Semi-detached with Grooms Cottage (ref UKC2221), this property has been restored in to a wonderful cottage, adjacent to Holly Lodge (ref 27273), off the large shared parking area.

Holly Lodge (27273) is a detached, spacious, 18th-century country house, and has been thoughtfully furnished to a good standard with a profusion of original features, which have been retained and restored. Whilst all three properties are set in substantial wooded gardens, with formal lawns, an orchard and patio areas, each property has their own private sitting-out area. The whole garden is surrounded by countryside and is very private and secure.
Cockermouth, 8 miles, has coffee shops, restaurants, gastro pubs, shops, cycle hire and art galleries. There are theatres in Keswick, Cockermouth and Whitehaven, all within easy reach and hosting musical and theatrical events all year. The small rural village of Aspatria, 2 miles, also has a small selection of shops. There is a public swimming pool in Cockermouth or you can have your own personal indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and steam room (rented by the hour locally, it is recommended to book early), just 500 yards away from the properties. Fly fishing is available with a trout pond in Gilcrux, 2 miles, and the rivers Ellen in Aspatria, and Derwent in Cockermouth. The beach, lakes and fells are just a 15-minute drive away. Horse riding is also available locally. Shops, pubs and restaurants within 2 miles.

The properties are located just 600 yards from the lake and are accessed along a quiet country lane. Loweswater is one of the smallest lakes in the Lake District with the village of Loweswater being set on the banks of the lake itself. Nestled in a wooded valley in The Vale of Lorton, it is the first link in a chain of lakes including Crummock Water and Buttermere. If you like to explore and enjoy walking, hiking, climbing or cycling, you have a vast expanse of natural Lakeland scenery to explore, including many of the 214 Wainwright peaks within easy reach. Some of the lower fells include Low Fell, Blake Fell and Gravel Fell to the west, with Mellbreak to the south and to the east. There are some more challenging routes around Grasmoor at 2,795ft. The area boasts beautiful flora and fauna as well as an abundance of wildlife including buzzards, kestrels, ospreys and red squirrels. A trip to Loweswater wouldn’t be the same without a trip to the local hostelry, 2 miles, famous for its great food and award winning beer, ’Loweswater Gold’.

The surrounding area has many attractions and places to visit. The popular town of Cockermouth is just 7 miles away. With a delightful selection of independent shops, restaurants, coffee shops, delicatessens and pubs serving a variety of craft ales, it makes a great day out. It’s also the birthplace of William Wordsworth and home the famous Jennings Brewery, nestled beneath the castle walls. If you fancy a day at the seaside, you have a great beach at St Bees Head, 13 miles, with a long stretch of golden sand and plenty of great walking and cycling routes. For golfers there are a number of courses in the area, the nearest being Workington, 7 miles. Whinlatter Forest, 8 miles, has some gentle family cycling trails, or high adrenaline tree top adventure at Go Ape. Or continue along the Whinlatter Pass to Keswick, 12 miles, to find everything this bustling town has to offer. Situated in the beautiful village of Bassenthwaite you will find this wonderful, traditional holiday cottage nestled down a small lane. Jemima’s Cottage is a very comfortable, two-bedroom property which has a spacious open plan living/dining room with an open fire. There is a small, well-equipped kitchen. On the first floor there is a double bedroom, a bedroom with double bed and single bed and a family bathroom and an area on the landing with Beatrix Potter books and toys ideal for children.

Jemima’s Cottage is located in the heart of the village of Bassenthwaite in the northern region of the Lake District National Park, approximately a 15-minute drive from the towns of Keswick and Cockermouth. This is an excellent base to explore some of the quieter corners of the Lake District near a stream where puddle ducks wander to and fro and swings in a small, wooded area it is only a couple of minutes’ walk to the village pub serving local ales and meals and the village green which is ideal for playing ball games.

Bassenthwaite is 2 miles from the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake (an ideal walk to the only official lake in the Lake District!) and 2 miles from the foot of Skiddaw, the fourth highest mountain in the Lake District. There are excellent walks for all abilities straight from the cottage door or a short drive away. There is a wildlife park in Bassenthwaite, a 5-minute drive from the cottage, and Mirehouse and Gardens is under a 10-minute drive towards Keswick. The Lakes Distillery is under a 10-minute drive towards Cockermouth and offers guided tours.

There are many activities for all ages and abilities in the Lake District and Cumbria, as well as great places to visit and enjoy. Bassenthwaite is almost mid-way between Keswick and Cockermouth, so going either direction has its own benefits. Keswick is a magnet for the Lake District visitor with Derwentwater, several parks including crazy golf, mini golf and putting, shops, cafés, restaurants, galleries, a museum, cinema, theatre, brewery and more. Brook House 1 is a beautiful 17th century, beamed cottage overlooking a stream, with a wood burner, its own enclosed garden and just a couple of minutes’ stroll to the pub serving food and local ales.
