A cosmopolitan town, Totnes, 7 miles away, has a vast array of independent shops, weekly markets, galleries, leisure centre and many lovely restaurants, bistros and cafés. The seaside towns of Paignton and Torquay are 40 minutes’ drive, and it is just a 15-minute drive to the yachting haven of Dartmouth, and the coastline between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, both 7 miles away, has many stunning beaches, hidden coves and fantastic coastal walks.

Guests of these cottages can also enjoy a range of on-site facilities suitable for all the family, including a heated indoor swimming pool (available via a booking system) with a private changing room and shower. There is a large games room set over two floors, including a fitness room with a cross trainer, treadmill, rowing machine and exercise bike. The top floor of the games room has a full-size American pool table, big sofa and Sky TV. The bottom floor has table tennis and table football. On-site there is also a laundry and ironing room. Discounted rates are available for children and adults during the school holidays (booking by arrangement and on arrival), providing children and adults with the opportunity to experience the ultimate, two-wheel off-road adventure for the first time. The instructors at Wheeldon Farm are all ACU accredited and will guide the children through their paces every step of the way. For some activities, all the kit, clothing, boots, gloves, helmets and fun bikes are provided. All that’s needed is the enthusiasm to have a great deal of fun! Fabulous waterside views can be enjoyed from this stunning house which is literally a stone’s throw from the beach - an ideal all year round hideaway. Furnished in a New England style, the well-appointed holiday cottage adjoins another property and is a stylish retreat for family and friends. The grand drawing room at first floor level has French doors opening onto the balcony and is the perfect spot to sit and watch the myriad of boats bobbing in the water or sailing by at high tide. There is also a small kennel for a dog in the courtyard.
Instow is an unspoilt seaside village with large stretches of sandy beaches and dunes, fishermen’s cottages, shops and a good selection of pubs and restaurants specialising in locally caught seafood whilst the local village store and delicatessen is a delight. The area is a must for watersports, sailing enthusiasts and fishermen, whilst walkers and cyclists will enjoy the famous Tarka Trail which passes close by.
Further afield, the rugged North Devon coastline and wonderful surfing beaches of Croyde or Woolacombe are just a short drive away. North Devon is well positioned for visits to Exmoor, Dartmoor and North Cornwall including the local beauty spots of Bucks Mill, Clovelly and Hartland. With so much to explore in this lovely part of North Devon, this is the perfect base for a memorable holiday. Golf is available locally, and Bideford is just 3 miles away, with family attractions including The Big Sheep and The Milky Way adventure parks. High in the Devon hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries Webbery Manor Estate is an oasis of rural tranquillity. Steeped in history and with several noteworthy owners, Webbery Manor Estate was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was given to Nicholas the Crossbowman, by a grateful William the Conqueror as a Saxon manor. In the 17th century it passed to the Lippincott family, one of whom set sail with the Mayflower flotilla to settle in America. In the 18th century, John Cutcliffe, the grandson of the owner, fought at the battle of Waterloo and was personally promoted by the Duke of Wellington.
Set in 30 acres of parkland and woods, with grazing sheep, deer, owls, pheasant, birds of prey and other wildlife. The delightful gardens have numerous specimen trees and banks of rhododendrons giving a spectacular spring display. While the organic walled kitchen gardens grow some more unusual varieties of vegetables to the UK. An ideal spot for most watersports and sea-fishing can be enjoyed here, or alternatively local boat trips are available. For those wishing to sample the local food, plenty of pubs and restaurants can be found in Instow and the speciality is seafood, of course.
The famous ‘Tarka Trail’, just on the doorstep, is perfect for walkers and cyclists and follows the estuary towards Braunton and is a lovely way to experience the delights that this area has to offer. On the opposite side of the estuary is Appledore, a pretty unspoilt village with a wealth of painted fishermen’s cottages, found up narrow winding streets, some of which date back as far as 1335. Famous for its maritime history and arts there is a maritime museum and numerous arts and crafts shops. Just a short drive away, visitors will find a substantial and popular surfing beach and golf courses at famous Westward Ho! Within 2 miles is Bideford with its historic port and lively market as well as regular boat trips to nearby Lundy Island. The Dartington Crystal factory and RHS gardens at Rosemoor are easily accessible, as is a wealth of National Trust properties including Tapely Park and Hartland Abbey, to name a few. Situated within a SSSI, this detached holiday barn is situated within the glorious coastline of the South Hams, close to Wembury Bay marine conservation area. St Werburgh’s Church, standing on the headland above Wembury Beach, is in the most stunning location. From here you can follow the coastal footpath and catch the water taxi to Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo. Mount Batten for water sports and yachting is just 5 minutes away. Langdon Barton can also offer secure boat parking. The city of Plymouth is just 7 miles away, and in recent years has gone through a face lift with its new shopping mall and regenerated waterfront areas.
