Take a wonderful cruse across the largest lake in the UK over to the popular town of Ambleside. If walking is more of what you are looking for then you are spoilt for choice, with 214 Wainwright fells within easy reach you have plenty of options to choose from. There are also an abundance of cycling routes close by or if you want to go further afield, there are many other popular Lake District towns to explore such as Grasmere and Ulverston. Why not head over to Grange-over-Sands or Cartmel, famous for its sticky toffee pudding, Michelin star restaurant and horse racing. This charming holiday cottage is situated on a quiet corner in the heart of the ancient market town of Ulverston. It offers quick and easy access to the many delights of Ulverston, home to the start of the Cumbria Way, with its old pubs, excellent restaurants and the twice-weekly market which is not to be missed. The Lake District National Park, Eskdale Railway, the World of Beatrix Potter and the Furness Coast are all within easy reach, as well as Lake Windermere and Lake Coniston which are 12 miles away. Ulverston has a wide range of shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs, a cinema and a leisure centre. Today it’s well known as a festival town with events throughout the year, including walking and art festivals in the summer months and the renowned Dickensian festival in late November. One of the town’s great claims to fame is as the birthplace of Stan Laurel. Whilst many Lakeland destinations have been developed beyond recognition, Ulverston still has an authentic feel and community spirit. All of the attractions of the National Park are easily reached. Bardsea and Askam beach are nearby, as is Dalton Zoo and the Dock Museum in Barrow. The Furness Coast boasts sandy beaches and good bird watching. Nearby family attractions include the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Lakes Windermere and Coniston and popular Birkrigg Common, with its incredible panoramic views across Morecambe Bay. The traditional mining village of Dearham has a lot to offer, the local Post Office and shop is just across the road and it has a nearby chippy! If you fancy some pub grub or a rewarding drink after a long day, the village pub is just a five minute walk. Hop in the car and you will reach the town of Maryport in just 2½ miles, home to The Lake District Coast Aquarium as well as Clip ’n’ Climb, a popular climbing adventure attraction. Kids will love Cave at the Wave which features an indoor caving activity, or if you want to boost your adrenaline, you can whizz around the local go-karting track. If culture is your thing you can visit Senhouse Roman Museum or take a trip 4 miles away to Cockermouth. This lovely Cumbrian town is the birthplace of William Wordsworth and offers a delightful town centre with a good mix of bars, restaurants, shops and tourist attractions, and is also home to the famous Jennings’s Brewery. In just 7 miles you will be within the Lake District National Park with its stunning scenery and no end of walking and cycling routes. Or continue on your route another 8 miles to find Bassenthwaite Lake, one of Cumbria’s most stunning lakes with the backdrop of the imposing Skiddaw, a challenge for even the most experienced fell walkers. Wild Duck is a well presented, end-terrace cottage in the quiet village of Swarthmoor, located on the Furness peninsula. The open plan living space provides a comfortable and airy feel, with a large comfy sofa and armchair to relax in - the wood burner is the focal point and a warming welcome on those cooler evenings. A well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to start the day with a hearty breakfast or an evening meal, but with many excellent restaurants nearby you could be very easily tempted out for the evening. Take a trip on the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature steam railway, known to the locals as the ’la ’al ratty’, or visit beautiful Muncaster Castle, home to the World Owl Centre. Whitehaven is only 5 miles away and is filled with popular restaurants and a world-famous port. This area is also part of a site of specific scientific interest as the neighbouring dunes are home to rare animals like the natterjack toad. The surrounding dune grasslands and beach are also very important for birds like Curlews, Oystercatchers, stonechat and many more for breeding and roosting, making this area perfect for nature and bird watchers alike. If your lucky you could even stumble across the submerged forest, dating back over 8000yrs, it is thought to be pine or oak which has been hidden off the coast by the sea.

The cottage itself is very traditional for the area, with many features to show off. There are 4 good sized bedrooms allowing up to 6 people to use the property for their coastal adventure or even just a get-away holiday. With a good sized garden at the rear and towards the sea you will be able to sit out on an evening and watch the sunsets with the coastline just a minutes walk.
