Cyclists will enjoy the quiet country lanes and golfers will find Keswick Golf Course 1½ miles away.
The popular bustling market town of Keswick with an abundance of interesting shops, eateries and a good leisure centre is 4½ miles. Stretch your legs along the edge of Derwentwater or through Borrowdale Valley and pick up the Keswick launch to cruise back again.
Towards the south, Ullswater and Thirlmere are a short drive away and both connect via passes and spectacular scenery to the South Lakes.

The Alpaca Lodge offers premium accommodation for couples and families. Situated on a small holding, you will find Alpacas, Mediterranean donkeys, hens and horses. The native red squirrels often make an appearance, roe deer and even the badgers at night-time.
From here you can enjoy direct views to the Alpacas, these curious creatures provide endless entertainment, they are playful, cute, and intriguing. The owners offer meet and greet with the animals and Alpaca Walking, which can be pre-booked.
Local facilities include Ennerdale Brewery, with its real ale tap room and restaurant, and a pub which serves good pub food, both just ¼ mile down the road, and a good shop is 2½ miles away. At the end of the drive is a footpath leading into the Marron Leys Woodlands. This is a lovely mix of managed woodland and open grassy areas, ideal for a short stroll, plus your dogs will love it. The lodge is in the village of Rowrah, on the fringe of The Lake District National Park between Cockermouth and Ennerdale. Within 2 miles is the National Park with its abundance of walks, cycle routes, wildlife, mountains, and lakes.
The property offers easy access to explore the Western Lake District and coast, and you have a couple of pubs and restaurants nearby. The nearest lake is Ennerdale Water, about 4 miles away. Widely regarded as one of the most unspoilt areas of The Lake District National Park, Ennerdale is teeming with wildlife, including indigenous red squirrels, ospreys, and buzzards. Loweswater is less than 6 miles away, leading on to Crummock Water and Buttermere. The scenery around this unspoilt part of The Lakes is stunning, and the beauty, colours and unforgettable panoramic views are magnificent.
Whether you want an easy stroll, a challenging walk, or a serious climb, this makes a great base from which to start your adventures. For outdoor lovers, you can easily access Ennerdale, one of the most unspoilt and wild parts of the Lake District, here you can tick off many of the 214 Wainwright fells, so it’s a great base for fell walking.Rowrah is home to a very popular go karting track, ¾ mile away, which is one of the best in the UK if you want an adrenaline boost. There is also good access to several coastal towns including Whitehaven, 7 miles, with good restaurants, a popular harbour and good shopping.
St Bees Head Heritage Coast is within 10 miles, offering excellent coastal walks and sandy beaches, whilst the lively market town of Cockermouth, 9 miles, has an abundance of speciality shops, coffee houses, restaurants, and attractions. Visit Wordsworth House for a spot of culture, or maybe Jennings Brewery beneath the castle walls offering tasting tours.

Yewtree House is an impressive Holiday home of considerable size and will comfortably accommodate up to 16 guests, with a large dining table. The house is easily accessible, only 5 minutes drive from the M6 in the village of Tirril, and lies only 3 miles from Ullswater and Pooley Bridge and 3 miles from Penrith. The pub in Tirril is within easy walking distance and provides a restaurant and small shop. Bar meals are served throughout the day. A mile away in Yanwath is another pub restaurant renowned for its cuisine.
Tirril Lodge sits in spacious grounds with views over open countryside to both the front and rear. Activities available locally include pony trekking at Sockbridge and a variety of water sports on Ullswater, including sailing instruction, as well as some of the best fell walking in the Lake District. Situated just 2½ miles from the beautiful scenery of Ullswater, you can enjoy a trip around the lake on a steamer and visit the impressive waterfall at Aira Force. A spectacular journey along the shores of Ullswater and over the Kirkstone Pass takes you to Lake Windermere. At the head of Derwentwater and 15 miles from Sockbridge, lies the town of Keswick with its lovely parks and selection of coffee, gift and outdoor shops.

River View Cottage is a detached, ground floor cottage accommodating up to four guests, with an open plan living/dining room and views up the river, making it ideal for entertaining. Brockholes Farm is situated along the banks of the River Lune and surrounded by the stunning Howgill Fells. There are five stunning holiday cottages on the old farm, which is just 2 miles from Tebay and close to the M6.
Each of the cottages have been lovingly renovated from old farm buildings and are furnished and decorated to a very good standard, retaining character and charm. They all come with private outdoor seating areas with excellent views onto the river and down into the valley, along with shared use of a children’s play area, plus the opportunity for walks across the owner’s land and fishing on the river.
This area is surrounded by what is effectively three National Parks. The North Pennines boasts rolling hills, woodland, and picturesque surroundings, the Yorkshire Dales National Park has caves, waterfalls and iconic and historical towns and villages, whilst the Lake District National Park features lakes, mountains and a number of tourist hotspots. Nearby Kirkby Stephen is steeped in history and offers a good selection of bars, restaurants, independent shops and sights to visit. The market town of Kendal, 10 miles, is known as the ‘gateway to the southern Lake District’, and is perfect for a day of shopping. From here you can easily access the popular tourist hotspots of Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere, as well as take a cruise on the famous Windermere steamers.
