Located less than 10 minutes away from the picturesque coastline, this delightful, detached barn is great for couples - whether it be for a full week’s holiday or a short break. Brook Bay can be found moments away on the unspoiled south west coast of the island. The beach is made up of golden sands, and is great for many activities, from cricket on the beach, to kite and wind-surfing for the more adventurous. One of the beach’s more unique features is the fossilised forest of huge trees which appears from beneath the waves at Hanover Point at low tide, it’s definitely worthwhile booking a tour on the beach to see the dinosaur footprints in the sandstone ledge.
The island has become a real hot spot for cycling enthusiasts with a choice of challenging off road bridleways, peaceful byways and level purpose-made tracks running along its former railway lines. Cycle to the famous Needles landmark or take on the full round the island route, which is 66 miles long and is used for the annual Isle of Wight Randonnee. You can also travel along the route at a more leisurely pace and along the way you will find numerous restaurants, pubs and cafés amongst the quaint villages and towns serving tasty local produce. This delightful first-floor apartment, with views out towards the estuary at Appledore, makes an ideal destination for a holiday. Located just down the road from the popular coastal village of Instow, there is plenty to do and see during your stay. Instow is a pretty village with two shops, eateries and pubs, and all within easy walking distance. The wonderful beach with its lovely sand dunes is ideal for all ages and has its own appeal at most times of year. The town of Bideford is a short journey away, with a range of facilities, and a trip to Lundy Island can be organised from the quayside. Westward Ho! (3 miles) has a long stretch of sand and good surf. There is also an indoor swimming pool at Northam (2½ miles). The house is ideally located to explore either Exmoor to the east and its surrounding attractions, or to the west, there is the North Cornish/Devon coastline, with its excellent walking and hidden treasures, like Clovelly, Bucks Mill and Hartland Quay. The Big Sheep farm park, The Milky Way activity park, Dartington Crystal and RHS Rosemoor are other places of interest to visit. The many caves along the rocky shore were a haven for smugglers of contraband. Flamborough village has a useful assortment of shops, takeaways and pubs serving local seafood specialities and a range of cask ales. The famous RSPB nesting bird colony at Bempton Cliffs is just 2½ miles away with unrivalled views of puffins, guillemots and kittiwakes. The traditional seaside resorts of Bridlington, 5 miles, Filey, 11 miles and Scarborough, 18 miles are easily accessible. Nearby Sewerby Hall has fine Georgian, Regency and Victorian rooms, a magnificent 19th century conservatory, beautiful gardens and houses the Museum of East Yorkshire. This stunning area has much to offer with the Heritage coastline being popular with walkers and bird-watchers, and the dramatic beach at Hartland Quay is just 2 miles away. The famous surfing beaches of Westward Ho! and Bude are an easy drive and for family fun, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way adventure parks are close by. There are numerous National Trust properties in the area, as well as the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Docton Mill. Hartland Abbey is well worth a visit, along with the lighthouse at Hartland Point and even the shipwreck museum at Hartland Quay. Seagulls enjoys far-reaching, spectacular views across the Blakeney salt-marshes from full-length windows in the first floor living room. It is set at the end of a quiet no-through road with a secluded garden. Over the road is the village playing field with tennis courts. Inside, the house is warm, convenient and attractive - practical for families with children, yet well-furnished to be relaxing and comfortable for the older generation. The well-equipped retro kitchen leads to the dining room which boasts a cosy wood burner.
Blakeney Quay is a short walk past the village shop (with bacon for the ever-obliging crabs). From here is access to the marsh or up to the village. Blakeney is a bird-watcher’s paradise; the coastal path runs in front of the house, there are seals at Blakeney Point, and it is surrounded by beautiful countryside walks. The historic little town of Holt is close by and offers a range of shops, pubs, restaurants, cafés and weekly markets. Within a few minutes’ drive is Holt Lowes, an area renowned for wildlife, designated as both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation. Also worth a visit is Holt Country Park with its wealth of bird life, as well as other RSPB reserves. The region has several stately homes such as NT Blickling and Felbrigg Halls, Holkham Hall and Houghton Hall. Other interesting days out include visits to Sheringham Park, and Walsingham Shrine and Priory ruins. Sheringham offers golf and is home to the North Norfolk Steam Railway, Splash aqua pool, a promenade and a pier. Within easy driving distance is Norwich with its excellent shopping, restaurants, cathedral, theatre, pubs, cinema and markets. Wells-next-the-Sea is 5 miles and Holkham’s vast sandy beach is just 8 miles. Windsurfing, dinghy launching, sailing and boat trips are all available locally. Shops 100 yards.

Within 2 miles of the famous Chesil Beach and World Heritage Jurassic Coast and between West Bay and Portland Bill, this Grade II 13th-century stone tithe barn, situated in Litton Cheney on a working farm, has been restored and extended to provide excellent detached character accommodation for 19 guests, in this sought after part of West Dorset. It offers a great location for enjoying this holiday area, and boasts nine en-suite bedrooms (five doubles, one with an additional single, and four twins), each with TV, and a large kitchen, ideal for self catering with a large group. There is even the added benefit of a self-service bar, so you can keep your friends and family entertained throughout the evening. The original stone barn, now a very impressive vaulted and beamed living/dining room, comfortably accommodates eighteen. There is plenty of room for all; guests can relax and unwind in the large garden, the children can play in the games room equipped with pool table, there is fishing (by arrangement with the owner) in the 2-acre coarse fishing lake, or simply wander down to the village pub to wine and dine, or enjoy some glorious country walking.
Within a few minutes’ drive is Chesil Beach at Burton Bradstock which stretches for 17 miles from Portland to West Bay and is a unique shingle ridge and natural beauty spot. The pebbles on the beach are said to increase in size from east to west, the largest being at Portland where a centre for wind and kitesurfing can also be found. West Bexington and Abbotsbury are a short drive away with opportunities for swimming and fishing. Abbotsbury is home to the swannery which is a popular family attraction for holidaymakers and where visitors can walk amidst colonies of nesting mute swans in a natural wildlife habitat. Originally established by Benedictine monks who built a monastery at Abbotsbury, the swannery was used to provide food for their banquets and has been featured in films including Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The Abbotsbury Sub-tropical Gardens, which were established in the 1700s by the Countess of Ilchester, are another place of interest to visit. Magnolia and camelia collections are of particular note as well as rhododendrons and hydrangeas; a gift shop, restaurant and plant centre complete the facilities for a good day out. There is much to see and do in Dorset for families, especially at Weymouth, a short drive away, which offers many attractions including the Sea Life Museum, or visit Dorchester with its many attractions and shops. Further afield, family days out include Wool with its Tank Museum and Monkey World, or admire the natural arch of Durdle Door and the almost circular cove of Lulworth on the way to Wareham and the Isle of Purbeck. To the west one can see the magnificent World Heritage Coast and visit West Bay, Eype, Charmouth and of course the ever popular seaside resort of Lyme Regis, with its pretty harbour and Cobb. A cosy property tucked along a quiet country lane overlooking the historical village of Tintagel, with sea views from the living room, bedroom and kitchen windows. Located about a mile from a long sandy beach and the centre of Arthurian legends at Tintagel, this single-storey stable conversion offers cosy holiday accommodation. The front of the property has a small, fenced garden with a bench and view towards the ocean, whilst at the rear of the property is a cosy patio garden area. Within easy reach are many little coves, the ruins of Tintagel Castle and Celtic monastery remains – with two little beaches far below connected by Merlin’s Cave. Lovely walks in nearby wooded St Nectan’s Glen, by a tumbling stream and waterfall, and in Rocky Valley, where a rock bears intricate Bronze Age carvings. Camelford 5 miles. This beautifully appointed, two-bedroom holiday cottage, which is part of a former lifeboat station and Grade II listed, is located right on the waterfront looking out across to West Cowes and the Solent. It combines the heritage of the coastguard’s boat house (where the life boats were stored) with modern architectural design, offering a bright and airy space, with exposed beams and high vaulted ceilings.
The property is 20 yards from a public slipway, so if guests had a small boat, this could be stored at the property and launched via the slipway straight out into the Medina Estuary and then onto the Solent.
The Boathouse accommodation is on the ground floor and there are lovely walks along the esplanade just outside the property. There is a large, beamed open-plan living space with two sets of patio doors leading out onto the enclosed lawned garden with waterside views. The first cosy bedroom has a kingsize bed an en-suite bathroom, whilst the second bedroom has twin beds.
There is a park nearby with a children’s play area and The Needles, its with chair lift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay, is also within easy reach. Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK, is nearby, and other attractions include Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Isle of Wight Pearl, Dinosaur Isle, a donkey sanctuary and Calbourne Water Mill, which has a 17th-century working watermill. Osborne House and Gardens (Queen Victoria’s holiday residence), Carisbrooke Castle and the sailing town of Yarmouth are worthy of a visit.
Cowes in the north west of the island is renowned for its sailing. Also within easy reach are vineyards and quaint villages, some with thatched roofs, such as Godshill, Old Shanklin and Brighstone. Outdoor pursuits include scenic walking, horse riding, fishing, cycling, water sports and golf. The island can be explored from the open-top buses that stop regularly at various collection points.
