Dog-friendly Shropshire

Head into the rural hamlet of Croesau Bach in Shropshire to Pentregaer Issa. Located less than 4 miles from the lovely market town of Oswestry, Pentregaer Issa was built in 1823 but has now been renovated to become a beautiful getaway for couples or small groups of friends. After coming up the private driveway, guests can enjoy the living room with its comfy sofas, TV and electric fire. The well-stocked and homely kitchen offers a selection of essentials to get started with some cooking, as well as an Aga in the colder months to enjoy. You are also greeted with a lovely welcome with milk, eggs, butter, tea and coffee from the farm. There are two sumptuous bedrooms, one with kingsize bed and the other with a double bed, as well as a large stylish bathroom with a clawfoot bath and shower attachment.
There is no Wi-Fi at the property, so you can fully unwind and switch off from the world. For those wanting to dine alfresco in the summer sunshine, there’s garden furniture and a barbecue out in the garden, meaning there are opportunities to relax whatever the weather. A short walk behind the cottage, over the owner’s land, is the best kept secret of all, and the real wow factor about this property - the private lake, resting in 10-acres of land and offering utter peace to unwind. The owners have placed a picnic table there to fully make use of in the warmer weather.
The owners’ property is adjoined to the cottage, but will respect the privacy of guests and are on hand for help, advice and to do any essential washing of clothes at the farmhouse. Guests are free to roam around the 10 acres of the farm and explore the grasslands, meadows, woodland and the lake, complete with wonderful wildlife and rare species of flowers.
For those who want to venture a little further there is so much on offer within a 20-mile radius. Find traditional pubs and local shops in the nearby hamlets and villages, or spend a day shopping in Oswestry or Shrewsbury, both beautiful towns with historic buildings and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or a drink. Explore the wider region and travel across to Wales for Snowdonia National Park, the North Wales coastline, and beautiful Lake Vyrnwy and Bala.

Set on a courtyard and each enjoying its own terrace and lawned garden, the cottages are located in Plealey, a peaceful and pretty village of half timbered houses. Lying just 6 miles from the interesting shops, inns, restaurants and cultural life found in the handsome medieval town of Shrewsbury. Fishing 0.5 miles away and excellent golf course at Arscott 0.5 miles.

The beautiful Shropshire landscape promises delight for bird watchers and walkers alike – Offa’s Dyke long distance footpath is easily accessible, with many circular walks taking in hill forts and castles on the way, whilst buzzards and skylarks soar above. Caer Caradoc and the Devils Chair on the Stiperstones possess a wild beauty and the conservation area of Long Mynd offers a wonderful day out. Spanning the River Severn, Ironbridge and its fascinating museums are among a wealth of attractions discovered within a short drive, as is Ludlow, a famous paradise for ‘foodies’, with its superb annual festival, racecourse, impressive castle, fine shops and delightful old inns. These two properties are in the pretty village of Burwarton, at the foot of The Brown Clee Hill, and located just a minutes walk from a country pub ’The Boyne Arms’, which has been renovated and is run by the owners’ of these properties. The Boyne Arms offers fantastic meals in a most comfortable and cosy setting, the beer garden outside now includes private pods which guests can use to enjoy their drinks and food outside (see their website for opening and serving times). Included in your short break will be a return journey to either Ludlow or Bridgnorth, to enhance your stay without the need to worry about transport.
The Old School House 1 (UK32061) is a three bedroomed property of which one is en-suite and has a mezzanine balcony overlooking the open plan living space. The Old Kitchen (UK32062) is a studio apartment with the bedroom area in with the living area.
Burwarton is close to Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Bridgnorth which all offer an array of attractions as well as a large range of shops and bars. For the more active guests there are many walks to enjoy such as Clee Burf and Brown Clee Hill which is the highest point in Shropshire. The town of Ludlow is also just a short drive away and highlights for the day include Mortimer Forest and Ludlow Castle. After a long day walking and exploring all that Shropshire has to offer. Near to the famous foodie market town or Ludlow and walking distance to a lovely local bar/bistro, Apple Tree Lodge is set on the grounds of a 2,000-acre estate where guests are welcome to walk and take in the stunning Shropshire countryside.
The lodge itself is a converted, small L-shape property all set on one level. An open plan layout with a kitchen with all the mod cons, a large dining area big enough for six and a light spacious lounge with a wood burner, excellent too cosy up next to after your long county walks or the colder nights.

Telford town centre is just a short drive away and is home to family attractions including Telford Town Park and the children’s playground Wonderland, as well as restaurants and the town centre. For those looking for a day out shopping, Shrewsbury town is half an hour away.
