Samphire Cottage is a charming house, ideally situated just 200 metres or so from the charming and historic town of Lyme Regis, with its Cobb and beach. The house itself offers generous accommodation, with four bedrooms (one offering sea views), two bathrooms along with separate living room, dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. Outside, the garden is a real suntrap and perfect for enjoying al fresco dining or just relaxing with a cold drink after a day exploring this charming town.
Situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lyme Regis is a sublime location. Charter a fishing boat from the harbour, go fossil hunting or take a walk on the spectacular South West Coastal Path. For something more leisurely, there are a plethora of pubs and restaurants in the town just waiting to be discovered. For nature lovers, the area has some of the most diverse scenery in the country. Lyme Bay sweeps round from the National Nature Reserve on the Dowlands Cliffs in an uninterrupted arc along the huge bank of shingle that is Chesil Beach, all the way to the limestone slab of the Isle of Portland. The 626ft Golden Cap, a breath-taking viewpoint and part of a lovely 2,000-acre National Trust Estate, is the highest point on England’s south coast, and a World Heritage Site. It is an easy drive to Bridport, Honiton, Sidmouth, Exeter and Dorchester, and for families, there are many lovely beaches close at hand, as well as Crealy Theme Park near Exeter. Beach 200 yards.

This comfortable and welcoming, thatched, detached former farmhouse dates back to 1750, and has many features such as beams, low lintels and sloping floors. The main house has two living rooms, a children’s living area and a dining room which seats up to 18. There is also an indoor swimming pool and an external games room, making it ideal for family gatherings and celebrations. The old creamery, located in a separate building, has been converted into an annexe with an additional two en-suite bedrooms, and still has the exposed stone walls and floors! From the farmhouse gardens there are far-reaching views over countryside and rolling hills and it is conveniently located for trips to Lyme Regis, West Bay and Bridport. There is a local bus service for those wishing to explore the area without using the car. Park Farmhouse is located on the coast road in the heart of the charming historic village of Chideock with a pub and restaurant a couple of doors away. Julia Bradbury’s ‘Best Walks With A View’ includes a walk which encircles Park Farmhouse. A popular farm shop is about a mile away with outside seating with glorious views over the National Trust land and the famous Golden Cap which is the highest point on the south coast!

Steeped in history, Chideock was recorded in the Domesday Book as Cidihoc. In 1379-80, John de Chideock, a manorial lord, built Chideock Castle, just north of the village. During the Middle Ages, ownership passed to the Catholic Arundell family, who used it to provide refuge for priests and loyal followers during subsequent persecution. In 1802 the Arundells were succeeded by the Weld family of Lulworth Castle who in 1810, built Chideock Manor. Park Farmhouse once served the occupants of the manor for many years with cream from the creamery.

The stunning and dramatic Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site covering 96 miles of coastline and is less than a mile away at Seatown. It is also known for its fossil hunting. The beaches of West Bay and Lyme Regis have a traditional feel with gift shops, tea rooms, inns and restaurants. Lyme Regis with The Cobb and harbour was the setting for the filming of The French Lieutenant’s Woman. More recently, Jane Austen’s ‘Persuasion’ and Thomas Hardy’s ‘Far from The Madding Crowd’ were both filmed here. Renowned TV chef Mark Hix has an Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis. There are other pretty villages such as Beer and Branscombe within easy reach or you may wish to visit the numerous stately homes and gardens in the area. Take a trip to the charming cobbled streets of Lyme Regis, 4 miles, with its beach, where you can wander through the galleries and visit the historic Cobb, before testing out one of the many cafés and eateries. Also nearby is the seaside village of Beer and the towns of Seaton and Sidmouth - or why not explore one of the numerous National Trust properties that are easily accessible by car? Children will love exploring the numerous beaches along this coast, or having fun at the many attractions on offer, including Pecorama, Seaton Jurassic Experience and Trams, Dinosaurland Fossil Museum or Crealy Adventure Park, which all make for great days out. Yew Tree Cottage is in a peaceful location of Farnham, ideal for exploring the wealth of activities Dorset has to offer. Situated between Blandford Forum, Ringwood and Salisbury, you are near to the New Forest and the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. Yew Tree Cottage is a large thatched property with wooden beams throughout. The living room has a wood burner for cosy evenings in and there is a well equipped kitchen. There is a wonderful spiral staircase leading from the dining room upstairs or there are more traditional stairs from the living room. The property has very low ceilings, door frames and beams, and due to the quirky nature of the property, to get from the kitchen/diner to the downstairs bathroom you have to either go outside and enter into the bedroom door or go up and then down some internal stairs, therefore it may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. Outside is a spacious garden for you to enjoy.

Farnham is a small village with a pub a short walk away, and Larmer Tree Gardens is only a short drive away, well worth a visit to wander around the beautiful gardens. You can also visit the National Trust sites of Kingston Lacy House, Hod Hill and the White Mill. Dorset Heavy Horse Farm is a wonderful family day out where you can feed the animals or enjoy a ride in a horse drawn carriage. You can visit Moors Valley Park where there are tree top walkways or you can cycle around the woodlands. Also pay a visit to the theatre in Wimborne or the scale model town. Also worth a visit are the Abbey Museum and Gardens at Shaftesbury, or drive to the coast and enjoy the UKs best beach in Bournemouth, or further along to the beautiful Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove.
