Dog-friendly Shropshire

A grand old country house, still a family home – Buntingsdale Hall, an 18th Century masterpiece, stands in its own grounds overlooking the River Tern not far from the pretty county town of Market Drayton.
Approached down a mile long private drive, the principal apartment of the Victorian wing is yours. Following sensitive modernisation the apartment has all the comfort one expects but the grand bedrooms and drawing room with 18 ft. high ceilings retain all their Victorian splendour.
Think huge; supper in an enormous eat-in family kitchen, cocktail hour in the elegant living room. Relax on the big sofas, mix cocktails from the 1950s bar cart in front of the fire; maybe find out who killed Miss Scarlet from the board games trunk, while the little ones build wooden trains from the kids’ trunk - they’ll be too busy to look at their phones! After supper, the party continues down in the former servant’s hall, now a games room, with a full size snooker table, roulette wheel, darts, table tennis and roaring fire.
Five bedrooms, classic country house decor of antiques and florals, four en-suite bathrooms (two baths, two showers), family bathroom. Cotton bed linen throughout, with wool throws and lots of cushions, guests frequently comment on our comfortable beds.
Outside there’s a private secluded courtyard with a BBQ and a big table for all, and walks directly from the door. Do bring Fido; you can all walk a couple of miles across the fields to the pub in Market Drayton which has hearty food all day, brews its own beer, loves dogs and kids, with big tables and fires.
Within the estate is a private lake -carry one of our kayaks down with your picnic and barbecue gear and enjoy the stars. One of the most unspoilt parts of the UK for stargazing. Around you are all kinds of wildlife rarely glimpsed, birds of prey, kingfishers, badgers and wild fishing. Old fashioned fun: children can make camps and swing on trees, paddle. There’s a boat or they can borrow a bike and ride down the private drive to swim in the local millpond. There’s a fire pit with straw bales for a warm fire in the evening. The lake’s just across the drive, entirely private. Shops and pubs 2 miles.

Nestling in the small village of Culmington in the picturesque Corve Dale Valley, this single-storey, beamed barn conversion with a vaulted ceiling and cosy woodburner, has been stylishly renovated and provides an ideal year-round romantic holiday home. There is also a selection of books, a sitting-out area to the front of the cottage and shared use of communal grounds with stunning views. Nearby are The Clee and Long Mynd hills, Stiperstones and Wenlock Edge, all of which are a walkers paradise.
The medieval town of Ludlow, 5 miles, has a racecourse, 13th century castle, wonderful architecture, street markets, antique shops and Michelin-starred restaurants. Visit Church Stretton, known as Little Switzerland, Ironbridge and Shrewsbury, with its wonderful buildings, shops and riverside walks. Fishing and golf can be found within 5 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

The Old Toll House is a traditional, detached, country holiday cottage in the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge and is ideally placed to explore this world-famous Heritage Site. It sits less than 110 yards from the River Severn and is a short walk from the popular Coalport China Museum, or only a 5-minute drive away from Ironbridge.

This detached holiday cottage benefits from close proximity to a variety of great pubs and restaurants. People who enjoy the outdoor life are spoilt for choice; there is a National Cycle Route 55 yards from the property and cycle hire is available in the close by village of Jackfield. Just northwest of historic Shrewsbury and close to the Welsh borders, Field House stands in an ideal position for exploring and sightseeing within this lovely region. England’s largest inland county, Shropshire remains one of the country’s least populated and unspoilt landscapes, where bustling ancient market towns lie encompassed by acres of countryside. This is an area immersed in history, with the Domesday Book association, noteworthy castles which include the English Heritage castle at Moreton Corbet, the hilltop remains at Montgomery and Clun to the south, and of course, the splendid sandstone fortifications which dominate the centre of Shrewsbury.
Whether you crave activity, history, culture or shopping, nearby towns have plenty to offer all tastes and ages. Oswestry boasts the legendary King Oswald’s Well - said to have curative powers, Wroxeter the fourth largest city in Roman Britain is only 5 miles outside of Shrewsbury on the way to the historic Ironbridge Gorge and Blists Hill Victorian Town. The RAF Museum at Cosford, Attingham Park (National Trust), Hawkstone Historic Park and Follies, a 10-mile ride on the Llangollen railway through the stunning Dee Valley, or 18 holes of golf at Oswestry Golf Course - all are within easy reach of Field House. This large sandstone 17th-century holiday cottage stands detached on the banks of the River Severn with stunning views of the Severn Valley from both the house and the delightful lawned garden. It is located just 50 yards from Highley station and the Engine House Museum on the Severn Valley Railway, with steam trains running past the rear of the cottage. Journey from Marylebone station and change at Kidderminster to complete the fabulous journey by steam train. It is a perfect location for exploring the beautiful Severn Valley with its many footpaths, bridleways and river walks, with the famous Severn Way passing directly in front of the cottage and a country park just 50 yards away. This famous stretch of Stanley Water on the River Severn is one of the most prolific for barbel fishing in the country, producing barbel to 17lb on the BAA stretch of water outside the cottage. There are also two day ticket stretches at £6 per day, and lots of local carp fishing lakes. The Astbury 18-hole, award-winning golf course is a 5-minute drive away. The West Midlands Safari Park is a 15-minute drive away, and this property makes an excellent base for visiting Bridgnorth, Bewdley, Ludlow, Worcester, Ironbridge, Wenlock Edge and the Long Mynd, all within an hour’s drive.
