From here, you are never very far from the attractions that make north Devon a great holiday destination. The stunning, sandy beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton are a must during your stay where you can learn to surf or hopefully, top up your tan. There are many other coves and bays at Combe Martin, Lee Bay and Hele Bay which are ideal for rock pooling. Towards Lynton and Lynmouth there is dramatic scenery as Exmoor meets the coast, from the plunging cliffs at Countisbury Head to the beauty of the Valley of the Rocks. There is the Victoria Cliff Railway connecting Lynton to Lynmouth and also access to the Southwest Coast Path. At Ilfracombe, there is bustling harbourside and the Tunnels Beaches. The regional town of Barnstaple has a good range of shops and amenities including the must-see historic Pannier market. For some real holiday excitement, a trip to Watermouth Castle, Combe Martin Wildlife Park or the Big Sheep will certainly make somebodies holiday. Sea fishing is available from Princess Pier and Haldon Pier, or from rocks and beaches around the coastline. Going further afield, you can ramble across the wilds of Dartmoor National Park, see the Dartmoor Ponies, and visit places of interest such as Widdecombe, while Totnes and Dartington Hall are less than 30 minutes away. Totnes is an Elizabethan river town with an ancient castle, and Dartington Hall has glorious gardens and world famous arts and music activities, making this an essential place to visit. Dartmouth, Dartmoor, Salcombe, Exeter and Plymouth can all be easily reached. Paignton Zoo is only a mile or so away and there are river and sea cruises, and steam train trips nearby. In addition to this, the South Hams has some of the most beautiful beaches you’ll find anywhere. Whether walking and exploring the rugged Dartmoor landscape with its great granite tors and Dartmoor ponies, climbing, letterboxing, horse riding, golfing, or just having a very relaxing break, Dartmoor has it all.

The Orchard is a well presented spacious bungalow with enviable views over the River Torridge which flows past Bideford joining the Taw Estuary at Instow and out into the Atlantic. The property is accessed via a steep driveway which has ample space for several cars (in a row). Access to the bungalow is either via the steps or convenient ramp leading down to the front door and garden. Inside the accommodation is all on one level and comprises three bedrooms, 2 super kings with zip & link beds (one with an additional 2’6 pull out single and a king size. The main bedroom has an en-suite shower room and lovely river and town views and there’s a family bathroom with a bath and shower cubicle. There’s a comfortable lounge with smart TV, a wood burner and patio doors leading out onto the large decking where you can enjoy the beautiful views and some al-fresco meals, breakfast or an evening drink. Take a trip to Torbay, known as the English Riviera due to its unique micro-climate; take the ferry across to Dartmouth and the neighbouring town of Brixham, set on and across the River Dart. At the mouth of the river are Kingswear and Dartmouth Castles with the rocky waters of the estuary lapping at their feet. Exeter and its stunning cathedral is just a 10-mile drive, and Exeter Racecourse and Haldon are not far away. A nature trail and cycle route can be found in the Forestry Commission, 7 miles. On the Exe estuary itself, midway between the old port of Topsham and the seaside resort of Exmouth, the beautiful sandy beaches and rock pools are at the start of the Jurassic Coast and form part of the South West Coastal Path. The estuary has a picturesque harbour and is a renowned nature reserve, which is a haven for wildlife and migrating birds, a wide range of which can be observed along the edges of the estuary.
Crealy Adventure Park is just 3 miles away, and for cyclists there are many cycle ways, one running from Exmouth, through Lympstone and onto Topsham and the Exeter canal, following the river for most of the way. There are many National Trust properties all waiting to be explored, and Darts Farm, a short distance away, is worth a visit and where you can stop and enjoy a meal. The city of Exeter is within easy reach and has great shopping, a historic cathedral, a theatre and the underground passages attraction.
