Walnut Tree Cottage is a typical 16th century, English, timber-framed, thatched holiday cottage in the middle of the Medieval village of Brampton Bryan. With its beautiful garden and surroundings, standing detached, it is an ideal retreat for those who wish to relax and enjoy quiet seclusion, stunning walks in the Welsh Border countryside and friendly local pubs. Brampton Bryan has an ancient park which rises on to Harley’s Mountain and a salmon river just 5 minutes walk from the house. It is situated in a truly magical and unspoiled corner of England. The market towns of Ross-on-Wye, 5 miles, and Ledbury, 12 miles away, while the historic cathedral cities of Hereford and Gloucester are 23 miles. The Malvern Hills, Brecon Beacons, Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds are within easy reach, making it an ideal base for those interested in climbing, walking and touring holidays. The Old Kennels Farm is a small, friendly, family-run farm of 24 acres, where tasty apples are grown in the on-site orchard, and each autumn they are harvested to make cider that is transported to some of the most prestigious venues in London and various outlets around the country. The holiday cottages (refs UK41822, UKC1766, UKC1767, UKC1768, UKC1769 and UKC1770) are conversions of old farm buildings that are at the top end of the site and are all named after old varieties of cider apples.
The farm is perfectly positioned on the outskirts of Ledbury in picturesque Herefordshire. Ledbury is a pretty, well-kept town in the east of the county, with fantastic examples of timber framed buildings, including the market hall dating back to the 17th century. Explore the town’s cobbled streets, which in summer are adorned with the most beautiful hanging baskets, and which have won ’Britain in Bloom’ competitions. Half a mile easy walk will take you into the town centre, where you will find public houses and restaurants, a small leisure centre, swimming pool and a gymnasium. There is also a variety of small individual shops and two larger supermarkets.
Local attractions include Eastnor Castle, a deer park, exhilarating Landrover experiences, off roading, golf, balloon flights, family pottery sessions at Eastnor Pottery, Hellens Manor, Newent Heritage Centre and The International Centre for Birds of Prey. Visit Westons, where you can experience a shire horse dray ride, sample Westons Cider on the mill tour or simply wander through the courtyard garden. The town of Hereford is 15 miles away with its cathedral to explore, which is also the location for the famous Mappa Mundi and Chained Library exhibition. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants. The historic town of Brecon is 22 miles from the property and has an array of coffee shops, art galleries, and much more; the regimental museum is also worth a visit. Those in search of adventure can head to Pen Y Fan and take in the breathtaking views of the rolling countryside.
Cromwell House has an open plan living space; the living area has a cosy open fire you can curl up in front of and watch a film or sport on the Smart TV, which offers Sky and Netflix. Patio doors lead out onto the enclosed lawned garden from where you can admire views of the rolling hills of Hay Bluff whilst sitting in the egg chair! On the first floor is an office space with a Mac computer, and two bedrooms (one kingsize and one double), each with fitted wardrobes and views over Hay Bluff. The property is set on the owner’s farmland and overlooks the rolling hills of Herefordshire, it is just a short distance from Hereford, Hay-on-Wye, Ross-on-Wye, Abergavenny, and Monmouth, offering guests plenty of choice when it comes to things to do in the area. All these locations offer an array of bars, shops, and restaurants for guests to enjoy during day trips.
This part of Herefordshire offers an excellent selection of things to see and do including visiting both Skenfrith Castle and Goodrich Castle which are both stunning sites of historical interest. For the more adventurous guests, why not take a canoe down the Wye or take a walk up any one of the surrounding hills including The Skirrid and Symonds Yat Rock. The farmhouse is also close to 200 acres of Common land which provides ideal walking with magnificent views of the Severn counties.
