There’s an outstanding restaurant and wet fish counter at Severn Wye smokery, Chaxhill (10-minute drive). Also, a private chef can be arranged from Harts Barn cookery school if required. It is also close to the International Centre for birds of prey and the Three Choirs Vineyard nearby for a spot of bird watching followed by some wine tasting. Within easy reach of the picturesque Wye Valley, including Tintern Abbey and Symonds Yat. Adrenalin junkies are well catered for too, in Gloucester you have the dry ski slope for a day of boarding or tobogganing, off road cycling and treetop rope adventures to be found within the Forest of Dean. Paddle boarding is a firm favourite and available at Gloucester Docks and the picturesque Symonds Yat on the Wye River.

Nearby is Gatcombe Park, the home of the Princess Royal. There are some lovely walks around the village and surrounding beautiful countryside. Tetbury is just 3 miles away, a thriving market town with elegant buildings and 17th-century market hall. As well as offering a unique retail experience with many craft shops, it is also a major centre for antiques. Malmesbury, 8 miles, is the oldest borough in England with its Norman Abbey and the beautiful Abbey House Gardens. The Roman city of Cirencester is 12 miles away, and there are many Roman remains in the surrounding area, including several Roman villas near the villages of Chedworth and Withington. The famous Cheltenham racecourse is 20 miles away and the magnificent city of Bath, famous for its hot springs, is 26 miles.
