It is 2 miles from Birdoswald Fort on Hadrian’s Wall, and centrally located for the Lake District, Northumberland, the Yorkshire Dales and Scottish Borders. Visit Talkin Tarn, Walltown Crag, Lanercost Priory, Rheged, country shows and farmer’s markets. There are footpaths from the door along with walking and cycle routes throughout the area. Set in beautiful surroundings at New Mills Trout Fishing Park, why not try your hand at fly fishing? The lake is home to rainbow, tiger, blue and brown trout – probably the true fisherman’s ideal holiday destination. For the novice, try your hand at the fun fishing pond and bag yourself that ’I’ve caught my first fish’ experience, with all tuition and equipment provided. Set on the edge of the Blaithwaite Estate, this is the perfect getaway for couples or a small family looking to explore the many wonderful sights and attractions that can be discovered nearby.

Overlooking woodlands and fields, Blaithwaite Cottage is nestled in 80-acres grounds. The patio doors from the living room open out onto a patio area, the perfect place to sit, watch and listen as you take in the many sounds of the neighbouring wildlife. South facing, you will find it hard to pull yourself away from here on a sunny day. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to make a hearty breakfast. Let the dishwasher do all the hard work for you as you head out to start you day. Only 4½ miles from Lake Windermere and Bowness with boutiques, galleries, tea rooms, pubs, water sports and ferries to Hawkshead, Coniston and the Grizedale Forest. Cruisers at Bowness offer trips round the lake taking in the wonderful scenery, calling at Ambleside to the north or Lakeside to the south to visit the fascinating Aquarium of the Lakes.
