The Lodge on the Beach is a two bedroomed log cabin set in probably one of the most stunning and truly unique locations in South West Scotland. Nestled on the shores of Auchenmalg Bay on an eight acre plot and just yards from your door is the family friendly beach. The Lodge on the Beach is ideally placed to explore the wider and unspoilt area of South West Scotland if you can drag yourself away. A very short stroll along the beach takes you to a delightful country pub and restaurant if you don’t want to cook after your day out exploring. A few minutes away by car is Glenluce, where there is a local shop selling essentials and 20 minutes away Stranraer offers a greater range of shops including Supermarkets. This area of Dumfries and Galloway boasts rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches as well as inland forests and hills making walking a delight and for the cyclists the world famous 7Stanes mountain biking trails are close by at Kirroughtree. The Lodge on the Beach is an ideal base for a Golfing Holiday. With Wigtownshire County Club less than ten minutes from the Lodge, and South West Scotland boasts twenty three Golf courses. The icing on the cake is that just over an hour away there is Turnberry.
Along the coast is the lovely little village of Port William, known as the “Machars of Galloway” and of course you must go and find “The Man” and get a photograph with him. As well as Port William, you can also explore quaint villages such as Sandhead, Portpatrick and the Isle of Whithorn. A must is a visit to Wigtown, which is famous for being Scotland’s National Book Town, a book lovers haven. The Mull of Galloway, Scotland’s most southerly point and home to the RSPB nature reserve, where thousands of seabird’s nests on the cliff face during spring and summer is definitely worth a visit. Nestled in the Girthon Valley and surrounded by some of the best scenery in Galloway, with great walks, both woodland and coastal. The area also offers a wide range of activities for the whole family to enjoy, be it visiting the local ice cream factory, Cream O’ Galloway at Sandgreen, CocoaBean Chocolate Factory at Twynholm or why not visit Laggan Outdoors, which has one of the longest zip wires in Europe. There are many exciting and beautiful cycle paths straight from your door or try the world famous 7Stanes challenge. There is an abundance of local lochs and rivers if fishing is preferred! There is something for everyone in this beautiful unspoilt corner of Scotland. Situated on the 6000-acre Lincluden Estate, these three detached properties are presented to the highest standards. They are located in remote settings on the edge of the moors with delightful woodland walks and hillside trails up into forests. It is an area hugely popular with walkers and cyclists of all abilities, and the Dalbeattie 7 Stanes cycling trail is also close by. There are many sandy beaches and forest trails to explore and many lovely gardens nearby as well for those seeking a slower pace of recreation.
The surrounding area offers a tremendous range of activities for the visitor. Golf courses, sailing, horse riding, cycling and walking are all available close by, and there are tennis courts and swimming-pools in nearby Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and Dumfries. Fishing is available by arrangement at Glen Kiln Loch with the first day free of charge (any days after are chargeable at £8 per adult and £4 per child/OAP). Many quaint villages await exploration including the coastal villages of the Isle of Whithorn, Port William (known as the Machars of Galloway and presented with the Pride of Galloway award) and the popular village of Portpatrick with stunning views over the North Channel to the Irish coast. A trip to Ireland from Stranraer also makes for a good day out. Dumfries, with shops, restaurants, museums and theatre, lies 10 miles away, while Castle Douglas, Scotland’s Food Town (8 miles), is a traditional market town with shops specialising in local produce. There are also many beautiful beaches for holidaymakers to enjoy. Shop 5 miles, pub 5½ miles.

This charming detached, single-storey cottage, with a beautiful garden, is situated only yards from the shore in the small hamlet of Kirkandrews. It is surrounded by stunning views over open countryside and only a couple of miles from the village of Borgue, with a local pub and restaurant. The nearest supermarket is 7½ miles away which offers a reliable delivery service.
Gullieside Cottage is situated only a short drive from the pretty harbour town of Kirkcudbright, locally known as the artists town, with many festivals throughout the year, including Scottish nights, classic car rallies, historic walks, a medieval fayre, a jazz festival and a spectacular Tattoo, as well as a good selection of pubs and restaurants. There is a large variety of outdoor pursuits on offer, including fishing, horse riding in Galloway Forest Park, cycling, golf and water sports. Threave Garden and Estate, owned by the National Trust, proves to be a popular visitor attraction. Dumfries is approximately 33 miles east and Castle Douglas, 16 miles, making this a wonderful base to tour South West Scotland. Beach 150 yards. Shop 7½ miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Morton Mains Steading Cottage is a little gem of a cottage set in a peaceful rural location in beautiful Dumfries and Galloway, yet only a few miles from the lovely town of Thornhill. Morton Mains Steading Cottage has a delightful outlook over a picturesque pond and open farmland. The real hub of Morton Mains Steading is the stunning kitchen/dining room where the whole family can come together and enjoy meals chatting over the day’s events. The sitting room is warm and cosy with a lovely wood burne and the bedrooms all boast comfy beds. Morton Mains Steading Cottage will delight guests young and old. Whilst the cottage offers you a tranquil setting, it is only a short drive from many attractions and amenities in the area. Drumlanrig Castle along with its 90,000 acre estate is a fabulous day out and only a 10 minute drive away. Visit the castle and take a tour or just enjoy the grounds where you can try one of the championship mountain biking trails or you can just relax with a day’s fishing on the river. There are numerous activities for kids from the adventure playground (restricted opening) to ranger-led wildlife walks.

Further afield in this beautiful corner of Dumfries and Galloway, there are attractions in abundance from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic cliff tops along the majestic Solway Coast. A visit to Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wild reserve is a must! With sailing, swimming, horse riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone. A must is a trip to the Galloway Forest Park, one of the darkest places in the UK at night, in fact the UKs first Dark Sky Park.

A visit to this area of south west Scotland would not be complete without a day trip to the rugged coastline and seaside, with visits to the quaint villages and towns such as Kippford, Sandyhills, Southerness and Kirkcudbright.

What a little gem of a cottage! The Haven is an absolute joy and has been completely refurbished in 2020, offering the most delightful accommodation. You really will not be disappointed when you walk through the door. The living room has a lovely wood burner and the kitchen/dining room are both modern and spacious, yet retain a lovely cottage feel. You will be spoilt for choice at The Haven, whether to sink into the deep bath or enjoy the dark skies in the garden from your very own hot tub. The garden to the rear can be accessed from the kitchen with seven steps leading down from the balcony and the garden is enclosed.
From The Haven some of you may be in heaven again, as 200 yards along the road is Bladnoch Distillery, which has a large visitor shop and offers guided tours. Just across the road from the Distillery is a lovely country pub and restaurant. Only a mile away is Wigtown, known as Scotland’s book town, which provides a variety of shops, galleries, tea rooms and a pub.

Sitting on a quiet country lane only ½ a mile from Gatehouse of Fleet you can take a wander into town and sample the food at the popular local restaurants or just meander through the town and visit the Mill on the Fleet and certainly Cardoness Castle which sits proudly at the entrance to the town. Set in a National Scenic Area and on the edge of the magnificent Galloway Forest Park there are a host of activities to keep all the family entertained with numerous coastal walks, beautiful beaches and forest trails. Cyclists are particularly well catered for with a magnitude of quite country lanes and the Galloway Forest Park is home to several of the world famous 7Stanes mountain bike trails. Beach 3½ miles.
