Hathersage is a large, busy village in the heart of the Peak District National Park, and has associations with both Robin Hood and the Brontës. It is home to a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as, quite uniquely, a seasonal outdoor heated swimming pool. Centrally located, the neighbouring village of Bamford is just over 1 mile away, Hope 3 miles and then the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton is just under 5 miles away. The fascinating plague village of Eyam is around a 15 minute drive; Bakewell and Chatsworth House are around 20 minutes away. Hathersage, Bamford and Hope all have their own train stations connecting you to the bright lights of Sheffield and Manchester. An area popular with lovers of the great outdoors, you’ll find ample walking, cycling and climbing available. The historic market town of Chesterfield acts as the gateway to the Peak District, and has much to offer visitors. The town is famous for its 14th-century church with its crooked spire twisting curiously from its centre, while the town offers guests the opportunity to explore the market and many of the specialist shops dotted in and out of the shambles. The town also boasts Queens Park, with its lake, walks and summer bandstand, as well as a museum and theatre. Close by you will find the impressive Elizabethan Hardwick Hall, with its six grand towers elaborately monogramed with Bess of Hardwick’s initials, overlooking the superb gardens and walled courtyards of the grounds. Also popular with visitors is the semi-ruined 17th-century mansion of Bolsover Castle, set high on a wooded hilltop, looking west towards the heights of the Peak District.

Dawn Cottage is a warm welcoming family run traditional farm set within the Dovedale region of Peak District National Park, between Ashbourne and Buxton. The owners run a livestock farm, and as well as breeding cows and sheep they also have geese, hens and sheepdogs. This beautiful barn conversion is located on a gentle hillside offering glorious panoramic views over the River Dove and open countryside extending to the Tissington Trail and the Dove Valley.

Bradwell is a large, pretty village with narrow winding streets that are set up a hillside. There are a number of good pubs serving food (most allowing children, dogs and muddy boots), together with a well-stocked convenience store, fish and chip shop, small cafe and locally renowned ice cream shop. Popular with walkers and cyclists, fabulous countryside surrounds the village with various tracks and routes radiating from the area. Mam Tor and Bradwell Edge are probably the most famous local viewpoints and are well worth a visit, with the outstanding breathtaking scenery as a reward. Golf, horse riding, hand gliding, rock climbing, caving and fishing are also available throughout the area.
The beautiful honeypot village of Castleton and the larger village of Tideswell are both around a 10-minute drive away. In nearby Hathersage, also 10 minutes’, you will find excellent amenities together with a seasonal outdoor heated swimming pool. The ever popular market town of Bakewell, Chatsworth House and the spa town of Buxton can all be reached in under half an hour, and for any big (or little) kids, Alton Towers theme park is around an hour away. There are excellent transport links to and from the village with Hope railway station only minutes away, being on the direct line for Manchester and Sheffield. Alternatively, you can jump on the train at Chinley to any of the Hope Valley stations (as well as both Manchester and Sheffield), and make your way back to the village perhaps stopping at the award-winning traditional country pub, which is less than 1 mile from Naze farm, for food and refreshments.
The centre of the Chinley is around 0.5 miles from the property and offers a good range of shops and facilities, with both Hayfield and Chapel-en-le-Frith also just 10 minutes away. Within a 20-minute drive is the spa town of Buxton, together with the beautiful villages of both Castleton and Edale. The fascinating plague village of Eyam and ever ever-evolving market town of Bakewell can be reached in around 30 minutes and Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Holmfirth Vineyard all around 45 minutes. Finally, by prior arrangement the friendly owners who live onsite will take you on a tour of their small holding to meet the quite wonderful and friendly livestock.

The property has a contemporary look, with a spacious living area on the first floor, where the double bedroom can be found. Downstairs, as you enter the property, you are greeted with the kitchen and a shower room, perfect after using the pool. The living area boasts a large cinema screen, which is for guests use, and a great selection of games, books and DVDs.

When spending time outside of the property you will be spoilt for choice, with the numerous seating areas dotted around the property. In an excellent location, Hill Top Cottage is the perfect base for walking and exploring the Peak District. The many attractions in the area include Arkwright Mills, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the lovely market towns of Bakewell and Matlock. The village of Crich, known as Cardale in the hit TV series ‘Peak Practice’ is full of character and history, and boasts a number of shops and several pubs.

There are walks around the village, home to the National Tramway Museum, and trams move up the valley to some of the most beautiful views of the Derbyshire Dales. Matlock, 7 miles away, offers a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as attractions such as Gulliver’s Kingdom.

Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car that takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham, a great place for all the family with its show caves, nature trail, water gardens and Owl Maze.
