Wayside Cottage is set in open countryside on the edge of the quiet village of North Froddingham in the heart of the East Riding of Yorkshire. This dog-friendly property has far reaching views and yet is only 10 miles from the seaside towns of Hornsea and 8 miles from the bustling market town of Driffield. This detached bungalow was built to house farm workers from farms in the area, and has large, bright airy rooms with all accommodation being on the ground floor.

Entering the property from the rear through a boot room, the kitchen/dining room is large with a modern kitchen offering plenty of cupboard space. With windows to two sides, this room offers stunning views across open countryside and is the perfect place to socialise in whilst enjoying family meals. The living room has a wood burner and deep comfortable sofas, one of which provides additional sleeping as a sofa bed for one person. With a double room and a zip and link twin room, this property provides flexible accommodation whether travelling with family or friends. Outside there are gardens to the front and rear, with the front fully enclosed to allow dogs to run free and enjoy the fresh air. The gothic masterpiece of Beverley Minster opened in 1225 and is one of the largest parish churches in the UK, a must visit if you venture into Beverley. The RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs and Spurn Point Observatory offer great birdwatching and with the Tour de Yorkshire passing through nearby villages in early May, this cottage really does offer something for everyone. The Hind House has been refurbished in 2018 to a very good standard and was the original living quarters for the farm works at Cottam Warren Farm. Situated down a long drive and nestled under large beech trees to the edge of this working arable farm, this detached house has wonderful views over the rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds with the market town of Driffield, only 4 miles away. West End Farmhouse stands proud in the peaceful village of Ulrome, close to the beautiful rugged Yorkshire Coast. This detached holiday property is excellent for families, as there is a very large garden for the children to run around in and a little Wendy house for them to play in. There is also a fantastic terraced area, which is ideal for a barbecue, and in addition, a boot room with a stairgate and storage for bikes and boots. For people who enjoy fishing, the owner provides coarse fishing free of charge (fishing licence required) for the fishing pond, which is just along the lane. In 15 minutes, guests can walk from the property down through the village lanes to the beach. It provides an excellent base for those wishing to explore the east coast of Yorkshire and what it has to offer. Close by, visit the famous RSPB Bempton Cliffs, where you can observe puffins and gannets in their natural habitat. There are some fantastic walks and cycle rides along the rugged cliffs of the east coast, some of it being part of the Cleveland Way. Just 8 miles down the coast, visit the hustle and bustle of the traditional seaside resort of Bridlington. With its working fishing port, you can see the catch brought in on the quayside. There is also a large sandy beach and rock pools for the kids to go crabbing. The famous Spa theatre also provides excellent entertainment throughout the year. Guests can take a short land train journey to Sewerby Hall and Gardens, just one of the many stately homes in the area. Burton Agnes and Sledmere are also worth a visit and for those who would like a trip out; you have the fantastic medieval city of York, which is just over an hour away. Located in the 3-house hamlet of North Cattleholmes and accessed via country lanes, The Old Barn is a thoughtfully converted 200-year old stable block, offering comfortable and flexible accommodation for two. The cottage is well-equipped and tastefully furnished.

The location of the cottage feels remote, tranquil and deep in the heart of the countryside, perfect for getting away from it all, yet offering easy access to a range of services and attractions.

This is a perfect base for the wildlife enthusiast as it is located in the middle of Yorkshire’s Wildlife Triangle, with the internationally significant bird sites at Flamborough and Bempton a short drive away. One mile away there is a regionally important wetland habitat with snakes, water voles and otters, and from the property you are likely to get good viewings of hares, owls and kingfishers. One guest logged 25 species from the cottage bench before breakfast! If the wildlife is being elusive our horses and poultry always enjoy attention.

The coastline is diverse with many different coastal landscapes to explore, lots of perfect dog friendly beaches and some classic ‘bucket and spade’ seaside towns. The area boasts some unique stately homes that are managed by their original families, or the East Riding of Yorkshire Council in one case, so are charmingly individual and most rewarding to visit.

For walkers, the Yorkshire Wolds give perfect views at every turn and facilitate a range of walks, from gentle ambles to leg burning route marches. Most walks enable you to include pretty villages and welcoming pubs. This location is a cyclist’s dream. Miles of quiet lanes with the option to pootle on the flat or flog up some serious scarp slopes and everything in-between. Whether on wheels or foot, you always feel like you have the landscape pretty much to yourself.

York, Scarborough and the North York Moors are also easily accessed from here. The market town of Driffield with a wide range of services and some quirky independent shops is a 10-minute drive away. The beautiful medieval town of Beverley is within easy access. It is the loveliest place to shop, lunch and admire what our ancestors could build. The more energetic will enjoy the Westwood pasture – 4 square kilometres of common land where dogs can, and do, go mad.

Closer to home, the nearest pubs (there are three of them), shop and railway station are in the village of Nafferton, approximately 2 miles away. The owners have extensive local knowledge and love to help guests make the most of their stay.

A meandering stream trickles through the stunning landscaped gardens of this 150-year-old detached farmhouse. Nestling in the sleepy hamlet of Barmby Moor (there may be some noise from farm traffic) and set in its own grounds, the property also boasts an outdoor swimming pool heated by solar panels (temperature is dependent on weather) and outdoor 6-seater hot tub. Just under a mile away lies Allerthorpe Common which offers wonderful walks and picnic areas amidst thousands of well-kept acres of land. Burnby Hall Gardens, Burton Agnes Hall and Burton Constable are all close by. Three miles away in Barmby Moor, the Wolds Gliding Club offers trial flights all year round.

Aircraft enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with the Real Aeroplane Museum (Selby, 25 miles) where a magnificent Hawker Hurricane and P-51 Mustang can be seen, and the Yorkshire Air Museum (Elvington, 5 miles) with a superb collection of pre- and post-WWII aircraft. The ancient walled city of York is only 12 miles away, and boasts plenty of attractions for all the family, including the Castle Museum, York Dungeons, National Railway Museum, York Racecourse and the famous Jorvik Viking Centre. The seaside resort of Scarborough boasts two beautiful beaches and was featured in the TV series The Royal. A leisurely stroll along the South Cliff and Esplanade affords panoramic views across to the 12th century castle ruins. Offering excellent shopping, galleries and museums and of course its very own theatre where plays by the well-known author Alan Ayckbourn can be enjoyed. Other places to visit are Peasholme Park and not forgetting the Sea Life Centre. The historic port of Whitby with its maritime connections, 25 miles, is home to the ancient abbey ruins. Further inland are the North Yorkshire Moors with many quaint little villages. Springtime demands a visit to the daffodil fields at Farndale. Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo offers a family day out, and the market town of Pickering is home to the steam railway where a journey through the Esk valley and on into Goathland - better known as Aidensfield in the TV series ’Heartbeat’ will not disappoint. Puffin Cottage is the perfect name for this terraced property which is situated close to the internationally renowned RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs, where thousands of puffins adorn the chalk cliffs accompanied by many other seabirds such as guillemots, kittiwakes and fulmars. The cottage is full of nooks and crannies, and just what you would expect of a crooked old cottage built in the 1800s, and is full of character and charm. The garden is delightful with a lovely seating area, lawn and rockery, but most importantly its enclosed making it ideal for children and pets.

The cottage is right on the border of Bempton and Buckton, and the village of Buckton has a small playground, village shop and a local pub. The resorts of Flamborough Head, Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington are all just a short drive away and you will have a wonderful time exploring these seaside resorts. For those who love the great outdoors, the cycling and walking in the area is some of the best you will find. The rugged coastline has spectacular walks along the clifftops.
