The cottage lies within a private 200-acre family-run farm and boasts its own enclosed orchard and courtyard. The orchard leads on to a footpath which, in one direction, takes you to the village of Hookagate with a pub that welcomes dogs and is popular for food, and a regular bus service to Shrewsbury. In the other direction the footpath leads to Hanwood, also with a village pub and local shop. Whitley provides the perfect destination for couples, families and anyone looking for a relaxing rural retreat.

Set on the banks of the River Severn, Shrewsbury is one of the country’s most picturesque medieval towns. The property is placed on a quiet walkway in Historic Ludlow. The house offers welcoming and comfortable accommodation over four floors and is bursting with charm and character from exposed beams to original oak flooring. This is a great base within walking distance of an array of restaurants, cafes, pubs, boutique shops, and the historic castle.
Walking in the front door there is space to hang coats and kick off your shoes. The ground floor has an open plan sitting / dining room flooded with natural light through the original sash windows looking out onto the large garden. The sitting area with its comfy sofa and chairs is the perfect spot to relax and read or watch TV in front of the open fire. A beautifully crafted wooden staircase takes you down to a well-equipped kitchen with double doors out to the garden. A breakfast bar with two stools perfectly positioned to enjoy watching the designated cook whip up a feast from the lovely local produce you’ve picked up that day while enjoying a pre-dinner drink. Wooden stairs lead from the dining area up to the first floor with a large comfortable double bedroom and a lovely bathroom where you can enjoy a candlelit bath in a freestanding bathtub. These two properties are in the pretty village of Burwarton, at the foot of The Brown Clee Hill, and located just a minutes walk from a country pub ’The Boyne Arms’, which has been renovated and is run by the owners’ of these properties. The Boyne Arms offers fantastic meals in a most comfortable and cosy setting, the beer garden outside now includes private pods which guests can use to enjoy their drinks and food outside (see their website for opening and serving times). Included in your short break will be a return journey to either Ludlow or Bridgnorth, to enhance your stay without the need to worry about transport.
The Old School House 1 (UK32061) is a three bedroomed property of which one is en-suite and has a mezzanine balcony overlooking the open plan living space. The Old Kitchen (UK32062) is a studio apartment with the bedroom area in with the living area.
Burwarton is close to Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Bridgnorth which all offer an array of attractions as well as a large range of shops and bars. For the more active guests there are many walks to enjoy such as Clee Burf and Brown Clee Hill which is the highest point in Shropshire. The town of Ludlow is also just a short drive away and highlights for the day include Mortimer Forest and Ludlow Castle. After a long day walking and exploring all that Shropshire has to offer. Jackdaw Cottage sits on the Glyndwr’s Way footpath on the edge of the beautiful town of Knighton, within easy walking distance from the Offa’s Dyke Visitors Centre as well as the restaurants, bars and cafes in the town centre. It is on the south facing slope of a lovely small green valley know as ‘the Cwm’. The stone property is 200 years old with exposed stone walls and oak lintels. It has a large, enclosed garden and patio overlooking the wooded valley with private access to the clear babbling brook. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard in 2022/2023 with some beautiful character features throughout, perfect for a family holiday or romantic break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. it’s great for children and your four-legged friends to run about in this open space whilst you watch on, with a glass of something nice and listen to the local wildlife.
Throughout the year there are some lively fairs celebrated, and all year round, you will find an array of antique and gift shops, tea rooms, old inns, good food and friendly locals in Knighton. Local attractions include Offa’s Dyke Heritage Centre, Powys Observatory with Planetarium Show, golf, clay pigeon shooting and coarse fishing. The historic town of Ludlow, Hay-on-Wye with its antiquarian bookshops, and Presteigne all host cultural festivals during the summer months and are just a short drive away.

It hosts the famous Food Festivals and events throughout the year, there is always a lively atmosphere in the town. It has a reputation for fine foods, speciality and antique shops, and even a racecourse. The castle hosts a number of events that run throughout the year, including being a beautiful spot for weddings. There are many walks in and around the town and guests can walk to explore the town or to visit one of the many pubs or restaurants. An excellent base to explore the unrivalled countryside for picnicking and walking, or nearby towns such as Bridgnorth and Bewdley with the Severn Valley Railway, Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Tenbury Wells and Leominster. The cathedral city of Hereford with its chained library and Mappa Mundi are all within a short drive, as are historic houses such as Witley Court, Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, Stokesay and Powis Castle on the Welsh borders. Millers Loft is the ideal hideaway, tucked away in the Shropshire countryside, just a short drive from the medieval town of Shrewsbury, sleeping two adults and two children or a couple. Nearby attractions include the Bishop’s Castle, and the historic town of Ironbridge and thriving market town of Ludlow.
Millers Loft has been thoughtfully decorated by the owners, with its bright colour scheme creating a calming air to relax in. Upon entering, guests will notice the open plan living area, making it a great space to relax in and socialise. To the right-hand side are the stairs up to the mezzanine with the comfy double bed. The kitchen is well-equipped and comes with everything you will need for your stay, along with a dining table and four chairs. The children get to enjoy the bunk bedroom, and there’s a bright family bathroom. Trees and greenery are dotted throughout the lawn area, outdoor seating, and plenty to see. There’s a well, a pond and a wonderful feeling of being in nature.
A few minutes’ drive down the road is Pontesbury, you’ll find Earl’s Hill Nature reserve and Pontfords hill, the village also has a butcher, deli, supermarket, hairdressers, and a few takeaway restaurants. Shrewsbury is full of finds to be discovered by foot or by boat, the River Severn is a must, as is the café culture, farmer’s market, the castle, and the churches that dominate Shrewsbury’s famous skyline, only a ten-minute drive. Further afield takes you to the medieval market town of Ludlow, famous for its castle as well as many food and drink festivals throughout the year to enjoy.
