that guests can use along with the owners and other guests. There is also a second seating area off the dining area that catches the morning sun.
The Coach House is situated just outside the village of Baschurch which is near Shrewsbury and Ellesmere. Baschurch offers pubs, takeaways, churches, a large convenience store, and a cash point. The local bus, which operates between Shrewsbury and Ellesmere, collects and drops off on Springfield Barn main drive allowing guests to leave the car behind.
Shropshire is a gem of a county with so much to explore within easy reach, and is home to Ironbridge World Heritage Site and numerous National Trust sites including Attingham Park. Shrewsbury town offers fantastic fresh dining, individual shops, craft markets, museums, art galleries, and the stunning Dingle set within the Quarry Park. The Parlour is nestled away on a quiet farm, a great choice for couples, a small family or friends looking to escape and reconnect with nature. Located in the village of Northwood, in between Wem and Ellesmere, the property offers excellent access to surrounding areas each offering many attractions. Just down the road is one of Shropshire’s most beautiful meres, Colemere. It is almost surrounded by mature woodland and has two very attractive hay meadows to explore.
Shropshire has many special landscapes including the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Stiperstones and Corndon Hill Country crossing the border in the southwest of the county and the internationally important Meres and Mosses in the north. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site also includes part of Shropshire around Chirk in the north.
There are several towns just a short drive from Top House Farm which make a great day out. Why not stroll around the town of Shrewsbury, it is neatly scooped up in the loop of the River Severn. Inside the loop are Medieval streets lined with wonky buildings containing original and one-off shops and street names that truly tell a story - look out for Butcher Row, Fish Street and Grope Lane or a little further in the other direction is Chester. When it comes to beautiful cities, Chester is one of the best and should be on every tourist’s ‘must see’ itinerary.

The cottage has recently undergone a revamp, ensuring that it offers modern comforts while retaining its rustic charm. With Pontesford and Earls Hill only a few miles away it is well worth the climb to see spectacular panoramic views from the top. Orchard View at Oakleigh is also well-placed for many of Shropshires main attractions, such as historic Shrewsbury. Explore the lovely independent shops, cafes, and food markets throughout the year, the charming town of Ludlow or the imposing Stokesay Castle. Railway enthusiasts will appreciate the elegance of the Severn Valley Railway and the World Heritage Centre at Ironbridge is a must-visit. Pubs and restaurants 1¾ miles in the village of Pontesbury where you will also find your day-to-day essentials and local produce.

High Bank was renovated in June 2023 and rests in front of Pontesford and Earl’s Hills in the beautiful Shropshire village of Pontesbury. Facing south, and slightly elevated, the views stretch out over the Shropshire countryside which is by far the best views in the village. Behind the cottage, the scenery continues and with various public footpaths and walking trails on your doorstep so you are really spoilt for choice. This gorgeous cottage has been lovingly decorated with a combination of farmhouse collections as well as contemporary art and designer fabrics. Combine this with the backdrop and being so close to nature and the outdoors and it’s the perfect home to come back to after a day out exploring.
High Bank has a welcoming, cosy living room which has been tastefully decorated in pale calming tones and fabrics. Snuggle up on the comfortable sofas with a hot chocolate and a good film or just chat the evening away in front of the log burner. You will find a stylish, modern, open-plan kitchen/dining area, which is well-equipped to provide everything you will need for your stay. Meals can be enjoyed at the rustic wooden dining table which has comfy seating, ensuring your mealtimes are a joy. Outside at the back of the cottage is an ideal spot where you can sit and plan your day’s exploring over a delicious morning cup of coffee.
High Bank features two double bedrooms, a kingsize room, and a twin, so whether you’re planning a romantic escape or a family break, it’s ideal. Both bedrooms are elegantly designed in a country-chic style with sumptuous bedding and soft tones and come complete with spacious, modern en-suite bathrooms. As well as the cosy enclosed back garden patio, the spacious front garden has seating to provide a relaxing space for guests to chill out and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding area, overlooking the distinctive, humped hill. This hill roared forth from a volcano some 650 million years ago, and is now is a very popular spot for adventure seekers to explore the many trails. With a panoramic view at the top, it’s well worth the hike up, so just pack your water bottle!
Pontesbury has quite a vibrant community, and benefits from a number of shops, pubs, and restaurants. The area has easy access onto the national cycle route and an array of countryside walks. For the keen golfer, the local club is 3 miles. Shrewsbury, the ancient medieval market town, is only 15 minutes’ drive away. Filled with nearly 800 listed buildings, including the castle and world-famous abbey and a vast majority of independent shops, cafés, and fantastic restaurants there’s plenty to explore to suit everyone. For those seeking more outdoors adventure there’s great mountain biking, or horse riding at Eastridge Woods, with trails to suit all abilities. Other activities within proximity to High Bank include the national trust property, Attingham Park with some fabulous gardens and walks to explore and also Hawkstone Park. Ludlow, renowned for its beautiful architecture and food festivals, and Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage property are within easy reach.

These two properties are in the pretty village of Burwarton, at the foot of The Brown Clee Hill, and located just a minutes walk from a country pub ’The Boyne Arms’, which has been renovated and is run by the owners’ of these properties. The Boyne Arms offers fantastic meals in a most comfortable and cosy setting, the beer garden outside now includes private pods which guests can use to enjoy their drinks and food outside (see their website for opening and serving times). Included in your short break will be a return journey to either Ludlow or Bridgnorth, to enhance your stay without the need to worry about transport.
The Old School House 1 (UK32061) is a three bedroomed property of which one is en-suite and has a mezzanine balcony overlooking the open plan living space. The Old Kitchen (UK32062) is a studio apartment with the bedroom area in with the living area.
Burwarton is close to Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Bridgnorth which all offer an array of attractions as well as a large range of shops and bars. For the more active guests there are many walks to enjoy such as Clee Burf and Brown Clee Hill which is the highest point in Shropshire. The town of Ludlow is also just a short drive away and highlights for the day include Mortimer Forest and Ludlow Castle. After a long day walking and exploring all that Shropshire has to offer.
