It is ideally located and surrounded by both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, and has direct views up onto the North Pennine Fells, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Pennine View is idea for families and friends looking for their next base to explore the best that Cumbria has to offer. There are three bedrooms on the first floor all with spectacular views onto the Pennines, a twin room, a double and a super kingsize bedroom that can be split into a second twin if you prefer. The excellent family bathroom is also on this floor. Pennine View is ideally suited for up to 4 adults and 2 children. The ground floor is where you will be doing all your entertaining; the living room has Sky TV, plus amazing views direct from your sofa onto The Pennines; a separate dining room has extra comfy seating plus a wood burner for those cold winter evenings, with more views onto the neighbouring fells; the kitchen, with separate utility room, offers a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, electric oven and hob to make life easy while away. Outside there is a delightful garden to the rear of the property split over two levels; the bottom level is on a patio and has seating, whilst the second level is lawned with more seating and excellent views of the Pennines again. The garden is completely enclosed, ideal for pets and children.
You are spoilt for choice when deciding what and where to go, you could easily be enjoying yourself on the water at Ullswater or hiking a fell at Blencathra or up Helvellyn all in the Lake District or village hoping around the Eden Valley enjoying the local shops, cafes and bars in Penrith, Appleby or Kirkby Stephen all within a close drive from Pennine View. There are beautiful walks to Dufton and The Pennines right from your front door. The settle to Carlisle Railway is the perfect way to explore the beautiful area, as it crosses some of the wildest countryside in England over the Ribblehead viaduct. The local pub is 275 yards from the property and is open Thursday through to Sunday, perfect for when you don’t fancy cooking or simply to enjoy an afternoon beverage.

Situated in an elevated position directly on the historic Hadrian’s Wall Path, this detached, stone holiday cottage has been converted from a former barn and stands within the grounds of the owner’s home. Its peaceful, rural setting, with open views across meadows, is the perfect location for a relaxing break. The Roman Way cycle route passes near by. There are many interesting market towns, places of interest and excellent walking nearby plus the cities of Newcastle and Carlisle are within an hour’s drive. Shop 1/2 mile, pub 2 miles.

Prominently looking over the village green, and within touching distance of the Skiddaw massif, this link detached property is in the perfect location to explore the north western fells of the Lake District. Located in the heart of the village, with the village farm adjacent, the property offers access onto miles of quiet footpaths and local fells including little-known routes up Skiddaw and the back of the Blencathra massif. The beautiful beck, with its resident ducks, flows through the village and provides a great place for kids and dogs to cool off on warm days. The property is also only a few miles away from the historic market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth, which can both be easily accessed by bus, and offer a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.

The village is situated in the north of the Lake District National Park, and is also just a short drive to Carlisle and the Scottish borders - it couldn’t be easier to explore the area. Bassenthwaite is a real community village which hosts an annual duck race, frequent pub quizzes and a vibrant, active local church arranging village fates, sports days and even Morris dancing. This beautiful cottage is just over a mile away from Bassenthwaite Lake, where fishing and sailing are available, or for nature lovers a walk up to the osprey viewpoints is well worth the effort. The property is ideally located for cyclists, with rides including the C2C and Cumbria Way routes, along with off-road trails at nearby Whinlatter Forest. However you choose to spend your stay, this is a perfect location to make the most of the Lake District. There is a dog-friendly, village pub serving food, just a short walk away, whilst Armathwaite Hall hotel and spa, Ravenstone lodge and Castle Inn all provide alternatives within 2 miles. Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. April Cottage is situated in the peaceful South Lakeland hamlet of Staveley-in-Cartmel, just a stone’s throw away from Windermere and the National Trust park and gardens, Fellfoot. A former Besom store, this traditional whitewashed cottage is perfectly positioned to explore the popular Lakeland villages of Ambleside, Grasmere, Coniston and Keswick, as well as the quieter corners and beaches of the South Lakeland Peninsulas and West Lakes including, Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel and Arnside.

Just a short walk from April Cottage is Gummers Howe, one of the Lake District’s top ten picturesque picnic spots, whilst a host of woodland walks and cycle tracks lead directly from the cottage up into the surrounding fells to offer stunning panoramic views. The nearby, quaint market town of Ulverston, teeming with eclectic, independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants and with entertainment for all ages, is only 4 miles away by car. There are also days out at the Lakeside Aquarium, traditional steam train experience at Lakeside and Haverthwaite, and the popular South Lakeland Zoo which are also just a short drive away.

Beatrix Potter fans will find plenty to interest them at her home at Far Sawrey, near Hawkshead and at The World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness-on-Windermere, whilst art and poetry lovers will adore the delightful Dove Cottage at Grasmere, which was home to William Wordsworth, and the beautiful house and gardens of Brantwood at Coniston, which was home to John Ruskin. After a busy day splashing on the water in boats, hiking over the fells or cycling through Grizedale Forest, snuggle up by the fire and enjoy a cup of cocoa at April Cottage, or head out to the lovely pub close by for a sumptuous meal and drinks on the banks of the River Leven. Set in 18 acres of beautiful natural grounds and woodland, this charming wooden holiday lodge has its own private outdoor space along with shared use of an indoor heated plunge pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and table tennis table. Extended and refurbished in 2021, there is a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, a new kitchen, and a large veranda with seating and an external heater.
Right on the doorstep of the magnificent Langdales, 2½ miles from Ambleside and 8 miles from Coniston. It is a perfect base for touring and exploring the footpaths in the area with numerous woodland and hill walks straight from the door. Great for wildlife lovers, with deer and other animals freely wandering through this small, select woodland retreat. The Lake District Visitor Centre near Windermere is worth a visit (activities include high ropes, horse riding etc), as is the nearby water sports centre on Windermere. Pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Originally a traditional early 19th century Lakeland farm, Yew Tree Farm has been converted into a cosy, ground floor cottage, perfect for families and friends wanting to escape to the countryside. The cottage has a large gravelled yard area providing ample parking, as well as a place for children and dogs to play. Adjacent to the cottage is Yew Tree Barn, hosting many wonderful antiques and crafts, as well as Harry’s café, voted Cumbria’s café of the year for 2022.

The cottage is all open plan, offering a large living/dining/kitchen area with seating for six. The living area is well-furnished with an open fire and easy seating to relax and enjoy quality time together. The space also comprises a dining area with a table generously seating six, and a well-equipped kitchen complete with a range cooker. Past the kitchen along the hallway are two double bedrooms and a family bathroom. Further along the ‘L’ shaped building is a third bedroom with twin beds, a shower room and a large utility room – perfect for washing those mucky paws and leaving your boots and walking gear.

Bypassed from the A590, the tiny hamlet of Low Newton lies just inside the Lake District National Park. Its peaceful setting beneath the fells of South Lakeland provides the perfect base from which to explore the Lakes and the Cumbrian coast. Low Newton is also well served for good local places to eat and drink. Within walking distance at High Newton is Heft, a gastropub, opened in 2022, that has already earned national recognition, while a mile away is the friendly Royal Oak in Lindale. Three miles away is the village of Cartmel, the foodie capital of the South Lakes, famous for its sticky toffee pudding and the renowned Michelin three-starred restaurant L’Enclume. Also three miles away is Grange-over-Sands, a charming and genteel Victorian seaside town with a range of shops amply meeting the needs of any holidaymaker.
