    Kirkby Lonsdale is a small and relatively unspoilt market town situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Kirkby Lonsdale itself is a historic, quaint market town with a growing reputation for high quality independent shopping, as well as excellent restaurants, cafés and bars. The town is notably home to the 14th century Devil’s Bridge, as well as Ruskin’s View. With so much to see and do in the area, you can choose to keep yourself busy or perhaps simply relax and enjoy the peace and beauty that Kirkby Lonsdale has to offer.
    Ingleton, set within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is a 20-minute drive away. If you’re feeling energetic, join the famous waterfalls trail or explore the Whitescar Caves. There’s an abundance of pubs, cafés, bars and restaurants there too, including a cosy and quirky microbar. The Lake District National Park and Lancaster are 30 minutes’ away. Beach 13 miles.     Brook House Holiday Cottages are located in the heart of Bassenthwaite village in the northern region of The Lake District National Park, Cumbria, approximately 15-minute drive from the towns of Keswick and Cockermouth. This is an excellent base to explore some of the quieter corners of the Lake District. Bassenthwaite village is 2 miles from the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake (an ideal walk to the only official lake in the Lake District) and 2 miles from the foot of Skiddaw, the fourth highest mountain in the Lake District. There are excellent walks for all abilities straight from the cottage door or after a short drive away.
    The Lake District Wildlife Park is just a 5-minute drive from the cottage, while Mirehouse historic house and adventure playgrounds is under 10 minutes drive towards Keswick.
    The Lakes Distillery is under 10 minutes drive towards Cockermouth offering guided tours, or for those wanting to treat themselves with some pampering, there is a spa just 5 minutes drive from the cottage. Keswick is a magnet for the Lake District visitor with Lake Derwentwater, several parks including crazy golf, mini golf and putting, all its outdoor shops, cafés, restaurants, galleries, museum, cinema, theatre, brewery and more. Cockermouth has a visitor centre, antique shops, Jennings Brewery, Wordsworth House (the birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth), the annual food festival in September and a good selection of unique independent shops and eateries. Nearest shops in Keswick or Cockermouth, 15 minutes drive or many supermarkets do on-line deliveries, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

    Staveley Park is a detached, Grade II listed property, set in its own grounds and offering spectacular views of the nearby woods, fells and countryside. Sleeping up to eight guests, it has four bedrooms. The second floor has a twin room with exposed beams and a contemporary en-suite shower room. On the first floor, the master bedroom features a four-poster super kingsize bed and an en-suite bathroom with bath and lovely garden views. Two further spacious bedrooms have kingsize beds and pleasant views to the grounds, whilst the main family bathroom offers a separate bath and walk-in shower. The ground floor features two spacious living rooms with windows providing great views and each has a lovely wood burner for those cosy evenings. The kitchen is well-equipped and comes with everything you need for a great holiday. There is also a handy utility area, fully equipped with washing machine and tumble dryer. Outside you’ll find an amazing, private garden and a terrace with garden furniture. You can enjoy the sunshine in the morning with a coffee or some al fresco dining with a glass of wine while enjoying the fresh air and views of the grounds. The garden is fully enclosed by a stone wall/hedges and there are three gates, all of them wooden farm gates, which can be kept shut. There are numerous easy and more strenuous walks possible from the front door.

    Staveley is a lovely, working and historic village with a celebrated gastro-pub and the Hawkshead Brewery, with good food available in both as well as in the much-loved café and the fish and chip shop. There is a grocer, a butcher, an award-winning baker and pizzeria, an artisan ice cream maker, a coffee roaster, a cycle super-store, a garage, a railway station and more. Here the River Gowan flows through the village and meets the River Kent, which provides a peaceful backdrop to the main street. Staveley is located just 12 miles off the M6, 4.5 miles from Kendal and 3.5 miles to Windermere and the popular tourist magnet of Bowness-on Windermere, offering a wide range of restaurants and gastropubs serving every possible type of cuisine you could want, from takeaway food to fine dining. You’ll find there an abundance of bars and pubs offering locally produced ales, cocktails and guest craft beers. Here you can take the Windermere steamers to Lakeside at the Southern point of the Lake and Ambleside in the North. You’ll also find several popular tourist attractions including The Beatrix Potter Attraction, which is great fun, or Brockhole where older children can enjoy a treetop safari on the high ropes.
