Situated on the end of a row of three and boasting stunning countryside views to the rear, Tree Tops is located on the edge of Youlgreave village and enjoys a patio area that catches the sun well in the evening. Built on a ridge between the Lathkill and Bradford Rivers, Youlgreave is one of the larger Peak District villages, with the narrow village street running for about one and a half miles. Served by a variety of pubs and a couple of shops, it makes a great base for outdoor enthusiasts and sightseers alike with walks available direct from the door in the Lathkill and Bradford Dales. The market towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne, Matlock and Wirksworth with their variety of attractions, shops, coffee shops and restaurants are all available within a 30 minute drive. For the history enthusiasts, the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are around 15 minutes away. The Monsal Trail for traffic-free cycling can also be reached in around 15 minutes, and for those bigger thrill seekers, Alton Towers in around 45 minutes.

For lovers of the great outdoors, Nield Bank Bungalow, standing detached, offers an idyllic picturesque location, with the final approach to the cottage taking you directly to the centre of the fabulous White Peak countryside. An abundance of walking is available direct from the doorstep, including to the village of Flash (the highest village in England), where you can embark on the Three Shires Heads route, where the counties of Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire meet.

Although a truly rural location and perfect for getting away from it all, the spa town of Buxton, famous for its water and opera house, is just 5 miles away. A friendly local shop and pub serving food is less than a mile away, and a number of other Peak District towns and villages are easily accessible, including Longnor with its quaint cobbled market square which is just a 10-minute drive. The ever popular villages of Hartington, Eyam and Castleton are all easily reachable in around half an hour, as is the busy market town of Bakewell and the Alton Towers theme park. Situated just 5 yards from the River Sett and the Sett Valley Trail, in the charming High Peak village of Hayfield, this end-terrace holiday cottage is perfect throughout the summer months with its multi-tiered garden, or the winter months with its cosy wood burner. Home to plentiful pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants, Hayfield itself is overlooked by the Kinder Scout and is most famous for the backdrop from BBC’s drama ‘The Village’. Incredibly popular with walkers and cyclists, the village has a number of public thoroughfares with the beautiful Sett Valley Trail, Kinder Plateau, Pennine Way and Snake Path all easily accessible.

The surrounding area of the Peak District holds many beautiful towns and villages which are easily reached including the small picturesque village of Edale, home to the start/end of the UK’s first long distance walking path - The Pennine Way. Set in the stunning Hope Valley countryside, the rural hill village of Castleton, famous for its caverns, can be reached in half an hour and Bakewell, home to its namesake pudding and the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, can be reached within 45 minutes’. Horse riding can also be found nearby, and for children, Hayfield Park is ¼ mile which consists of playground, zip line, skateboard ramps and a mini bike track. Abacus House started life out as the local village school in Hackney, Derbyshire. It is believed to date back to 1910. This charming characterful Grade II listed cottage opens its front door onto the open veranda corridor, once having many small feet running along to get to class on time.
Abacus House boasts a very high specification, with a modern stylish kitchen and bathroom, but manages to retain its quirky stylish twists throughout. A large open plan living area leads through to a dining area, still housing the characterful open grate arts and crafts fireplace, and then to the kitchen, with its large feature windows throughout, letting the light flood through the whole of the ground floor. Set within the beautiful area of Matlock, you are within easy reach of one of the most stunning parts of the Peak District. The closest attractions are Matlock and Matlock Bath, giving the opportunity to explore the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom accessed via cable car, and offering spectacular views of the Derwent Valley. From here you can tour the network of caverns and passageways, or walk over 60 acres of woodland hillside. This is an ideal base from which to explore the region’s attractions including the magnificent stately homes. The beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are an absolute must see, or visit the picturesque villages of Bakewell and Ashover (Cardale in TV’s ‘Peak Practice’) which are both close by. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep, plus activities at Carsington Water including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and cycling, plus excellent birdwatching in the surrounding areas.

Barn Owl Cottage originally started its life as an 18th-century barn which has been thoughtfully converted into a wonderful holiday cottage. The owners have taken great pride in maintaining some original features whilst incorporating all the modern day necessities to make Barn Owl Cottage an incredibly comfortable place to take a holiday to remember. You will find yourself on the owners’ working farm with chickens roaming the garden and footpaths, and enjoying the day to day running of this wonderful working farm. Look to the rear of the barn and you will discover the original ice house which used to serve the nearby Willersley Castle. Clustered around a courtyard, the barn is set in a rural location nestled in the Derwent Valley yet in easy reach of many of Derbyshire’s attractions, particularly nearby Matlock and Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Carsington Water and of course the wonderful Chatsworth House. After a hard day exploring all Derbyshire has to offer, relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Barn Owl Cottage.
