Flowers Barn is a beautifully converted detached Cotswold stone barn, still boasting many original features throughout. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Duntisbourne Rouse and Duntisbourne Leer. The name is taken from the River Dunt which flows through the village, and also from monks at the Abbey of Gloucester who controlled the area in the 13th century. Flowers Barn is adjacent to the owners’ working farm and occupies a beautiful countryside setting.
Built mainly in the time of Charles II, Flowers Barn was once home to aspiring writer and farm owner Eliza in the early 18th century. Eliza came to inherit 420-acres of land off her father, rather than one of her four brothers, and dedicated her life to the farm. She was a very bright and keen horsewoman, who was the first in the area to own a bicycle and a gas cooker. Eliza worked on the farm up until her death in 1901.
This is a perfect place to stay when in the Cotswolds, being just a 10-minute drive from Roman Cirencester and 20 minutes’ drive from Cheltenham and its famous horse racing festival in March each year. There are plenty of walks and cycle routes for active guests, and this is a very central position from which to visit the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds, including Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury, Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Campden. Both Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon are also a convenient drive away.

The Old Laundry (ref UK12136) consists of a spacious open plan living space with a wood burner, which keeps the space cosy and welcoming in the winter. Patio doors lead off the living area to a patio and private garden space, which is ideal for spending time outside in the summer months. Upstairs you have two, well-proportioned and well-equipped double bedrooms, one with the ability to be set up as a twin room.

The Chicken Coop (UK12137) is all on one level and has been finished to a high standard, and is the perfect getaway to kick back and relax in. You enter the property through a small porch and are instantly met by a large spacious kitchen area which is modern and fully equipped. The living area has a lovely wood burner which gives a glowing warmth to the property in the winter months. Both bedrooms are fitted with TV’s and offer a high level of comfort, and there is also a wet room giving easier access to facilities. Outside, there is a very large garden that is shared with one other property, but there is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. There is also an interconnecting door that connects to The Old Granary, perfect for large groups.

The property is nestled in the village of Hewelsfield and there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. This border territory is marked by stunning scenery and has brooding castles at Chepstow and Raglan. Explore the market towns of Abergavenny and Monmouth, or enjoy excellent walking in the Forest of Dean and along the riverbank. Fishing, horse riding, cycling and canoeing are readily available. With all your yummy produce, why not pack up a picnic and head to Coaley Peak with its fabulous viewpoint looking out across the Severn Vale and out to Wales. Lords Cottage has been redecorated to a high standard in 2022, located in the town of Coleford in the heart of the Forest of Dean it is just a couple of miles from the forest. There are fabulous walks within the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean which boasts some stunning scenery. This is a perfect base from which to visit nearby family attractions which include Clearwell Caves, The Secret Forest, Puzzlewood, Perrygrove Steam Railway, a sculpture trail, and a railway museum. The Forest of Dean has always been a huge draw for cyclists (and the cottage has a lockable dry garage to store bikes) and walkers. Areas within easy reach include Beechenhurst and Mallards Pike.
Symonds Yat is a popular destination for ornithologists due to the presence of nesting peregrine falcons. The Wye Valley also offers a variety of river-based activities such as canoeing and fishing. A wide variety of shops, restaurants and pubs within a 5-minute walk. The town of Monmouth is a short drive from the property and has some great boutique shops and not to mention Monmouth Castle and the Monnow Bridge!
