Located in the thriving village of Tideswell, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, Acorn Cottage is a spacious, end-terraced property in an elevated position. It benefits from a beautiful raised garden complete with a heated summerhouse, just perfect for those summer evenings. A characterful and homely cottage with many original features and oak beams retained. Comfortable and furnished to a very good standard throughout, the living and dining areas have the added luxury of wood burners for warm, cosy winter evenings. The master bedroom benefits from an en-suite arrangement and the luxury of double doors opening directly onto the enclosed garden and sun-trapped patio, a perfect start to the day! Another of the four double bedrooms is located on the level ground floor and has an adjacent shower room, particularly popular for those requiring ease of access.

Famous for its magnificent, 14th-century church, known as ’The Cathedral of the Peak’, Tideswell is a large village set in the midst of glorious countryside. With its dog friendly reputation, it makes an excellent base with traditional pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, delicatessens, butchers, and even a local supermarket. Throughout the year events are held such as the Tideswell Food Festival in May, and Well Dressings and Wakes Week in late June to early July.

There are some stunning walks through Tideswell Dale, where there is a nature reserve that leads out onto the Monsal Trail, a popular Peak District walking and cycling trail. The Limestone Way also passes through, and with it heading south can take you all the way to Rocester on the Staffordshire border, or north to the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton and Mam Tor, which is around 7 miles away. The ever popular market town of Bakewell is home to the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, and can be reached in around 15 minutes, as can Buxton with its Pavilion Gardens and Opera House. For those thrill seekers, Matlock and its stunning cable car ride can be reached in around 30 minutes, and the UK’s biggest amusement park, Alton Towers, is around 45 minutes. Barn Owl Cottage originally started its life as an 18th-century barn which has been thoughtfully converted into a wonderful holiday cottage. The owners have taken great pride in maintaining some original features whilst incorporating all the modern day necessities to make Barn Owl Cottage an incredibly comfortable place to take a holiday to remember. You will find yourself on the owners’ working farm with chickens roaming the garden and footpaths, and enjoying the day to day running of this wonderful working farm. Look to the rear of the barn and you will discover the original ice house which used to serve the nearby Willersley Castle. Clustered around a courtyard, the barn is set in a rural location nestled in the Derwent Valley yet in easy reach of many of Derbyshire’s attractions, particularly nearby Matlock and Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Carsington Water and of course the wonderful Chatsworth House. Acacia Lodge is situated on the meadow, overlooking the marina waters with a full-sized double veranda, facing south and west to ensure both day and evening sun. The interior is furnished with oak and leather furniture and has 3 bedrooms with three single beds and a double bedroom that has access to its own large shower and en-suite facilities, and with a baby travel cot. The lodge is approached by a tarmac footpath with a slight incline, thereby removing the need for any steps to access the Lodge or veranda. There is a TV in each room and ipod clock radio for your use. Also, there is a smart DVD player/recorder with internet Wi-Fi for your enjoyment (Wi-Fi codes sold separately), and a 3D 42” TV.
The living/dining/kitchen room includes all the usual appliances, with the added benefit of a separate washing machine and dryer. Acacia Lodge is wheelchair accessible with toilet aids and shower seat and meets National Accessible Scheme M2 - Typically suitable for a person with restricted walking ability and for those who may need to use a wheelchair (please note, the en-suite shower room will not fit a wheelchair). Also, on offer for use around the marina is a wheelchair.
Nestled in the award-winning largest inland marina in Europe, this really is the perfect base to explore all that the local area has to offer. Why not take advantage of the Boardwalk, a promenade of 6 boutique retailers, centred around a fabulous two storey bar and restaurant. From here you front onto a raised wooden walkway offering terrific views of the water, boats, and wildlife. You will also discover a sensory garden at the end of The Boardwalk to sit and relax and watch the world go by.
Close by Findern is a lovely village situated about six miles west of Derby. The village green is overlooked by All Saints Parish Church where a carved semi-circular stone or ’tympanum’ discovered when the previous Norman Church was demolished in 1862, is preserved. There are great walks in the area and it is a great base to explore the Peak District with its market towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne, as well as its many pretty villages. Also, the National Trust properties of Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall and Sudbury Hall with its museum of childhood are all within 10 miles.
A little further is the National Trust owned Hardwick Hall, and the Duke of Devonshire’s Chatsworth Estate with its annual country fair and Adventure Farm for children. The National Memorial Arboretum and the rich heritage of Burton-on-Trent with its fantastic National Brewery Centre Museum is just down the road. You can also venture into the National Forest with the award-winning Conkers attraction just 10 miles away, plus Castle Donnington racetrack is just 20 minutes’ drive and Alton Towers is 30 minutes’ away. In the pretty village of Middleton-by-Wirksworth, close to the High Peak Trail and near to Wirksworth, Cromford, Matlock, Matlock Bath and Carsington Water, the location is second to none! There are also many fantastic walks available direct from the door for those who enjoy exploring on foot. Cromford nestles in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site and is home to the Arkwright Museum. On site there is a wonderful shopping outlet as well as the working mills showing how the textiles were produced years ago. A couple of miles away you will discover Carsington Water offering watersports and cycle hire as well as an excellent visitors centre with a restaurant and coffee shop. Heritage enthusiasts will enjoy the Ecclesbourne Valley railways in nearby Wirksworth, and the fabulous Tramway Museum in Crich along the valley. Climbers are spoilt for choice with the Gritstone Black Rocks a short walk away, and the superb limestone crags nearby to explore. Let’s not forget the amazing stately homes and gardens dotted around this beautiful area to explore, such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall to name but a few. Cunliffe Cottage is a wonderfully bright and extremely spacious ground floor cottage, just 1 mile from the centre of Hathersage in the stunning Hope Valley. Beautifully refurbished in 2020, the cottage can be found at the end of a private drive on the friendly owner’s working farm and with the owners living adjacent. Benefitting from underfloor heating, three bedrooms, two of which are en-suite and a further bathroom, and stunning views over the surrounding countryside, it really does make for a luxury rural break. You’ll also find ample private parking and an enclosed patio with seating area to relax, take stock and simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Hathersage is a large, busy village in the heart of the Peak District National Park, and has associations with both Robin Hood and the Brontës. It is home to a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as, quite uniquely, a seasonal outdoor heated swimming pool. Centrally located, the neighbouring village of Bamford is just over 1 mile away, Hope 3 miles and then the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton is just under 5 miles away. The fascinating plague village of Eyam is around a 15 minute drive; Bakewell and Chatsworth House are around 20 minutes away. Hathersage, Bamford and Hope all have their own train stations connecting you to the bright lights of Sheffield and Manchester. An area popular with lovers of the great outdoors, you’ll find ample walking, cycling and climbing available. Stanage and Burbage Edge are both nearby and reward you with superb views of the Dark Peak moorlands. Directly from the property you can enjoy stunning country walks in many different directions, including an ever popular hike up to the Lumsdale Falls making this the ideal base for those who enjoy the outdoors. Matlock Bath is a well known resort on the River Derwent. Visit the popular Heights of Abraham cable cars, enjoy fish and chips, and numerous entertainments throughout the year. The Matlock Bath illuminations and firework display are especially popular in autumn bringing in the crowds and lighting up the sky. A little further afield, Chatsworth House and Bakewell provide a wonderful day out, exploring the local businesses that line the streets. The location and property really are second to none and the perfect place for a break at any time of the year.

Carr View (Ref UK36953) is one of two holiday properties finished to an extremely high standard and the owner takes great pride in ensuring you have the perfect stay. On the ground floor you will enter into the boot room, which has a neatly placed washing machine in a cupboard, kick your boots off and enter into the beautifully designed open plan kitchen which has all you need to enjoy your self-catering holiday with the dining room which has ample seating for six guests made up of chairs and a bench. The living room is very cosy with comfy sofas and an electric wood burner to bring a wonderful sense of relaxation to the room. Upstairs are three bedrooms, all with zip and link beds that can be made into twins on request, the master bedroom has a slightly larger bed and an en-suite. The family bathroom carries the same quality as the rest of the house and has been done beautifully, with walk in shower and bath.
Outside is a garden with a patio area and lawn, perfect to watch the sun rise and set. There is also a river running through the site, and a lake giving the opportunity for some cold water wild swimming!
The helpful owners, that live on-site, are on hand should you need anything, and provide luxury towels, complimentary toiletries, a welcome pack and even a Christmas tree for holidays throughout December.
There are electric car charging points just 5 minutes away in The Anglers Rest pub car park, and just 10 minutes away in the Hope village car park.
