Nearby Combe Martin has a beach which is great for rock pooling at low tide and the village has a good range of shops and pubs.
There are numerous attractions within easy reach of the property, including the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Watermouth Castle and the Lynton to Lynmouth cliff railway. At Croyde and Woolacombe you will find some of the best and cleanest surf beaches in the country as well as many smaller coves and bays. Exmoor is a short distance away where, on a clear day, the views can be spectacular. Highlights on Exmoor include Withypool, Tarr Stepps and Dunkery Beacon. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knightshayes and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Great Torrington as well as horse riding, fishing and golf, all available locally. The wild beauty of Dartmoor and Exmoor are close by and the famous Eden Project is an easy drive for a great day out. Little Meadow is perfect for those looking for a holiday within Dartmoor National Park. Located in the pretty moorland village of Hexworthy, this cottage is perfect for small families or couples, especially those wanting to take their dog. This detached cottage sits within its own grounds and has a small stream to one side of the garden.

The cottage is a short walk away from the local pub which serves good food. From Little Meadow, access to the moor is easy. The West Dart River runs through the village and there are some magical spots for picnicking and having a paddle in the river, as well as a number of wonderful walks to be had directly from the cottage, following along the river and up onto Dartmoor.

During your stay, there is much to see and do. Just up the road is the curious world of Pixieland, a visitor attraction/garden gnome manufacturer! Widecombe-in-the-Moor boasts two excellent, characterful pubs serving locally sourced food, the world-famous church known as ‘Cathedral on the Moors’, a National Trust shop, a post office, gift shops and several tea rooms. Castle Drogo, a National Trust property, is the last castle to have been built in England.

Within 40 miles are the two picturesque villages of Chagford and Moretonhampstead, with historic inns, excellent pubs, tea rooms, curiosity shops, tennis courts and the Miniature Pony Centre. Or, perhaps pay a visit to Princetown with its famous gaol and visitors centre. The market towns of Tavistock and Ashburton offer a very good variety of shops and local amenities. Within 20 miles are Bigbury-on-Sea and Dawlish, with a beach and nature reserve. Slapton Sands and Torcross are 22 miles away, or Torquay which is within easy reach. The owner’s private smallholding adjacent includes a large organic vegetable plot and greenhouse, chickens, geese, ducks, cats and a dog. They have instituted a rolling management of hedges to encourage all kinds of wildlife and have positioned owl, bat, bird and nature boxes. They have also created covered shelters and small ponds for amphibians around the shared meadow. Guests are encouraged to use the owl observatory to enjoy the local wildlife and take advantage of the sunsets and dark skies to star gaze on clear evenings.

There are many lovely coastal villages to explore including nearby Bucks Mills, Peppercombe, Clovelly, with its donkey transport, and Hartland. Just a short drive from the secluded, dog friendly, sand and shingle beach in the tiny clifftop hamlet of Bucks Mills, one of the most beautiful villages in North Devon, a secluded hidden gem with pretty white washed cottages speckled along a wooded valley at the end of a no through road. Storage for cycles, surfboards and kayaks, and access to an outdoor water supply and a drying area, are provided at the properties to help those looking for more active holiday pursuits.

The pretty village of Woolfardisworthy (Woolsery) is just 2 miles away and has a well stocked village store and post office for your daily essentials. There is also a popular village inn and adjacent fish and chip shop which serves delicious home cooked food, perfect for an evening out or an evening in with fish and chips. The beach at Westward Ho! is just 13 miles away and is renowned for its beauty. It has 2 miles of sandy beach known as the Golden Bay and is popular with surfers. Nearby Bideford has restaurants and town amenities, along with boat trips to Lundy Island, or hire a bike and explore the Tarka Trail. It’s ideal for walkers as there are numerous footpaths from the front door, or head up onto Dartmoor National Park for more challenging walking. During your stay, a visit to Tavistock, the historic port of Plymouth, and the interesting Morwellham Quay all make for a great day out.
