Whitehaven’s harbour has undergone major investment and development and is home to The Beacon Museum with interactive displays. Ennerdale Water, 6 miles, is widely regarded as one of the most unspoilt areas of the Lake District and is teaming with wildlife including indigenous red squirrels, osprey and buzzards. If that’s not enough, Loweswater, 13 miles, which leads to Crummock Water and then Buttermere, is well worth a visit.
