The village is situated in the north of the Lake District National Park, and is also just a short drive to Carlisle and the Scottish borders - it couldn’t be easier to explore the area. Bassenthwaite is a real community village which hosts an annual duck race, frequent pub quizzes and a vibrant, active local church arranging village fates, sports days and even Morris dancing. This beautiful cottage is just over a mile away from Bassenthwaite Lake, where fishing and sailing are available, or for nature lovers a walk up to the osprey viewpoints is well worth the effort. The property is ideally located for cyclists, with rides including the C2C and Cumbria Way routes, along with off-road trails at nearby Whinlatter Forest. However you choose to spend your stay, this is a perfect location to make the most of the Lake District. River View Cottage is a detached, ground floor cottage accommodating up to four guests, with an open plan living/dining room and views up the river, making it ideal for entertaining. Brockholes Farm is situated along the banks of the River Lune and surrounded by the stunning Howgill Fells. There are five stunning holiday cottages on the old farm, which is just 2 miles from Tebay and close to the M6.
Each of the cottages have been lovingly renovated from old farm buildings and are furnished and decorated to a very good standard, retaining character and charm. They all come with private outdoor seating areas with excellent views onto the river and down into the valley, along with shared use of a children’s play area, plus the opportunity for walks across the owner’s land and fishing on the river.
This area is surrounded by what is effectively three National Parks. The North Pennines boasts rolling hills, woodland, and picturesque surroundings, the Yorkshire Dales National Park has caves, waterfalls and iconic and historical towns and villages, whilst the Lake District National Park features lakes, mountains and a number of tourist hotspots. If you like walking, hiking, climbing, cycling or you just like to drive around beautiful countryside and enjoy afternoon tea and a bit of shopping, you’re spoilt for choice.
Nearby Kirkby Stephen is steeped in history and offers a good selection of bars, restaurants, independent shops and sights to visit. It also offers several walking routes locally, plenty of wildlife and pleasant scenery. The market town of Kendal, 10 miles, is known as the ‘gateway to the southern Lake District’, and is perfect for a day of shopping. From here you can easily access the popular tourist hotspots of Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere, as well as take a cruise on the famous Windermere steamers.

The Alpaca Lodge offers premium accommodation for couples and families. Situated on a small holding, you will find Alpacas, Mediterranean donkeys, hens and horses. The native red squirrels often make an appearance, roe deer and even the badgers at night-time.

At the end of the drive is a footpath leading into the Marron Leys Woodlands. This is a lovely mix of managed woodland and open grassy areas, ideal for a short stroll, plus your dogs will love it. The lodge is in the village of Rowrah, on the fringe of The Lake District National Park between Cockermouth and Ennerdale. Within 2 miles is the National Park with its abundance of walks, cycle routes, wildlife, mountains, and lakes.
The property offers easy access to explore the Western Lake District and coast, and you have a couple of pubs and restaurants nearby. The nearest lake is Ennerdale Water, about 4 miles away. Widely regarded as one of the most unspoilt areas of The Lake District National Park, Ennerdale is teeming with wildlife, including indigenous red squirrels, ospreys, and buzzards. Loweswater is less than 6 miles away, leading on to Crummock Water and Buttermere. The scenery around this unspoilt part of The Lakes is stunning, and the beauty, colours and unforgettable panoramic views are magnificent.
Whether you want an easy stroll, a challenging walk, or a serious climb, this makes a great base from which to start your adventures. For outdoor lovers, you can easily access Ennerdale, one of the most unspoilt and wild parts of the Lake District, here you can tick off many of the 214 Wainwright fells, so it’s a great base for fell walking.Rowrah is home to a very popular go karting track, ¾ mile away, which is one of the best in the UK if you want an adrenaline boost. There is also good access to several coastal towns including Whitehaven, 7 miles, with good restaurants, a popular harbour and good shopping.
St Bees Head Heritage Coast is within 10 miles, offering excellent coastal walks and sandy beaches, whilst the lively market town of Cockermouth, 9 miles, has an abundance of speciality shops, coffee houses, restaurants, and attractions. Visit Wordsworth House for a spot of culture, or maybe Jennings Brewery beneath the castle walls offering tasting tours.

As you arrive at the Beckside House, there is ample private parking directly outside the property making for a smooth transition of bags in the house. The entrance hall is light and airy and has hanging for coats and a rack for shoes. To the left is a good-sized twin bedroom with plenty of storage. The two single beds are zip and link so can be configured as a second double if preferred (please specify at the time of booking). Situated next to the second bedroom is the open living space, finished to a good standard with a modern feel. The living area benefits from a 50” TV and gives views to the enclosed patio and garden area, with French doors so you can open the whole space up on warm summer days. There is a round, glass table for dining and the well-appointed kitchen means the cook can still be part of the conversation as dinner is prepared. The kitchen has a large fridge/freezer, electric hob and oven, microwave and a dishwasher. These is also a washing machine for the outdoor enthusiast who may get caught out by the weather. The property houses a large bath to soak away the day’s aches and pains, and a large drench shower. The property is completed by the large master bedroom which has plenty of space and a kingsize bed to lull you to sleep.

The property is ideally located with the centre of Dalton-in-Furness only a 2-minute walk from the front door. Dalton offers a good range of shops and take-aways, as well as a selection of lovely pubs which offer food as well as a good selection of beers. Within 3 miles are a number of attractions, such as the Safari Zoo, Furness Abbey and a local leisure centre with a great pool for kids. If you want to travel a bit further afield then within a 20-mile radius there is the World-famous Lake Windermere, Lakeland Motor Museum, Go-Ape High ropes adventure, Miniature Village, Bigland Hall equestrian (Horse riding) and Lakes Aquarium to name but a few, so there is something for every family member, and of course, you are at the gateway to the whole of the Lake District National Park.

Shore Meadow is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Set just 150 yards from a beautiful, secluded sandy beach and enjoying an idyllic position in this tranquil, south-western corner of the Lakes where the mountains almost meet the sea. This semi-detached cottage is a short walk from the peaceful village centre of Silecroft. It has stunning westerly views over the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man and easterly views to Black Combe Fell. The beach extends for miles in both directions and is perfect for dog walking, lazy days building sandcastles or taking to the sea for fishing.

Shore Meadow has two double bedrooms and has been furnished and equipped to provide a really comfortable stay. Nearby attractions include Cumbria Heavy Horses, a BHS approved riding centre offering fell and beach rides on Clydesdale and Shire horses; water sports centre at Port Haverigg; South Lakeland Wild Animal Park, home to tigers, lions, white rhino, giraffes and lots of monkeys; historic Muncaster Castle, with stunning gardens and many seasonal events, also home of the World Owl Trust, and Ravenglass and Eskdale Narrow Gauge Railway, where you can ride a steam train through some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District. A farm shop and gallery at nearby Bootle also offers breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas. Short, beautiful drives take you to Coniston, with the Ruskin Museum which houses geology and copper mining exhibits; the boating centre and Bluebird Café, or Whitehaven, Cumbria’s oldest harbour, where the Rum Story exhibition gives a fresh view on the town, and The Beacon Museum, with five floors of interactive exhibits, powerful telescopes and seafaring displays, providing a fun family day out.
